I don't normally ask for prayers, but my family can use all you can spare.

Tuesday my father went in for surgery to clear blocked arteries to prevent another stroke. I spent the day at the hospital with my mother, even though she said it was routine, and I shouldn't have taken the day off from work.

Instead of preventing the stroke, the surgery actually brought one on. My father now is completely paralyzed on his right side, and has not been able to speak.

My mother is beside herself, since she's the one who convinced him to have this surgery...now she's spending her 2nd night alone since they were married over 50 years ago.

Her doctor has informed her today that his opinion is that he will not be recovering, and that she should look into nursing home options.

I'm at a loss. :( Any suggestions, thoughts, and especially prayers are most appreciated.

Prayers said, this early the recovery is probably hard to predict. Hopefully he'll prove the drs wrong.

Sending lots of good thoughts and prayers for your dad, and your family, too.

Karen

Many prayers coming your way.

Instead of a nursing home, are there any brain injury rehabs in your area? (I'm sure there must be)
You or your mom should speak with your dad's discharge planner very soon and ask. If there are any, have them come in to evaluate him when he's stable and ready for D/C.

Best of luck, my friend.

Oh Im so very sorry!

Your family is in my prayers!

I'm so sorry :( I will keep your father in my prayers. {{{HUGS}}}

praying for your family, just take it one day at a time :(

I hope the doctor is wrong. I just said a prayer for him and your family.

Prayers being said.

I see you are from Toms River, please let me know if I can be of any help with doctors or homes, as I work in KMC and my father has been a health professional in the area for over 20 years.

Sorry to hear that, Cookie. My very best along with prayers are with your dad, you and family. :hug: Please let us know how he does.

So sorry to hear this news Gail. I will say a prayer for your dad and mom. And for you as well. You just never know what the outcome of surgery will be. I know that my surgeon put me on blood thinners for 21 days after operating on my ankle to make sure that I don't end up having a stroke. Prayers for healing for your father.

I am so sorry to hear of your father's stroke. I will keep him, your mom, yourself, and your whole family in my prayers. {{{HUGS}}}

Gail, I feel so bad for you all. All things are possible with prayer and doctors, even though good intentioned, have no way to know for sure how the body will heal. Don't give up hope. I will keep you all in my prayers.
