My Dad got a hip replacement on May 23. He has been doing amazingly well and is in very little pain, but yesterday he started to feel ill. Mom took him to the doctor today and he has an infection and is in the hospital for 4-5 days--actually longer than the original time after the operation. They find out tomorrow if they will have to take the replacement out and redo the operation. He is 76. He isn't worried, but I am (and I am going to be out of town tomorrow and 1/2 of Sunday). So I would appreciate any prayers and/or PD for him. Thanks.

Certainly, namesake. My dad had a hip replacement at exactly the same age! Prayers the infection is caught and gotten rid of and may your Dad enjoy Father's Day with NO PAIN!

God bless,

Robinrs

Thanks all--just a brief update. I misunderstood what happens if the hip has to be removed. I thought they would clean it off and pop another one in. No, he will be laid up, probably requiring nursing care, for 4-6 months before the new one can go in! He's a very vital guy and this would be hard on him--not to mention that medicare only covers 6-10 weeks of nursing care. I know one of their biggest fears is running through all of their savings for something like this. So keep praying that the infection was caught early enough and we won't have to go to that extreme! It would be hard on him and also hard on my mom--she asked me to fill her car up with gas tonight after the recital, and dad said he's showed her how 4 or 5 times, but she still doesn't want to do it herself.

Prayers that all goes well for your Dad !!!

Prayers said, Robin.

My sis had a hip replacement in Feb and later had a sepsis infection. Thankfully, she didn't have to be readmitted & it was treated with anti-biotics, so I know what a worry infection after surgery is like.

Another update...talked to my mom after the dance recital. She said the infectious disease specialist was in and said it looks so far like it was caught in time, so they can irrigate it (BLECK) and then he can keep the prosthesis. It is a staph infection, which leads me to believe it was from the hospital--he's been out 2 weeks, but where else would he get it right at the surgery site? Who knows. But still hoping and praying the infection is treatable and the prosthesis can be kept.

add our prayers to the list, i know those staph infections can get nasty

How scary! I'm glad that he's on the mend and I'll keep him in my thoughts. My mom has dual hip replacements and has had to have some fine tuning on one side, so I know how scary it can be.

Sorry he has to go thru this. Prayers being said!

Uuggh...those pesky infections....
Of course sending prayers for your dad Robin.
