Urgent prayers and pixie dust and good thoughts are needed for my mom, Melanie (Ugadog99). She was ill beginning around last Thursday with mild cold symptoms which progressed. By Monday she was not able to eat or drink much and wasn't sleeping much due to severe coughing. By Tuesday she was so weak she could barely move and was having breathing difficulties so I took her to the ER.
She was admitted with a diagnosis of bilateral pneumonia and told she would only be inpatient a few days. Early Wednesday she was moved to ICU and then intubated right before lunch. Wednesday mid-afternoon I went up to visit with my uncle and the nurses and doctor told us it was just bad pneumonia and that she would be off the vent within a few days and everything seemed okay.
Thursday morning at 4:36 am the nurse called me and said her oxygen levels had dropped significantly and she was critical. When we got there there were 6 nurses in her room and her doctor showed us her chest x-rays and ct scans and explained she had developed Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome, was retaining fluid and her kidneys were shutting down, so she began receiving dialysis.
She is still extremely ill and on the vent with pretty major support, is on 5 antibiotics and heavily sedated. Right now all of the blood tests for specific bacteria/etc have come back negative.
