Prayers needed for my mom (Ugadog99)

How scary, glad to hear your dear Mom is showing some improvement. Hugs, positive thoughts, and healing prayers, for her full recovery. Prayers for you too! Godspeed

Yes. And this is what is frustrating her care team because so far every thing they've tested her for has come back negative (flu, lupus, TB, etc). She's on 5 antibiotics and they are having to just treat it blindly basically.

But positive update this morning, they were able to turn down her o2 support from the vent down to 70% and her PEEP setting is now at 18 which is the lowest it's been and she's tolerating it well.

Ooh that PEEP is high. Continued prayers for weaning of the.ventilator

glad to read there is some good news.....continued good wishes for a full recovery

Have seen your mom around here for so many years, always smile when i see her Mickey in her signature. Hoping she is well and home soon, keypooh (have seen you for many years also). You mom and all your family are in my prayers.'s Wishing mom the best.

Dan,

Yeah, we are old-timers.

And to the person that said the PEEP is high, she was 20 from Wednesday-Yesterday, so her RT was happy with the 18. They got her all the way down to 16 PEEP and 60% O2 but then her nurse had to suction her and she desatted into the mid 80s so they bumped her back up to 70% O2 and 18 PEEP.

I'm sorry to hear that your Mom is so sick. If I recall, we love in the same neck of the woods-I'm below Carrollton and she's up Hwy 34 (don't want to be too specific!). My Dad just spent 2 weeks in the hospital, a week of it in ICU with a staph infection so I can empathize with what you are going through right now. Don't forget to take care of yourself too-leave the hospital to take a walk or just to get away for a little bit for your own sanity. I'll keep you both in my prayers. Wishing her a quick recovery :grouphug::grouphug:

Prayers going out to her and the rest of your family. Take care of yourself and I hope she recovers quickly.

Ugh...my good friend is going through a somewhat similar ordeal as your mom. She is spending night #13 in the ICU with bilateral pneumonia with no hx of asthma or other respiratory issues. She started out with typical cold/cough, dx with bronchitis on first Dr. visit, tx with oral antibiotics but instead of getting better deteriorated into the pneumonia. No ARDS, but has her own complications (blood clot in arm and pulm. embolism) creating setbacks. We're finally at a point where we feel we can see sustained improvement but still no idea when she'll be getting out of the ICU, let alone out of the hospital. Thank goodness for amazing ICU nurses.

We'll add your mom to our prayers.

Wow. That's crazy. I hope my mom doesn't have to be in ICU as long as that. That sounds so similar. Is your friend on the ventilator too?

Settings on the vent are now at 65% O2 and 16 PEEP. Hoping that things keep steadily improving.

Prayers for your Mom. Hope she continues to improve!!:goodvibes

continued thoughts and prayers for your Mom's recovery and your family during this stressful time Remember to take care of yourself, sometimes forgotten

They had her on a bi-pap or a heated hi-flow via nasal cannula at or above 70% O2 for most of the past 2 weeks. Fortunately, she seems to have turned the corner and yesterday the O2 was dropped to 40/50 and today they were able to switch out the heated hi-flow for the regular room O2 at 8L/minute via nasal cannula without her O2 sats dropping. Tomorrow they'll switch her to the PCU if a room is available.

It was definitely scary at first and the progress has been slow but once she got going, the improvement has seemed to progress pretty quickly. Barring any new complications or setbacks, my friend might even be released to complete her recovery at home before the end of the week.

Hopefully your mom is through the worst of it now and will just continue to improve, even if it might seem to be a maddeningly slow process. She is blessed to have a daughter like you to be her support through all of this. Just be sure to take care of yourself because otherwise you'll be no use to her if you make yourself ill. I know your schedule must be crazy but take the time to eat healthy meals and get sufficient sleep if you can. That will really help you which will, in turn, help your mom.

Prayers for your mom. My mom went through the same kind of thing with Bacterial pneumonia. It is definitely hard.
