Prayers/good thoughts for my dad?

My dad has had some odd tingling/numbness on one side for a couple of weeks now, and went back to his neurologist this morning for MRI's/MRA's. His doctor is very concerned, and said that based on the info they got they think he has had 3 small strokes or TIA's. He goes back Friday for a Doppler ultrasound and possibly some other tests. Their biggest concern now is trying to prevent a big stroke, since TIA's are usually a precursor of that.

Some of you probably know my dad by his guide dog, Newley -- a frequent WDW visitor. In fact, small world that it is, it was a DIS'er who actually trained Newley when he was a puppy. Any prayers and/or good thoughts anyone can send Dad's way would be very much appreciated!!

If it does turn out that he's at high risk for a full-blown stroke, keep in mind that there are medications he can take to greatly reduce the risk..

They're going to likely start him on Plavix, and adjust his aspirin regimen. It's always tough putting him on a new med, though, because it usually causes his other meds for diabetes and such to go screwy. His kidney function is already diminished, so it's tricky.

to you and prayers for your dad. We have been in the same boat ( and then some ) with my Dad since Feb....I sure know where you are coming from! Are you nearby to your dad? I am 1300+ miles from mine and it is terribly difficult to obtain medical info etc as quickly as I would like.

If it helps,( we are dealing with FIL health issues as well), during an MRI to rule out one thing, he too was diagnosed as having had 3 mini strokes! Not due ot that but other issues he had surgery and was in rehab/assisted living for about 5 weeks, but now is home doing better each day with home care etc.
Positive attitude is huge, sending good thoughts your way!

I think it was just after the trip when that photo was taken, and I had posted about it. She replied and asked me where my dad had gotten his guide dog, because she raises them as puppies before the guide dog school takes over, and had a yellow lab puppy named Newley. Turns out it was the same dog.

Big hugs to you and your family, too! I'm lucky in that my dad is only about 45 minutes away, and we talk pretty much every day. He definitely has positive attitude in spades, and I know that helps a great deal in health issues.

Now they've decided to do a nuclear stress test tomorrow morning along with the other stuff. They haven't wanted to do that test, because his kidney function is already so messed up, but I guess now they feel the importance of the findings outweigh the risk.
