Prayers/good thoughts for my dad?

Just now seeing this. Thoughts and prayers definitely going out to you, your dad and family.

Love the picture of your dad and Newley (and Pluto!) and the story of finding out that a fellow DISer trained him. :goodvibes

Hi Aprille! We thought it was pretty cool that Newley had a DIS-related start. :thumbsup2

Hey, we need to pull together some sort of DIS meet down here pretty soon... it has been years since there has been one! Unless I somehow missed one. I think I'll try and talk Dad and Newley into going to the next one. :goodvibes

My prayers to your dad - I hope everything is ok!

Popping on over here from the funneh kitteh thread to let you know I'm keeping your dad and your family in my prayers.

(Oh, and Newley is so cute.)

Thanks, y'all! :grouphug:

I hope they're able to get him the results of everything soon. He's there right now for all the tests. I'll definitely update when I know something!

This might sounds very strange but...has your dad been tested for Lyme Disease? I ask because my BIL started having tingling numbness on one side, they thought he was having a heart attack. Initial tests were negative, they sent him home, continued testing and were finding nothing wrong. The numbness/tingling continued and then spread to his tongue. When it got worse at work one day they took him to the ER...and there someone realized to look for Lyme and when they checked his body they found the bulls-eye. It seemed so odd to me, but that's what it was.

In any case, I hope they find out what's wrong with him soon and he will stay in my prayers...:goodvibes

Gosh, it's been ages since we had a Houston area DIS meet that I know of anyway. Last one I remember was at Kemah Boardwalk at the Aquarium (4 or 5 years ago maybe???). Rajah (Tammi) use to organize those. I haven't seen her around for awhile but then I don't really frequent the DIS as much as I use to (except for the LOLcatz thread ;)). Would love to meet your dad and Newley.

Sending prayers and good thoughts out to your dad (and you!) this morning.

That's very interesting... I'll have to ask him. But from what he told me yesterday, the evidence from the MRI's/MRA's showed the doctors that he had had 3 small strokes. (What tells them that, I have no idea!) His diabetes makes him more prone to that sort of thing anyway. We're just hoping they're able to intervene and prevent a big stroke. I'll have to ask him about the Lyme disease thing, though!

Yeah, the Kemah one was the last one we went to! I haven't seen Tammi post in years -- I wonder where she went off to. Well, after this semester is FINALLY over, I think I'm going to try and pull together a meet. We're way overdue. :thumbsup2

Hey, Gina! Bumping this up for an update. How's your dad?

Hi Aprille! Thanks for asking about Dad. I keep meaning to update this, but have been in the midst of finals. I don't have any huge updates, as it is. Dad went to the cardiologist last week, and then again Monday. They decided the Plavix wasn't going to be agressive enough, so they put him on Coumadin. Reading drug warning labels is scary enough, but the anecdotal stories are worse. From what I've heard, you can get into a dire situation from something like a paper cut. They told him to "be careful shaving" -- Hello, it's a blind man shaving! He cuts himself all the time! So needless to say, we're a bit worried about that. BUT, if it prevents a major stroke, then that's obviously a good thing.

He heard back from the neurologist yesterday, and they said he definitely did have 3 TIA's at some fairly recent point. But both doctors said the scans on his carotids were clear, and his heart is not enlarged or anything like that. He is having an irregular heartbeat, but it didn't sound like they were too concerned at this point about that.

So really they are just hoping the Coumadin will do the trick, without causing too many other problems. He has to go in for bloodwork 3 times a week until they tweak the dosage to where it needs to be.

Thanks so much, again, for everyone's thoughts and prayers... It's so nerve-wracking when there isn't a "here, this will definitely fix this problem" kind of solution to something. There's really no way of measuring the efficacy of the Coumadin other than if he doesn't have a major stroke, hopefully it was the drug that prevented it. Ugh.

I'm done with finals now, so I'll definitely update this if anything else comes up. Thanks again!! :grouphug:

I will keep your dad and your family in my prayers.

Yes, Coumadin can be a bit scary so close screening is a must. Maybe your dad should grow a beard. ;)

It all sounds like pretty good news. Will definitely keep the prayers going.

Good luck with the finals and thanks for the update. :)
