Dan sounds like such a great guy! Please give him our best wishes for a full and speedy recovery! It's so hard for guys to be patient and give themselves the time necessary to heal. I know he's glad to have you there.
Dan saw the doctor today. They wrapped him up better than the ER people did. He will start therapy on Wednesday where they start to take the dead skin off. I understand it is painful.
Thank goodness he had his safety glasses on. The rest of his face is burned but not around his eyes.
Dan has a long road of recovery but hopefully it will be smooth. He has a great attitude and I hope he can keep it during the days ahead. He is used to being active and this is tough on him.
If this doesn't make a case for safety glasses, I don't know what will. I'm glad to hear that he is strong and will be able to recover. By you posting this message, perhaps you will inspire someone to put those safety glasses on.
I am glad to hear that Dan is doing well! I am a former burn nurse, now SAHM. The 1st debridement will probably be the worst for him. Especially since 2nd degree burns are the most painful type. Encourage him to follow any directions regarding medicating for pain prior to the dressing changes. Prayers and Pixie dust for him as he continues to heal!
He had the first debridement today. Yes he is in a lot of pain right now. He has a pretty high tolerance for pain but this is really something.
I am proud of the fact that my son knows the right thing to do is use safety glasses. It could have been so much worse if the hot coolant had gotten in his eyes.
He is being tough but he has a long road ahead of him.
I just saw this thread. Best wishes that your son's recovery go as smoothly as possible.
My older son has been a mechanic for over 5 years now and I still worry about him being injured. He's needed a few stitches for work-related injuries, but so far nothing like the burns your son suffered. It's amazing how quickly something can go so badly wrong. I'm so glad your son was wearing his safety goggles. I hope the pain from his burns goes away soon and that he can recover quickly.
I think I'll remind my son how much I love him and also remind him to wear his goggles (he'll roll his eyes but understand it's a Mom thing).
I am sorry, I'm just seeing your thread and would like to offer prayers for Dan's recovery. Poor boy, even a small burn is horrible and I can imagine the pain he's in. Glad you could visit and sending prayers for a speedy and complete recovery.
Thank you everyone for your kind thoughts and prayers.
Dan went this morning and they took a lot of the burned skin off his arm. He said it was quite painful. He has been resting all day from it. He sees the doctor again on Friday where they will do the procedure on his chest. The pain meds they are giving him really aren't helping. I know he is tough but he is hurting.
My son is always very careful when working on cars and trucks and this freak accident has shaken up a lot of people where he works.
