Potty Training help?

RUSS WENT PEEPEE ON THE POTTY!!

Just once. So far. We had unders on for an hour in the morning, about an hour before nap, and then for two hours tonight. He kept running to the bathroom every other minute tonight, mostly to change unders. (It's not a fashion show!) I took away the box so he can only have one pair. Then we would sit on the potty for ten seconds, get off and play some more, then back to the potty two minutes later. So I found a sand timer and told him he had to sit on the potty until the sand ran out. Finally, right before yogurt, he was mostly successful! He peed on the floor and his unders too, but he did get some into the potty. So he's really quite happy. And so is Mommy.

We seem to have good days and bad days here. Yesterday was a great day, with only one accident but at the same time a poop in the toilet. Today was full of accidents - by the laundry door, outside the garage, in the den - but then he pee'd in his little toilet before bathtime. We cheer :cheer2: for any success we get. And whenever DS has an accident we remind him that he's supposed to go on the toilet not in his pants.

It just gets so frustrating when you know they know what to do because they've done it before and yet they don't. Well tomorrow is another day, maybe an accident-free day.

I feel for you. I was so bummed when DS had his accident...I thought he had more bladder control, but I guess not yet. Like you said, start each day fresh! :thumbsup2

CONGRATULATIONS! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Seriously, isn't it the best feeling when they're successful. Who knew 3 years ago that I would get so excited about bathroom behaviors...:rotfl2:

Hope everything keeps going well for you! :)

Hello, potty traing comrades. Just wanted to wish you all a Happy Easter, and leave updates to the side for today. Good luck and I hope you all have fun with your families. :)

Happy Easter to all! I too am in the midst of potty-training our DS who just turned 3 in February. We have had lots of ups and downs! Started using pullups months ago, but I think that was a big mistake!!! He uses the bathroom most of the time when asked to go, but rarely says he's got to go himself. Yesterday was the first day of spring break for us so I decided to go cold turkey and put the quilted training pants on him. Whoo Hoo! He only had one accident at my brother-in-law's house!!!:cool1: I'm hoping that the rest of the week goes as well! We have promised him Mickey Mouse and Batman underwear if he can go without wetting his training pants. We are going to WDW for week beginning Father's Day and I hope we will be completely trained by then-at least down to just wearing a pull-up at night!:thumbsup2 If anyone has any more pixie dust:wizard: please send some my way just in case!!!!!
BEST OF LUCK TO ALL THE POTTY-TRAINING DIS FAMILIES EVERYWHERE!!!:cheer2:

Happy Easter everyone. Here's wishing you all a nice "dry" day. ;)

Though we don't celebrate Easter, we're going out to brunch in a little while with a friend who does. We're even going to be seeing the Easter Bunny. I explained to DS that he's big just like Mickey Mouse and Tigger that we saw at WDW.

TarzansKat, I just had to tell you, I used your idea of keeping Diego dry with DS yesterday and it worked. The only reason he had to change in the middle of the day is that while sitting on the toilet, let's just say something popped out and sprayed outside. DS was so proud of himself for having an accident-free day.

Wow! I never imagined when I started this thread that I would get so much helpful advice or that I would even be able to help someone else. :lovestruc

Now only if this theory about not dirtying Diego would work for my DS. The past two days, he has pooped in his underwear. :scared1: I am at my wit's end. Today was better with no pee accidents, but I feel completely wiped. He's also going through a "mama" phase which means, "mama" does everything, even when DH is home. If not, he screams bloody murder. I know someday I'll be wishing myself back to this time when all my little boy wanted was me, but right now, although I am grateful for the lovely snuggles, it can be exhausting! I think it was a previous poster who said when she was potty training one night her DH came home to find her completely wiped out...right now, that would be me.:scared:

Sorry , Not sure if I am repeating.

My 2 1/2 year old DS is completely trained and has been for a while, but he still does not like to leave what he is doing. If I know that it has been a while and he probably needs to go, I will ask. When he of course says "no, I don't have to" I say ok, then I am going and I'm gonna be first. This immediately makes him say , "No, I'm going first" and he rushes to the potty.

Just another idea!

I have broken down and started using M&Ms as a reward. We have the mini ones, and he gets two every time he goes on the potty. DH actually started it and it has been working. However, today, we have had no poops yet, so we'll have to see how that goes....

However, no pee accidents yesterady or today yet...it's still early though...:lmao:

I am at my wit's end!:confused3

DS has had two accidents. He's not telling me either, and they've been right after "trying to go." I really don't know what to do. I know my mom will not be thrilled with all these messes, and I go back to work on Wednesday. I would hate to revert back to pull-ups, but I don't know what else today. He does not seem at all to be recognizing when he needs to go. Twice he's told me he's had to, and then nothing. A few times, I've caught him making his "poopy" face, which is my cue. I've basically forced him to go sit on the potty and he refuses to poop. He cries, fusses, will not do it. Help me...somebody...anybody....ugh! :scared:

Tarzankats,
Thanks for the pixie dust!!! Only had 1 accident yesterday as well! :cool1: Not bad for the first 2 days!!! So far, so good today too! The pixie dust is working!
Hope everyone has a super day!!!!:yay:

PS I love your quote from Pirates!!! I'm a big fan of Captain Jack myself!!! When I'm cleaning or folding clothes I'll put in the first Pirates movie-it's the best!!! I never grow tired of watching it!!! pirate:

I am pirate obsessed. When DH and I go to MNSSHP, we dress as Captain Jack and Elizabeth. I purchased my costume hand-made on Ebay, part of DH's on Ebay, and the rest DH made himself. We look quite the couple.

I love that quote, too. It helps to remind me of what the important things in life really are, even if they may drive me crazy sometimes!

I feel your pain. You have toughed it out longer than I have when I have tried the underwear thing with DS. I'm waiting for that miraculous day when DS just decides to train himself! I'm a total chicken when it comes to this potty stuff! I am :worship: to you for sticking with it all weekend! I hope he figures it out soon, for your sake. I don't think my DS has a CLUE when he actually has to "go" yet.

Best advice I got from my mom was, "don't worry (insert behavior your are trying to modify here) won't happen when he's walking down the aisle." It was her way of reminding me that parenting is a process not an event!

Sending lots of pixie dust to all who are going through the training and those who are training the little ones!

Thank you for helping me to remember that someday, I will be laughing about all of this.

Did you actually end up going back to pull ups? I'm just wondering what my DS reaction would be if I took away his "diegos," I'm afraid it could end up being really negative. Unfortunately, Diego is on the brand of pull-ups we use anyway, unless I upgrade to feel and learn, which I think has Spiderman. I am just at a total loss. Thanks for your support.

I called the doc's office and the nurse recommended making DS totally responsible for his potty training. Don't take him, make him do everything on his own, clean up his own messes, change his own clothes, everything by himself....it's a good theory, and I think a PP employed this, but I just don't see him doing it, and I don't see my mom handling that at all. I love her, but this is just out of her realm of normal, my sister and I were apparently pretty easy on the whole potty thing. However, when we were there for our check-up, doc said I could try potty training during my five days off and if it didn't work he obviously was not ready and to wait until the summer (July DH and I will be off together for a week) to really train him. I just feel like that's cutting it so close to preschool, which I'm having a really hard time sending him to anyway. I know he needs the socialization, but I just feel wrong about it, like it's too soon. Yikes...side rant.:rolleyes1

Getting back on track...:thumbsup2

I know if I put him back in pull ups, I wouldn't give up, I'd still continue asking him to go and attempting to get him to poop and pee on the potty. And you know what, I'll be brave and admit it. I hate cleaning up the mess! I know it's a life thing but...

 I almost gave up a few times last week. When you're constantly cleaning up the floor and helping them change out of wet/dirty clothes and doing laundry, it just seems easier to go back to diapers. We had a few days of accident only days and I just wanted to scream and rip my hair out. DH happened to be telling all this to a dear friend of his that suggested we stop and wait a few months to try again. But we perservered and now it seems DS has finally gotten "it". Something just seemed to click and now DS either tells us when he has to go or just goes on his own - pee only at this point. And the last couple of days he hasn't fought me when I said he needs to try before we get into the car.

We've now had 3 days in a row that have been pee accident-free. He did have a bit of a poop accident today at school, but if I understood his teacher correctly they were outside playing and he indicated he had to go but didn't make it to the bathroom in time. Still, he came home in the same jeans he wore to school this morning.

A funny little story from this morning...
Today was the first day back to school after spring break. As always on the way in I reminded DS that the first thing he needs to do in the classroom is wash his hands. (An NAEYC requirement) Before he got to the sink he stopped and told his teacher his "p nis says to go pee." She totally did a double take not sure she heard right. The look on her face was priceless, but I explained that we've been working with DS to listen to his body when it has to pee or poop.

Thanks for your words of encouragement. I know that my clock is running down since I'll be going to work tomorrow. My mom has even suggested putting him back in pull ups and training him that way, and then making the switch to underwear. Yesterday in the afternoon, I caved and put a pull up on him. I was just so exhausted. I know it was bad, but I didn't know what else to do. Uh oh...I hear him waking up! More later! :)

We trained dd when she was 3. It wasnt easy or fun lol but man was i glad that i didn't need to buy any more diapers! no good for the planet! lol that money went into are disney account lol!

We let her go on her schedule. She picked undies to wear and we had potty goodies! we kept a large container near the bathroom and filled it with stickers and treats everytime she went she got a treat! then we went to every 3 times she went she got a treat till she stopped asking for them!

I think the key to potty training is doing it when mommy and child is ready otherwise its gonna be alot of power struggles! lol
