Potential Tropical Storm for the 4th

Don't let a tropical storm ruin your fun at Disneyworld, my family and I were there in 2008 when Fay was going full force. We did not allow it to be Captain Buzzkill and ruin our time there. Yes, it may cause temporary closures of outdoor attractions, but Disney has plenty to do indoors.

No way will we let it ruin our trip!!! I just hope we get there!!!

Ah, hurricane season. That time of year when those of us from the gulf states wonder why people on the boards are all concerned about tropical depressions and tropical storms.

As a "public service," most tropical storms are mostly rain, so it's not that much different from a day of solid thunderstorms (which is also not unusual in the south). Now, I'll be the first to admit that I don't like walking around in a heavy rain, especially at WDW, where that can shut down outdoor rides. But at least you'll be wet at Disney World. Just think of it as combining a water park with the theme parks.

This isn't a jab at OP. Really, if you want to see unneeded worry, you need to watch the run on groceries in the South when there's supposed to be a dusting of snow.

There's a big difference between already being there and getting to Disney. Tropical weather and the threat of it can certainly disrupt travel which is incredibly annoying. Not to mention that for folks not used to the weather, it's something else to plan and pack for. So it certainly does affect people and should be something to keep an eye on so you can be prepared to be packed correctly and be ready for travel disruptions.

Hope everyone makes it safely down to Disney. And don't let the rain get you down. My sister and I went to wdw in October of 2011, we had a solid day of light to heavy rain. Let me say I was very depressed because in all my trips I had never had a full day of rain. I spent a good part of the morning doing laundry and watching the weather channel (which made it worse) my sister finally said, let's just go to mk and make the best of it. We put on our ponchos and grabbed an umbrella. It ended up being a great day even though the rain didn't let up. Most of the rides are indoors anyway with almost no lines at all. Out of all the days iv been to Disney, that day is the most memorable (in a good way):)

I've never even considered the travel aspects of it, especially since we usually drive. I can really understand the concern over flights being cancelled

I'll just reiterate this. I'd expect the rain to gradually decrease in/near WDW as the week progresses with most of the rain coming in today, tomorrow, and a bit into Thursday (Thursday's pushing it a bit), but beyond that, this storm will hopefully be up the coast. Any rain Fourth of July-ers get will probably be from typical Florida PM weather patterns. Even tomorrow, this storm doesn't seem to be getting as close as many initially thought, so I really wouldn't panic too much about the weather and travel and just enjoy your trip down here. You'll be fine!

I have my disposable ponchos packed and am heading out the day after tomorrow! I will have a great trip rain or no rain. I see rain as nature's way of rewarding those who don't mind getting drenched with a slightly less crowded park.

So if you see a crazy out in the rain in a neon green poncho, that will be me, having a ball. :)

Just a quick public service announcement, with a disclaimer: I am a total weather geek. Danger aside, I love watching storms.

We were at WDW in 2008, when TS Faye made an appearance. As the storm approached, I watched the weather, concerned that it would impact our return flight.

The warnings and watches are posted by county. I'm from NY... I have no idea what's where in FL. And the storm wasn't on the radar when we left NY a week before.

Now, I always bring a map of FL by county. It's one piece of paper. But it would make it easier to know what's going on should a storm approach. ( and of course, if you happen to have a charged I phone, you don't even. Need to print it up )

WDW is on the border of Orange and Osceola counties.

I was there for hurricane Charley in August of 2004. I cannot believe it has been 10 years. Now THAT was a storm. Unless it's a hurricane and the parks are closed, put me in coach. :cool1:

We were just in Universal Studios Friday afternoon during a quick storm and it was pretty brutal. Heavy rains and heavy winds forced huge table umbrellas to start blowing over and almost took out this family of 4 who was trying to stay dry underneath one of them. I jumped down from the steps I was standing on with my family and closed the umbrella and got soaked. When the rain finally subsided, we hit Twister, Shrek 4 and Dispicable me and I froze my butt off in the air conditioning.

I can't imagine how brutal it would have been had the winds been worse and the rains lasted longer last Friday night. It was pretty brutal and the lightening and thunder was literally right over our heads.

Don't really want to poke this issue but have you ever vacationed anywhere else and had it rain? Would you have asked for your money back then as well? AS far as I understand, Disney World doesn't control the weather. Neither does any other vacation destination in the entire world.

Who said anything about asking for their money back? :confused3
