As a joke, I sent my neighbors the Disney planning video to get them into Disney....... this was last year some time. They have never been to Disney, ever. Their only connection to Disney is that planning video, ever. They have never registered online or anything.

They got a postcard code yesterday! They have no plans to go! Kind of a waste of a code, especially when I am sitting in the house just to the east of them praying for a code!

Now, this is getting frustrating!

I did get my planning DVD and CD Rom yesterday, but no codes accompanying it.... frustrating!

Ya know sometimes don't you feel like just turning the other cheek and saying "Hit me again" - how much can one person take!!!!!- that's awful... I feel so bad for you.... I am still waiting for my planning kit ...

oh that would kill me!!! I ordered the planning kit for my mom and for us just to see if it would get us any codes but no luck so far.

Well that just stinks! I am sorry..... I am beginning to think that they send codes and emails out to people who "don't" usually go. I have to admit we have recieved post cards every fall for the last five years and we have not been able to go to WDW for 6 years. Now we want to go this year and my luck we will not get a postcard!

If it makes you feel any better I ordered a kit last fall for our first trip and I didn't get a postcard. I have never gotten an email or postcard in my life.

The purpose of a targeted promotion is to motivate people who would otherwise not go to Disney or would stay offsite to book their vacation in a Disney Resort.

From Disney's perspective it doesn't make a lot of sense to give discounts to people who would otherwise stay in the same resort at rack rate.

Discounts are nice but as soon as you make a reservation you're saying you'll be happy staying in that resort at the price you reserved at. If you won't stay unless you get a discountdon't make a reservation. All you're doing is increasing occupancy and decreasing the probability of Disney offering discounted rooms for the days you're going.

If you can't get a rate you're happy with in a Disney resort look at the S/D, DTD hotels or even off site properties. That's the best way to tell Disney the hotel rates are too high.

some people have posted that they already have an on site reservation when they receive an email or postcard rate. The one time I used a postcard rate that I received, I already had a reservation too.

I should add too...I don't think I will get one in the future for the time I usually go either because there was a record in the system that we used the code for our June trip in 2003.

I don't think Disney is only trying to target people who don't normally go. I have been 8 times in the past 4 years and I got a postcard a few weeks ago. I was able to get a room at the Contemporary using the postcard. That will be our 5th time staying there. I have never paid rack rate at Disney.

I agree. But we made reservations at the AAA rate because we were scared into it. People here on the DIS panicked us into thinking that we better book now to ensure that we'll have rooms.

Now, here's my spin. I definitely agree that it is 'targeted marketing'

We went to WDW in January of 2003, and January of 2004. Both resort reservations were made sometime in August/September and then changed to reflect my AP discount when they became available. I had reserved a resort that we were comfortable without discounts, and the AP discount was just gravy.

Flash forward to fall of 2004. No trip planned for this January, just not in the cards (or budget). What do I get in my email right around the end of October? Yep, an email with PIN for resort discount.

They must have missed me :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I think we can talk about this around and around until we are blue in the face, and none of us DISers will ever figure out the methodology. I know it stinks and is frustrating.

Here's one that's even more baffling. My in-laws got a postcard last year. They have NOTHING to do with Disney. No video, never been there, I don't think they've ever traveled to Orlando. I don't get that one at all! :confused3

I don't know how it works but DH and I have gotten postcards and e-mail codes many times. After staying on-site 4 summers in a row and having a 5th reservation for the following summer we got our first postcard. I called and was able to cancel my room at a value and re-book at a deluxe. We haven't gone in the past two years so we have had to toss quite a few postcards and e-mails. I really have no idea how it works. :confused3 I just hope when we are ready to go back we have as much luck but I won't count on it.

I have been receiving post cards for years, usually late summer and again in early fall. This year we are planning on going and I bet I won't get a post card this year, that would be my luck!! I hear you.

Those postcards and e-mail codes are like the golden ticket!!! We all are eating Wonka bars and not getting one then someone who doesn't eat chocolate gets one! LOL!

Our e-mail code said that "we see you've enjoyed stays at our Value resorts in the past, why not try a moderate" or something to that affect. We've also stayed at a Deluxe. Wish they said here is a deluxe rate at the price of a value! Hey, we needed one and we took it for POFQ!

So, did you cancel. Or are the Dis people keeping your panic level up?
