If you've found a great deal for a rental car for August 09, please tell which rental car agency you've used and how you got your deal? Checked with Mousesavers, Costco, Club, Airline etc... or Anything for the general public - please share. Pick up at Airport (MCO) or other location. Post your deal here .

I booked a car in January for this August at Budget. No code, 12 days, midsize car for $305. I'm glad that I booked it when I did!

I used the KISS2 promo code with Dollar.
Full size $301
compact $274

Aug 29-Sept 5

We'd really like it until Sept 7 but we'll be onsite at Universal so we really won't need a car.
Those extra 2 days make it:

mid size $387 (full size was $415!)
compact $365

We haven't decided if we're keeping the cars the whole time or giving them back before taking a van svc. to the Hard Rock Hotel.

Guess I'll keep checking.popcorn::

I've been watching for deals for awhile now for our trip which is August 16-26. We will be at BCV for 7 n then are going to the DVC Vero Beach property for 3 n. So TECHNICALLY, we can use DME for our 7 n at WDW then rent a car for just the 3 n we need for Vero. For convenience I wanted to rent from either Alamo or National so we could get the car at the Car Care Center on property and get picked up by the shuttle then return the car to MCO. We will want the car for appox. 3 days + about 3 extra hours on our return day. Those extra few hours are throwing me off. This really throws me into needing the car for 4 days.

Checking again this morning, the better deal was National over Alamo thru Costco. The best Alamo deal was for a 4-day rental and the bottom line was $225.30 for a "Fullsize". Then I looked at the National deals and found a 2 car class upgrade deal to reserve either a Compact or a Mid-size (deal good thru June 2010)!! So if I reserve a "Compact" we get a "Standard" size for a total of $162.60 including all the fees and if I reserve a "Midsize" we get a "Fullsize" for a final total of $184.97. Now to decide on which size to rent. Can anybody tell me the real diff. in trunk size between a Monte Carlo or an Impala? I anticipate we will have 3 carry-on size bags, our Owners Locker and at LEAST 1 large 30" duffle. We're 2 adults and 1 child. The Owners Locker will probably have to go in the backseat with DS. Will these other 4 bags fit in the trunk?? I drive an SUV so I have a hard time figuring out trunk size.:confused3

BTW, just as a comparison if I reserved the "Compact" for the full 10 days the total was $352.24 and we'd actually have the "Standard" size with this deal.

ETA: just tried to research the cu. ft. cargo space between the Monte Carlo and the Impala since those were the types listed on the National website and discovered that the Monte Carlo was discontinued in 2007! :rotfl: Wonder what the substitute is now?

I just called National to find out what the substitution is for the Monte Carlo since it's no longer made & the agent told me it would be like a Chevrolet Malibu or Ford Fusion or Dodge Avenger... So I prattled on a bit about my Costco coupon code for the 2 car class upgrade & trying to decide between which size & she asked for the contract ID & the coupon code & entered it & she was actually able to reserve me the "fullsize" for basically the same price as the online deal I was getting for reserving the compact (std. size)!! She forced it thru using the Costco code. So I ended up with $34.99 / day ($167.08 Total with fees) for a 4 day fullsize rental. I am happy with that as a couple of months ago the best deal I'd found was about $44 /day or $201. She emailed me a confirmation / receipt.

I will of course check again on the rates as our dates get closer, just to be sure I've done the best I can...but it's sounding like that's a good deal these days. But so my recommendation is to price something out online then call to see if the agent can beat the deal at all over the phone!!:thumbsup2

You might want to try the OOAG code with Dollar instead, I tried both codes and 'OOAG' saved me another 50.00 on my rental. I just modified the reservation with the new code.

Try let me know how you make out.

Thanks neighbor!!!

OOAG for 1 week:
full size $268.68 ($33 less)
compact $245.29 ($29 less)

with the extra 2 days:

full size $ 368 ($47 less)
midsize $345 ($42 less)
compact $326 ($39 less)

Thank you so much. I tried this code a while back but back then it gave same price as KISS2 which is easier to remember.
Glad to see it's even better. I'll have to save this one!

You are quite welcome, I started out with the KISS2 code as well, and someone told me about the OOAG code. Saved me as well. Thats what this board is for.

Glad to Help a neighbor .....

corporate code oi1054 from dollar saved me $13 off my OOAG code for a van

Does anyone know if National has kiosks at MCO? We have a reservation for Alamo that is a few cents cheaper than National right now, but if National gets cheaper we could switch. Though I wouldn't switch if it was not convenient.

With national and Alamo I notice that if you upgrade from either compact (National 2 class upgrade) or Alamo (1 class upgrade) that you are put in to a standard size. Which I don't think they have an isle for at MCO. The Malibu is in the full size class for Alamo, though model years before 2008 were mid size.

I just booked National this morning to return at MCO as it was cheaper than Alamo with that 2 car upgrade - we don't usually rent cars in FL tho so I have no idea where it is or how much time we need to allow for the return / xfer to the airport...good question!! We have to return our Owners Locker at the car rental place too - I was thinking 30 minutes to turn in the car & take a shuttle to the terminal?! Anybody know if that sounds about right?? :confused3

With National you don't need a kiosk. It's free to join Emerald Aisle which allows you to enter your info ahead of time. When you get to the garage, you can choose from any car on the Emerald Aisle. This will guarantee you at least a midsize, many times full size, sometimes minivans, suv, etc.
You just take the car and stop at the exit booth similar to Alamo. If you know for certain you need something larger than a mid size, you can book that size, say minivan. Just go straight to the minivan row, take your car and stop at the exit booth. Either way you show your Emeral Aisle ID card at the exit booth.
VERY convenient but owned by the same company as Alamo so their cars are equivalent. Alamo is usually way cheaper and offer SWA rewards so I deal with the kiosk to save some $. I've never seen National cheaper than Alamo. If it ever was cheaper I would give up the SWA rewards for National's convenience. [/QUOTE]

I've noticed this too. I wonder what they'd give you if your ressie says standard size. Would they upgrade you another level to full size if your upgrade coupon gets you a standard size? I've never tried cuz I'm too chicken they'll say I can't use the upgrade coupon. Maybe I should call and ask?

Alamo and National are the same company now. They are located right at the airport and no shuttles are required. The cars are located in the parking structure.

I will try this too. I'm really not a fan of Dollar. We waited in line for almost an hour last time we rented from them and the minivan was a dump. Huge bleach stains on the carpet, dirty, old, very used ash tray and reeked of smoke. I was so disgusted with waiting so long and knew they'd tell me to go back to the terminal to get another car. Thank God it was only for 2 days.

I just rebooked with National/Costco, and I saved money over the Alamo/Costco rate. Seems silly, since they are the same exact cars on the same exact lot.

I was aware that they are on airport as we rent from Alamo all the time and the cars are the same cars. Though I would like to know if National has checkin terminals.
