Post your Deal... Rental Car Codes August

Yeah they will probably go down again before our trip but I hate even the thought of paying $430 for 8 days in a midsize. Crazy! Mine is the 211220 code and I know for a fact people are having trouble with it. You can't get through the kiosk with it. I don't know what the 7011111 was.

I don't think you can use coupons at the Kiosk....Can the code be used at the counter? Has anyone used it successfully?

Hi, I used this one(7011111) also, for my upcoming July trip. I did make a BACK-UP reservation. But now I cannot remember WHY this code was questionable?? Anybody have the answer?? Thanks, Joan

From what anyone could find out, that code was made up by someone or they plugged in a wrong number... people have reported that they were able to use it successfully

I think you do have to be a member of Costco...I know I have to be a member of BJ's to use their discount codes.......

For the costco code, are you suppose to be a member in order to use it?

You don't have to be a member to view their codes on the Costco website. You can book with the codes. Though they may ask for proof of membership. Though in all the times we have booked Entertainment codes at Alamo we have never been asked to show our Entertainment card or a coupon. We do own the book.

I did call Alamo today to ask what I need to show to use the Costco code. They said I just needed to show my Costco membership card. I haven't seen any rate so far that is less than what I got from Alamo to get a 7-day mid-size SUV for $192 using the Costco code.

I just called National to find out what the substitution is for the Monte Carlo since it's no longer made & the agent told me it would be like a Chevrolet Malibu or Ford Fusion or Dodge Avenger... So I prattled on a bit about my Costco coupon code for the 2 car class upgrade & trying to decide between which size & she asked for the contract ID & the coupon code & entered it & she was actually able to reserve me the "fullsize" for basically the same price as the online deal I was getting for reserving the compact (std. size)!! She forced it thru using the Costco code. So I ended up with $34.99 / day ($167.08 Total with fees) for a 4 day fullsize rental. I am happy with that as a couple of months ago the best deal I'd found was about $44 /day or $201. She emailed me a confirmation / receipt.

I will of course check again on the rates as our dates get closer, just to be sure I've done the best I can...but it's sounding like that's a good deal these days. But so my recommendation is to price something out online then call to see if the agent can beat the deal at all over the phone!!:thumbsup2

I also went to National via Costco.com
I used the 25% + 2 class upgrade option .... I booked a midsize (to get the upgrade to fullsize) from Aug 23 to Aug 29 for $157.44 ($200.28 in total with taxes etc).

So far, I have checked the different options under Avis, Alamo, Budget, Enterprise .....and NATIONAL seems to have the best price for me.

Thanks for the tip !!!

It is questionable because the people trying to use it don't qualify for it. The car rental companies catch on to the widespread usage and start requiring proof of residency, employment ID, or membership ID depending on the terms of the code. These codes don't actually become "questionable" until people start getting denied usage. Those who qualify would never call it a questionable code.

Haven't seen any deal for August, so I'll be watching. I tried to book my July trip and the base rate with code for a mid-size is over $300 a week. I've rented in January and May, and I've yet to see any great deals. Now if I can get a car for a base rate of $200 a week, then that's a good deal. The rates we've seen in the past are gone.

Since nobody in America qualifies, I would imagine it is one of those associated with a travel agency or a residency requirement in another country as has been speculated. I seem to recall a South American origin. There are many codes out there for those of us outside America. They all offer large discounts and usually include insurance.

Just wondering your source of information that nobody in America qualifies?:goodvibes

And a question for my fellow August Disers.:goodvibes

Why is this year different from all other years? From the response on the board to codes and the general prices?

The rental car rates are outageous ...We have rented in Orlando for the last nine years in August....This year is just incomparable to any other year.

I always just found a code and utilized it with success, This year there is a lot of police work going on about the codes...

What is up?:)

The way it has been explained on this board, they have cut back on the number of vehicles and now plan to keep the vehicles longer in inventory. Fewer cars mean higher demand, which means higher prices. They figure they can make even more money by making sure people actually qualify for the codes they are using. Whether true or not, I am not sure, but it makes sense. Someone can correct me if I am wrong.

I have no source. This board is full of people asking about these codes, yet having no clue what they are for or what ID you need. With so many people on the internet asking and nobody knowing, it is safe to assume nobody in America qualifies. Also, how many other legit general codes for Americans offer more than a 50% discount, free insurance and free extra fees? You are lucky to find 10% off at any given time with a possible free 2nd driver and a crappy $25 coupon. :sad2:

I have such a code that I can use, but I need a free second driver. The daily cost of a second driver will eat my savings and then some. The free insurance is not an issue since I have my own. My dates are the 2 weeks mid August. I am seeing barely any relief from the high prices even with military discount, etc. This week alone, the same rental has jumped another $100. I was fortunate that I reserved in Aug last year when the rates first came out. They have since doubled. My worry is that the car class I rented (fullsize SUV) is not even available anymore so I have no idea what they will try to stick me with if they are out when I arrive.

And I still haven't seen any good deals. The only good deals (not great) are the ones that National will release within 2 weeks of your trip. Still not as great as they once were, but at least affordable. So we are still waiting...popcorn::
