Anybody care to make an educated guess as to whether future prices will be affected by the losses incurred by the volcano delays/cancellations?

We were going to hold off booking our October flights to see if Virgin had a May sale, but are a bit worried in case prices start shooting up to recover losses.

Of course they will. I'd bet, though, that demand for air travel temporarily decreases - I'm certainly not planning on a trip next year after this fiasco :sad2:

i booked a flydrive with virgin holidays while it was going on and it was over £400 cheaper than before the volcano

See this is what crossed my mind to begin with. I think a lot of people are panicking, especially in the short term. Those last minute May/June flights that people like to snap up may not be taken quite so hastily now. Also I think plenty of folk have already hesitated to book anyway due to the prices of flights this year so I would imagine that they need to put in some good incentives, at least in the immediate future. Time will tell.

I lost my nerve and booked the flights. And now I don't want to know anything about flight prices post-volcano, lol!

air freight rates have gone up like crazy since the skies reopened...
so i would assume passenger fares will as well...
