Hello,
I'm still in the interview phase of the Professional Internship application, but I did have a question about what happens after the internship.

I know at most places, if you perform well and get along with the staff, they may take you on full-time. But I have no idea how the Disney PI program works.

Has anyone had success with getting a full-time job at Disney (in your area of internship or another department) after your internship ended?

One of my managers on the CP was a PI and I know she extended and then I guess she got full time because I'm pretty sure she's still there.
that's all I know haha.
I do wonder about that though too, or what you could do if you couldn't stay in the same area but wanted to stay in Disney.

It really just depends on the location. There are some locations that it's almost unheard of for people to get statused after.

Others, it's just like you said, where as long as you get along with people well enough you'll probably have a FT job afterwards. It depends on the location, what's available, and who the leaders are.

Sometimes they may let you go part time or seasonal as well. It just depends on so much that there's not really a good answer to this question!

Just my opinion, but i think this may not be the best way to look at it. If you do indeed get the PI, you should view it as simply a temporary internship, and focus on learning and doing the best job you possibly can. If you go in with certain expectations and employment hopes, that could cloud your work and time in general. I can imagine that spending time worrying about getting hired is something not necessarily a positive thing in the long run. Maybe you'll get a nice surprise and get FT, but don't expect it, as FT is not the purpose of the PI program.

It has everything to do with the department you are in and how they handle internships (to whether you can even extend) and whether they are looking at the interns as potential permanent employees or just temporary labor.

If you get a position there will be lots of coaching from your leaders so you'll know the deal right from the start. It's not a secret. If you want to stay on then make it known and do the best work you can.

Do you have any idea about the Yellow Shoes department and whether or not they tend to extend or not? Everyone's answers have been great, I'm mostly just curious, it's not something that will change my opinion about the internship or not.

When it comes to PI's and employment after the fact, its true that it varies by department. The best thing to do is to stay in constant contact with whomever your leader is and let them know what your long term goals are. You'd be surprised at how small a world it is when it comes to this Company and the contacts they may have. Your best bet for employment post-PI is to constantly network and never feel like any role is beneath you.

When I interned, I worked for College Housing, I wasn't able to extend as I had done a CP the prior semester. Even though I was selected to the Lodging LCC Leadership Pool (Intense interview process to get a talent pool of hourly Cast Members they think would be good managers when medical leaves, etc. happen), I still had no guaranteed job after my PI. I went to Casting and took the only FT role available at the time, Housekeeping at the All-Star (only other option was seasonal at Cosmic-Rays). Since then, I've moved around a bit and am now in my dream job with Disney's Global Media team and the contacts I made at the All-Star helped me get there.

As far as Yellow Shoes goes, depends on your role within that department. A lot of the "full-time" people in Creative are on contract however.
