City special is not a code.

When you put in your rental info and the list of cars populates there is a yellow line item that says city specials. Just click and it will give you the specials

YES!!!!

Our pick up on March 28 (4:30 pm) to April 5, 2014 (6:30 pm) Dollar rental just dropped from $392 to $148 total. We have a full-size Altima (though in reality I don't think an Altima is really a full-size but by Dollar's standards it is). I am just thrilled beyond belief to have such a drop!!! Ive never had a problem with Dollar vans being dirty. We always get a minivan. But they do try to upsell a lot at the counter. You just have to tell him to practice "no, thank you" to everything. Even when they ask twice. It is their job. If they didnt ask, they would get fired, but they cant make you say yes! I am just happy my rate dropped $600 overnight!

Do you happen to remember what kind of minivan(s) you have gotten?

I can totally understand and relate, my kiddos are grown so I'm usually standing right next to my DH. Just try and fill him in on what you are getting ahead of time and tell him you don't need an upgrade (unless it's free of course), you don't need insurance, you don't need to pay for gas ahead of time so you don't have to worry about it on your way back, you don't need GPS, and so on (if I can think of any other questions I'll add to this later).

Have been trying to book a mini-van for May 15-23 for months now but the rate seems to be stuck on a high rate for that week. I check everyday and check at lots of different times but no luck.

YAHOO! Just booked a full size from 3/29 to 4/5 for $117.00. Been looking at rates since we booked the trip. The lowest I could find before was $259.00 through Costco. That will pay for our meal at Ohana!

I think I can avoid that by joining their Dollar Express. But I have read reviews about the cars being dirty, oil light on, gas gauge not working, ect. I'm driving to and from Port Canaveral and would hate to break down on my way back to catch a flight.

We have been using Dollar for 20+ years (sometimes also use Alamo and National) and we've never had a problem with any car. Most of the time they're very new and very clean. If I ever was given one that was as you said, I would not accept it.

Thanks folks, got a full size in TPA from 3/6-3/12 for 152 all incl. last night. Weird that if I went beyond 7pm return the rate jumped to $344.

Just for giggles, I went back to check Dollar's site and plugged in the exact same info I did at 8 pm last night where I got $148 for 8 days (full size Altima) and the price is BACK UP to $320???!!!

I feel so blessed to have logged on at that exact time the price dropped. That is crazy Just goes to show, you have to continually keep checking several times a day

Just logged into Dollar and got a mini van for $273!!!!! this is total - the base rate is $153/week. for Feb 23rd thru Mar 3rd!!!! I am so happy! My previous reservation was for $514. Yay me!! Alamo is showing a price of $606 for the same dates and van.

March 7 -14 picking up at Sanford still high. Best I have been able to find is a SUV special from Dollar for $258. Thought I had a compact from Thrifty for $238 but had booked it for the wrong dates,whoops. Any idea why that week is so high?

You need to check multiple times per day. I finally scored the low rates a couple nights ago. I got a full size for $111 all in and an SUV for $154 all in for March 3-8. I got my low rates during the middle of the night. I think it was about 2:30 est. Good luck.

Yep, they are back up again. I just checked and for our March 21st-31st dates, the midsize I booked a few days ago for $163.00 is now $388.00 and the standard I booked for $166.00 is now $400.79. The Costco prices are holding steady though: $423.52 for a midsize and $439.00 for a standard through Alamo. I think they've been around that price for over a month now. Sure glad I booked the Dollar city special deal a few days ago.

I have been watching my week (March 7 - 14) for over two months. Seems like everyone else is seeing their rates go down, mine are up! Glad I snag a passable rate when I did. But it burns me to pay $259 for a week, never paid that much before.

I logged to to see if my rate dropped since others having success .. I got 4/17-4/27 for $300 all in for a minivan at MCO last week. Now same car for same time with same city special is almost $800. Rental car game is CRAZY!

I've been checking daily for our dates March 7 - March 16. Dollar has had the best rate so far. The amount hasn't fluctuated much for the past couple of weeks - it has only gone down about $10. I just did a search on Kayak and they have a rental quoted for Dollar that is about $30 cheaper than what I can get on the Dollar website using a AAA code. Is there any chance there are hidden fees or miscalculation of taxes on the Kayak website? This is not a prepay option....just don't want to get surprised when I pick up the car.
