Post all SW questions concerns, etc. here...

Ugh, I cancelled the Plus card because I want to try to get the 100,000 point Priority card but it keeps saying I have a Southwest card. Does anyone know how long the card has to be closed before I am eligible for a new card?
This was included in the email I received in November:

This product is available to you if you do not have a current Southwest Rapid Rewards® Credit Card and have not received a new Cardmember bonus within the last 24 months. This does not apply to Business Card and Employee credit card products.

Yes, I know in the past when we cancelled a card, it was a 2-year waiting period before the same person could get a new one in their name - at least to get the benefits or promo. We've alternated at times with me being primary and my spouse being primary.

To clarity, it's two years from the date the sign up bonus was earned, not two years from when it was cancelled.

I’ve had that card for more than two years so haven’t gotten a bonus is quite a while. I think there must be a waiting period after I close the card though, I’m just wondering what that is?

To get a new bonus it you must apply 24 months or longer after the bonus was received not the card opening date which is harder to determine unless you tracked spend or have had the card for a long long time. Most welcome offers give you at minimum 3 months and then say the bonus is issued 6-8 weeks later but it is usually sooner.

If you currently have a SW card and close it you may open a new one 31 days later to qualify for the new offer.

I have one of the promotional companion passes until October. My companion is all set on my account. I would like to book on points, but I do not have enough. My husband has a lot of points. He is not my companion. Would I be able to sign in to his RR account, book my ticket adding my RR number . Then sign in my RR account and add my companion.

Thanks

I am quoting myself because I finally got the answer to my question and I thought it might be helpful in case anyone else is interested!

I cancelled my card last Sunday August 3rd and have tried applying for the new card every day and up until today would get a message saying I can't apply because I have a card already. But I tried this morning (August 9th) and it went through! Yay! I've been holding off purchasing MVMCP and Jollywood tickets so I can put them on that card towards the $4,000 in 5 months. Looking forward to those 100,000 bonus points!

Wow that is great news!! All of the other data points said you could not apply until day 30 or 31 after closing.

Oh really?? Maybe they just got sick of me applying every day!!
The inverse is typically the process - you keep applying and they don’t allow you to apply anymore.

Even though you were able to apply you may not end up getting the rewards. Don’t get too excited yet. You may have been eligible for the card and future rewards but not be eligible for the sign up bonus.

Has anyone successfully done a “product switch” and received the sign up bonus for the Priority card? Debating doing this with my SW Plus and changing to Priority.

I also want to switch but the other way. My priority card annual fee is increasing so I want the plus. It's been over 24 months since I opened the card. Should I call and discuss with them about switching and hopefully getting sign on bonus or should I cancel and reapply?:fish:

Typical guidance is to cancel and reapply.

You could always try calling, maybe they've got special options right now given all of the recent changes (?), but getting a bonus on a product change would be unexpected

When they came out with the 100K bonus I absolutely think it was to get people to sign up and lock them in, it wouldn't surprise me if they put restrictions that aren't normally there for existing customers as really we're not the target of the sign up bonus, but it'd be something people would want to figure out if there are.
