I have to make a decision quickly on our trip. The kids are going to be so upset if we don't leave tomorrow, but some weather reports are talking about a tropical storm, flooding, etc. and I don't know what to do. It will cost us, but I can change the trip do delay it a week - what would you do??

Help!

Checking the current report, Tropical Storm Chris is heading out to sea and the disturbance in the Gulf may cause some rain but probably not until Sunday.

I doubt it would impact your trip any more than any other summer day in Central Florida.

Thanks for your response ... I am fine with rain (or a storm) each day but am afraid that this is going to be all day, every day. With 50%, 60% and some 80% chance of rain predictions, isn't that a little worse than the typical Florida weather, or is that typical??

IF the disturbance develops into a named storm (Debbie does Disney lol), you could end up rained out maybe one day as it would probably zip through central Florida and continue northeast. That is if it develops and tracks that way.

These types of storms can be tricky to predict with a great deal of certainty. It could also just kind of meander around drizzling in the Gulf and fizzle or turn or any number of things.

Personally, I live in NE Florida (and got slammed by Beryl on Memorial Day) and if I had the time available this weekend, I would be heading to the Portofino. Weather will always be an issue in Florida during Hurricane season. You just learn to live with it and not get caught up in the hype the weathermen throw at you. They love to give the dire warnings - it is their time to shine and pull in ratings.

Worst case - your stuck doing indoor activities for a little while. Can be frustrating but it is the price you pay for paradise.

It's not typical FL weather but a lot depends on what the tropic system does between now and the weekend...which could be anything.

Thanks so much for your replies.

I do realize there is no definitive correct answer to give, but appreciate your help. We are all packed and ready to go, but I guess I will just make the final call in the morning after we see if anything changes. :worried:

I hope it washes out to sea and doesn't affect your trip! Fingers crossed for some great weather for you guys. I would still go. :goodvibes

Okay, we will soon be on our way! Just hoping for the best!

Thanks again for the input and listening to my freak out! ;)

we are here now and it's our last day and it has rained for the past day or so but we have got some quality time at the parks before the rain hits and it just started raining now
so it's a hit or miss thing right now :goodvibes

Typical Florida summer weather.:thumbsup2

i have had many a trip in orlando when it rains.
was in two hurricane heavy rains for many days straight......
go prepared for clothes that will be best in monsoons.........

but going to the darkside/motherland, you know it will rain some days on your trip, especially in the summer and early fall months.

parks tend to empty out in heavy rains that last a good portion of the day but take advantage of it.
low lines.......

going to the far south in summer is like coming to chicago in january/february.
florida you'll get rain
up here, lots of snow and freezing temps.

don't delay your trip for a week, it might not hit when you get there.
and a new tropical storm could arise for the week you reschedule.

go and have lots of fun!!

We are supposed to be there this weekend through Monday too. It's hard seeing these weather reports when this wkend will cost so much there, but we aren't canceling. I figure it can't be all day rain? (hopefully not being naiive). There must be some indoor things - although if we are wet we will freeze from the air conditioning. Sorry - know how you feel. I'll cross my fingers with you!

You can do the Studios w/o much issue since most of the attractions are inside. I can tell you the parks will not be crowded if it's supposed to rain all day. Right now, the forecasters are saying rain off and on during the weekend but I'm hoping the forecast will improve. Saturday looks to be the wetter of the two days.

I'm leaving early tomorrow morning for the same thing, coming back Monday. I learned years ago not to stress about Florida weather. 98% of the predictions don't come true and it's just a minor inconvenience. Was just looking to sign up for the Annual Passholder Despicable Me stuff but either it's all booked up, or they are not offering it on Saturday or Sunday as it's legitimately the only two days out of the next 10 that you can't sign up for.

Well...so far so good on the rain. Nothing at my house all day and I live about 25 minutes north of the parks. It's like a sauna outside though...very humid and cloudy. I sure wouldn't want to be out walking around with all the humidity but for those at the parks, enjoy and let's hope the rain misses us.

The rain is definitely here, and all reports I've seen indicate it is not going away. On the plus side, wait times at the Wizarding World were nil this evening. The only wait for Forbidden Journey was the time needed to walk through the queuing area to the boarding platform, since there wasn't a queue. Ollivander's was either a 1- or 2-show wait, maximum. And no wait for dinner at the Three Broomsticks.

Not fun to get rained on, to be sure, but also not a lot of fun to stand around in 95-degree sunshine. I suppose outdoor stuff like the Frog Choir will have to await a break in the weather.

The rain is supposed to continue practically non-stop until sometime Tuesday evening. We need the rain but this is ridiculous.

TS Debby needs to get her butt out of here!

Well, we are back and we survived! :thumbsup2

Although the last 5 days weather wasn't pleasant, we did get to do everything we wanted multiple times. (Except a day trip to Legoland) Not really any pool time unfortunately.

Had a GREAT time though, despite everything. Thanks for all your input!

Glad you had a good trip despite the weather. Sorry you didn't make it to Legoland, we are due to go there in August and haven't read many reviews of it.
