I'm in the market for a portable DVD player...and thought you guys might have some suggestions on a good one. What features are handy? How big do I need to get the screen? I think lightweight, portable and easy to use are my main concerns. We have a built in one in the car, so that isn't important. Just looking for some brand you have used and liked...
Thanks in advance!

In my experience, the most important features are a flip screen so you can flip it around to cover all the buttons (a must if using for a younger child) and also dual headphone ports in case more than one person or child wants to watch. I think a 7" screen is fine considering you're sitting right in front of it. We bought a Zenith brand player a couple of years ago for a little over $100 with these features.

hth!

I think ours is Memorex, we got it at costco. It's 8 inches wide and over 4 years old and it's still in great condition. It's got two earphone inputs and is clear and crisp. Not quite sure what your needs are regarding an portable dvd, but if you are thinking about getting one for airplane have you thought about a video ipod. Since you have a dvd in your vehicle, an ipod is totally portable and is multi use. My ds got his video ipod 2 christmases ago and it has kept him busy on airplanes, car rides, lines in DL, waiting for the fireworks and parades. We got an eaphone splitter so dd can watch and listen as well. We also have a program that convert dvds into mp4 format so we can upload our dvd movies to his ipod without buying movies from itunes.

Go for the sony dvx-300, My husband was very impressed. ( I was just happy he got it after hours of searching!)

We bought the Sony one as well- it had (at the time) the longest running battery of them all at 7 hours.

I second this idea. We always thought the portable DVDs were too expensive so used our laptop. However, we have since purchased Disney Mix Max players and have been extremely happy with them - they play mp3 & videos, like an ipod, but much more affordable. The players have expandable memory w/SD cards and we can load a bunch of movies, music and audio books. Each child has their own, for the same or less than 1 portable DVD player, which I have read on these boards often break after a year or so.

There are some available at Walmart.com:
