My aunt is traveling with us this trip and she has issues standing for long periods of time. Sitting on the ground for the parades is not an issue for her either as she just can't get back up. Would carrying a portable camping type chair be allowed? Alternatively, where would she be able to sit for : Illuminations, Festival of Fantasy parade, Main Street Electrical parade and Wishes? Should we just rent a wheelchair in the evening for the parades? Thanks for any help.

Folding seats are not allowed -- camping chairs, stools, etc.

She may want a wheelchair. That will provide her with a seat anywhere, whenever she needs it.

Another option is a "cane seat" -- which functions as a walking cane, but opens out to a tri-pod seat (I think I saw one with 4 legs). This is going to be more stool-like than chair-like, but it may be all she needs.

Another option is a rollator, which is a walker with a seat attached. But it doesn't sound like she needs assistance with walking.

Enjoy your vacation!

I'd suggest she get a rollaider. They make walking much easier and she can sit to rest and watch the parades. Get one with larger wheels. My husband and I are seniors and bringing ours this trip.

I didn't know that folding chairs weren't allowed. I've seen them in parks several times, the ones that fold up like an umbrella.

I suppose there are people who manage to slip past security with a folding chair. You can be turned away at the entrance, or if you get past there you may be asked to fold it up and not use it once in the park. It is officially on the list of "Restricted Personal Items" on WDW's website:

Q. What types of personal items are not permitted inside the theme parks?
A. You may not bring the following types of items into the theme parks:
  • Wagons
  • Skateboards
  • Scooters
  • Inline skates
  • Shoes with built-in wheels
  • Strollers larger than 36" x 52" (92 x 132 cm)
  • Suitcases, coolers or backpacks with or without wheels larger than 24" (61 cm) long x 15" (38 cm) wide x 18" (46 cm) high. Coolers required for medication may be stored in a locker or at Guest Relations.
  • Any trailer-like object that is pushed or towed by an ECV, wheelchair or stroller
  • Wheeled mobility devices with less than 3 wheels and devices that cannot maintain stability and balance when stopped, unpowered or unoccupied. Training wheels or similar modifications are not permitted.
  • Alcoholic beverages
  • Weapons of any kind
    [*]Folding chairs
  • Glass containers (excluding baby food jars and perfume bottles)
  • Pets (unless they are service animals)
  • Balloons, straws and drink lids are not permitted in Disney's Animal Kingdom Park for the safety of our animals
  • Tripod stands or monopod stands that cannot fit inside a standard backpack
  • Additional items may also not be permitted inside the theme parks. Please use your best judgment and do not bring anything that may be potentially harmful or disruptive.

As stated above, "cane seats" are allowed because they are considered a mobility aid.

Enjoy your vacation!
