port upgrade requests and timing of such

I have been reading about port upgrades, but have a more specific question. We are currently a 9C on the Magic (which will be totally fine if that's where we stay!) I'd love to upgrade to a verandah or navigator's verandah. My guess is that I would not be interested in the price upgrade (toooo muchd $$$$$) to a Category T or V.

It seems like many people who reported getting port upgrades get there first thing in the morning--10 or 10:15 or 10:30. But if I just want to upgrade to a 7B or 7C or a 5C, is it still beneficial to get there early? We can get there as early as we need to, and our port arrival time is 11AM.

What happens if I get there at 10:15, adn there is only Category T or V......if other people upgrade to those, then won't I be able to upgrade to their verandah? How would I know it's available if I've already turned down the Category T or V? Do I wait near the port upgrade desk to see if a verandah comes available?

Thanks for any all advice--I am a bit nervous about this whole trying for an upgrade thing!

for any port upgrade, you want to get there early. it's really a toss up. most times we are onboard the ship by noon and i've noticed at check in and onboard they have the "no upgrades available" sign out.

If you ask for an upgrade at the port they will assume you mean to pay for it.
