Hi,

We are considering a trip to Disney in September 2021 and I've begun early stages of research.

I saw a thread on here for French quarter but I was wondering if there was a similar thread for Riverside?

Also, if anyone has any thoughts, suggestions, ect about Riverside, I'd love to hear those too!

Great resort, one of our favorites. Lots of good things for being a moderate resort. The food court is good, lots of choices to eat. There are bus stops around the resort but we tended to catch the bus out in front of the main building. Pools are nice too. Great resort to take a quiet stroll too. The rooms towards the back of the bayou, in my opinion, tend to be quieter, but are a longer walk from the main building. We have never stayed in one of the mansions so I can't comment on those rooms. Water transportation is also a plus at POR. Can catch the water taxi to Disney Springs.

We are skipping Disney this year to save up for our Honeymoon in 2021 and Riverside is on our radar right now. It looks great. I think it will fit our budget nicely, but if we can save more than anticipated, we want AKL!!

I prefer Port Orleans over French Quarter as well. I love having the boat to disney springs. The link that @loves to dive posted above (portorleans.org) has tons of information on both resorts.

My wife and I honeymooned at AKL recently and on a different trip went to French Quarter. Both hotels are excellent and will be great. I am sure Riverside is similar to Quarter. If I had to go back I'd go to Orleans, but AKL was perfect for a honeymoon spot (if it's safari view room).

Love Riverside! I think I am in the minority, but I choose it over POFQ. It's really quiet and peaceful, has a great QS, the pool is better, and I really don't find the perimeter bus stops to be all that different from the single stop at POFQ. I love going for morning runs here - great way to start the day.

We just got back from disney and a lot of people prefer Riverside so we ended up booking there. However because of our kids the pool/slide was much better at French Quarter and had I known I probably would have booked there.

Interestingly, Port Orleans is the one place where you can pool hop. And it is not a long walk away. So you can easily stay at Riverside and take a short walk to enjoy the pool and super slide at French Quarter

We stayed in a Royal Room with a river view for Thanksgiving week 2018 and loved it! We found the walk to the food court very short and they were wonderful at breakfast with the food allergies of my family members. The bus system worked fine no matter which stop we chose to use.

Thanks for the info and the opinion! Yes, we want a safari view at AKL but if not, we will look at French Quarter and Riverside and make a choice.

The walk at riverside is so beautiful and actually quite short to the dining area, my family and I also took the horse and carriage and it’s just so pretty.

POR is a beautiful resort. We stayed there last year for the first time and loved it. The resort is very spread out though, so depending on your room location, you could be doing a lot of walking to get to the food court and bus stops. Buses run frequently which is nice when you're going to and from the parks. The property is stunning and has a great gift shop.

We stayed there in 2018 and absolutely loved it. My only small complaint is that there is one hot tub for the entire resort. I think there are almost 2000 rooms or something like that. So it was always crowded to the point where it just wasn't enjoyable. I would definitely go back if we took a trip during warmer weather again, but when we do February break I would have to price out deluxes, DVC, etc. which usually have multiple hot tubs and see if the price difference is worth it.

We have stayed at POR many times being a family of five it was our go to resort. Alligator Bayou is nice, but depending on what building you are in you might feel disconnected from the rest of the resort. We were in Building 37 once, and I just didn't like being that far from the lobby and food court. When our oldest went to college, we went once as a family of four and stayed in a Royal Room. Absolutely loved it! Great location...quiet but close to everything. The boat ride to Disney Springs is great. Food court has a lot to offer. You can walk or ride the boat over to POFQ...which you should and get some beignets!

Happy Planning!

Alligator bayou is the best area of POR. Just fantastic.
This is my dream, one day! I stayed at POFQ a few years ago, but took long walks around both resorts and took advantage of the pool hopping feature. I decided that while POFQ is lovely, POR alligator bayou is just the spot for me. Some trip in the future.

And you will be in the right place for that romantic horse and buggy ride. We have done it twice; once on the Mansions side andonce down to POFQ. Both were beautiful, peaceful, and well worth it. The buggy leaves from POR, but you need to book it before you get there. We absolutely love Riverside:)

Chim-Cher-ee, we always stayed at the AB side. The winding pathways over little bridges, the tropical foliage, the great quiet pools, it's all part of AB. We have stayed there many times, and have never had a bad experience with the buses. No different than other resorts we have stayed in. I love the resort store, it's huge and has a little big of everything! The Mill has a great selection of QS food too. Watching the big wheel turn while we are eating breakfast is so relaxing.
Now, however, we stay at POFQ due to mobility issues. I really miss POR but with these issues we find that POFQ works better for us now. We still walk the path to POR once or twice a visit and eat at the Mill and shop at the store. It will always be our home place at WDW!
