Hi,

I am new to this, so please bare with me :)

My future husband and I are going to be staying at the Port Orleans Riverside for our honeymoon at the end of August. I know there are 2 sections...the Alligator Bayou, and the Magnolia Bend. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to stay and what buildings to stay in? I can't make up my mind!

We don't need to be near a pool or anything, and my future husband and I love nature so we don't mind being a little further away from the main building.

Any suggestions and photos would be greatly appreciated!!

Thank you so much!!!

Did our honeymoon at POR in 2002 and stayed at one of the mansions (Archadia House) and another time at the Magnolia House. You will love it no matter where you stay. Enjoy!

We stayed at POR in January, and absolutely loved it! We thought the grounds were gorgeos!! I think it has a very romantic feel to it. We stayed in Alligator Bayou, building #14, and I believe it is the closest to the food court and front lobby of the resort, but you mentioned that you didn't mind walking either. When we go back to POR next year, we will probably request a room in one of the 'mansions' which are on the opposite side of the resort from AB. The mansion buildings have a totally different look to them (at least on the outside) than the buildings in AB. We had a room with a clear view of the winding river that runs through the resort, and loved it, but no matter which area or building you stay in, you should have a lovely view. Loved the food court, as they had quite a bit of variety....waffles, omlettes, cereal, pasta, sandwiches, pork, beef, really nice salad station, and great bakery, etc. We've stayed at 5 other resorts in WDW, and POR is our favorite. We stayed at GF once, and have to say that we prefer POR over GF.

I have stayed in Magnolia House (mansions). I loved it! It's so close to the Dining Hall, a pool and a bus depot. But you did say that those weren't too important to you.

I just liked the feel of Magnolia Bend a little better than Alligator Bayou.

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! :)

Thank you! I'm sure we will enjoy it! I can't wait!

Thank you! How do I get my countdown to show up on my posts?

We have stayed at POR 6 or 7 times and have ALWAYS been in building #24. (only requested it twice)

It is about as far as you can get from the main building but there is a bus deport near at hand and because it is in the back corner of the resort it is extremely quiet.

Do you know that on all our visits we have only seen other guests near our room maybe twice?

Again, very quiet for a honeymoon spot !!

We stayed there for my b-day in January and loved it!! We were in Parterre Place and it was right on the river and soooo peaceful. DH said it was his favorite resort... even better than BC!!!:scared1:

Congratulations and have a great time!!!

We have stayed in Building 39, AB section, 2nd floor, corner room, for the last 2 visits. It is a wonderful location.:thumbsup2 It is across from a quiet pool, and in the afternoon it is like having your own personal pool! ::yes:: It is a short walk to the food court and steps from the bus stop.:thumbsup2

We've stayed there twice and loved it both times. We consider it comparable to a deluxe: Great pool, boat transportation (to DD), good onsite dining options, beautiful landscaping, etc.

We requested and stayed in the Magnolia Terrace building in Magnolia Bend (Mansions section) due to it's proximity to the main pool, nice quiet pool, plus it is close to the marina & food. We prefer the themeing of the Mansions to AB, but AB is really neat too. Since you guys like nature, Alligator Bayou may be the better fit. It is nice just to walk through the winding paths and enjoy the surroundings. (My friend has a funny story about getting off on the wrong bus stop at POR with him and his wife carrying two sleeping childern after a late night at MK - they got lost on those winding paths and an argument ensued...too funny, but I digress).

You guys will have a great time, check out one of the resort maps like this one:

We stayed this past Dec and we loved the rooms and the resort it gorgeous. My only complaint was the poor bus serice while we were there. They share the buses with POFQ and we waited sometimes up to 30 minutes for a bus. Everything else we loved.

I think you'll get the overall feel of the resort in either section you choose. It just comes down to which type theming you prefer in your room.

The rooms at AB have a very rustic feel to them, almost like staying in a cabin. The lights over the beds are lanterns, headboards look like they're made from branches. Very cozy rooms. Lots of greenery outside, little "swamp" areas, lots of bunnies everywhere. You feel like you're out in the country.

The mansion section rooms are more formal and fancy, like what you'd expect a bedroom in a mansion to be like. Manicured lawns and shrubbery outside, fountains, little courtyards.

We've stayed at both and both were nice but I liked AB a little better. We were in building 26 and it was less than a five minute walk to the food courts, main pool and bus stop. There was a quiet pool about a minute away.

Normally for a honeymoon I'd have suggested the mansion buildings for the slightly more 'up market' feel to the buildings and room interiors, but if you are nature lovers then I suspect that the lush vegetation and more rustic feel of the Alligator Bayou section would suit you better.

When you decide what you want, give the Disney Reservation Center a call and get them to add your preference onto your booking, along with the fact that it's your honeymoon, and you stand a good chance of getting what you want.

There are a load of pics of both sections of the resort at www.portorleans.org, hope they help you decide - and whatever you get, I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time. I'll be there at the end of August too, so if I see a couple wearing Mickey'n'Minnie Wedding Ears and watching the wildlife, I'll say hi!

Hey Andre,

You're going to be there at the end of August? Are you staying at POR?

Congratulations. One hint we did and love it, even with the kids. One evening you need to go to DTD. What we did is, we left our room just before sunset(about 30 mins prior), walked down the river to POFQ and got on the water taxi there. If you work out the timing right, you will be getting into the lake at DTD just when the sun is going down.:thumbsup2 And oh yeah, when you get to DTD, on the boardwalk next to Captian Jack's there is the "Margarita Bar" if you like marg. you will love the Don Julio Marg.:smokin:

I am sounding like a broken record on this, but oh well! The OP is a group of 2 adults, so it's very possible they will get placed in mansions. Not set in stone of course, but certainly more likely. Sometimes POR won't place smaller groups in Alligator Bayou because it can hold five people, and POR wants to save the rooms for those larger families.

On my last 2 stays at POR (with less than 5 people), I requested Alligator Bayou, but instead got mansion Parterre Place (in the almost same room, too). At check-in when I was told I got Parterre Place, I politely asked about getting a room in Alligator Bayou, but the CM firmly refused and absolutely would not consider it. Mansions it was, since I wasn't a group of 5.

And often requests aren't even viewed - but you can ask politely at check-in to help your chances of a particular area.

Just wanted to give the OP a head's up on how POR sometimes assigns the rooms. Most areas of the mansions are very nice. :)

LOL, broken record or not, I'd never heard this before but it does help to explain a few things about past stays, so thanks for the heads up :thumbsup2

I have always been at the Mansions. I agree that your requests are not even read, but it doesn't hurt to mention at check in what you want. I love the water taxi too!
