port orleans riverside

Hi Kellie

Yep, got back on the 2nd August, we stayed there for 3 weeks, absolutely loved it, a real southern feel about it, loads of really rich green plant life, nice pools and pool side bar. Nice bar inside as well as the usual self service food and sit down restaurant.

Got loads of pics, ask any questions and I will gladly help if I can.

we've stayed at POR and very much enjoyed it.

There are two sections to it, but we've only stayed in the Alligator Bayou section - which is where i would stay again if i were staying there - we love the rustic feel of that area.

The first time we stayed there we didn't request a particular building, but were given building 14, the closest building to the main building (where the food court is). We liked that location so much we requested it the next time we stayed there and received it.

Some of the things we enjoyed doing at POR:
-- swimming at the main pool - Ole Man Island
-- swimming in the quiet pool near our room
-- renting bikes and riding to POFQ and back
-- fishing - you can rent fishing rods
-- i can't remember the name of the performer in the bar there, but he's lots of fun - plays the piano and sings and gets everyone to sing along and do all sorts of silly things....he plays one night a week from what i recall, but maybe more...

thanks for replying. i have read that por is very big, so just wondering if i should request a certain area as i have 4 kids the youngest will be 3 and after along day at the parks and being tired or asleep, i dont fancy having to carry them to far. do you have any advice on this. and do u know if it is poss to request a certain area (i have read that it is)
thanks

We have stayed at POR for the past 4 years in the AB section and will be there again in Sept.
We always request building 18, which is a stones throw from Building 14. Building 18 used to be a smoking building.
There is a quiet pool and laundry facility right out side of building 18, but not far from 14.
The closest bus depot is South depot, and is generally the first pickup for POR.
It's about a 5 min walk to either building 18 or 14.
The performer in the lounge is Yehaaa Bob Jackson.
He is there on Wed, Thurs, Fri, and Sat.
You can find his web page at yehaabob dot com

We love port orleans! Although not been with Daugther in tow. Just the two of us.
I love it, it's quaint and service is great, especially pizza to your room with a cold beer!:cool1:

Stayed there twice now and it's our favourite resort. Both times we managed to get building 14 in the Bayou section :)

Great quiet pools
Great food court
Bus transportation is good (as long as you use the main south bus deepo). Buses will be very busy coming home when the parks close (after fireworks etc.), so don't rush out of the parks. Grab a snack and find a nice place to sit while the crowds clear out.
Great boat trip to DTD
Lovely landscaping
Resort never seems crowded, even when full

Some great POR photos are available at this DISers website:

I rang them direct today and asked for either Building 14 or Building 18 and the CM told me over the ohone that although they couldn't guarantee it, they would do everything in their power to make sure we got one of those two buildings.

What a fantastic hotel! :thumbsup2 POR is the best WDW hotel we've stayed in.... in fact the best ANY hotel we've stayed at! We love it. We spent hours weighing up the others for next years trip, you know what it's like, you think you've been once and want to try something new, but all the reviews we've read and of course our own memories, we had to book there again. I've seen many a review in favour of both types of accommodation, it's personal choice, we like the grand feeling of the Magnolia Bend Mansions. Either Oak Manor or Parterre Place. Roll on Nov 08!

Hi another :thumbsup2 for POR. We stayed there back in 2004 for 3 days and loved it and could wait to go back this year (june). We were lucky to be give AB 14, right near the main building, a quiet pool and the South Depot bus stop, what more could we ask for. The staff are all so friendly there and it's such a wonderful hotel. You will love it

Hi again

I have to be honest Kellie, I dont really know, but I am sure I have read that because we had three kids, you tend to be in the Aligator Bayou, becasue they have the pull out beds for the 'extra' child. Aligator Bayou includes building 18, which is very close to the main part of the resort and also has a fab quiet pool on the back door step.

Hope this helps

Steve
