Do you guys think that Port Orleans Riverside's room will be big enough for 4 adults and an 11 year old boy? It is alot cheaper to book 1 room as opposed to 2...any thoughts?
Thanks everyone!

I don't think so....even Disney says the trundle is not recommended for guests over the age of 9. It's supposed to be quite small. Unless you have a teeny tiny 11 year old I wouldn't do it.

It depends on the size of the 11 yr old boy and if they allow you to do this. When we booked POR a couple of years ago, they only let those 9 and under sleep on the trundle bed, and therefore in order to book the room your 5th person couldn't be over 9. I have heard that they have changed that rule, but I am not sure. How big is the 11 yr old? The trundle beds are not very big. My dd that is 12 would fit on one just fine because she is pretty petite, but my ds at that age had a harder time on it. He still fit, but it was a little small for him. Of course, he is only 13 now and is 6'1". lol.

Some will tell you that it's too tight, but I guess it depends on what you are used to. We had 6 people in our room because our youngest was under 3 and we found it to be plenty roomy enough for us. :)

Our DS isnt that big...well under 5 feet tall and we were allowed to book for 5 people...Im just waiting for some opions . The savings is almost too good to pass up....what to do...what to do...:confused3

If you're really looking for an opinion.....I'd say you will feel VERY cramped. Even if you are spending minimal time in the room, the time you will be in there would not be worth the savings to me. Again that is just my opinion, and for the cost of two rooms you could look into renting a reservation from a DVC member and go with a one bedroom at one of the resorts that houses 5 people in a one bedroom. You then could save money by eating, at the very least breakfast, in your room because you would have a full kitchen. (not to mention you would be bumping up to a deluxe resort). Just something to think about. :goodvibes

It will be tight, but if you're very good friends, it should work out fine! We've sometimes had four adults in a ship cabin, which is a considerably smaller space than a POR room (though with much better storage options). We've done fine for a week.

We have done POR with 2 adults and three kids, and have added a child under 3 for our next trip. It is tight but we dont spend a ton of time in the room and love the resort. My biggest dilema is the one bathroom that sometimes can be a issue:lmao:

Trundle bed is really for small child, However, my niece who is petite and actually older than 11 used it and it was fine. ;)
It really all depends on "style" of family traveling...........if it is just to sleep, can you all handle it, yeah, prob, but if you all are type to hang in room at all.....prob not.
POR is great by the way..........

I think it's crowded for 4 adults, without adding the 11-year old. One bathroom for 5 people is going to be cramped. I'd consider staying at a value with two rooms.

the trundle is REALLY small. My kids are big kids and I realize that - the type that wore the 24 month clothes at 12 months, etc. But the last time we did the trundle my 5 year old at the time was sleeping on it and he took up the whole bed.

It's a great savings though and if you view the room as "just a place to sleep" and not much else you might be ok.

Also the key strategy to one bathroom with five is to divide up between night showerers and morning showerers. POR is nice too in that you can have one person in the bathroom and still have two sinks where two more people can groom and you can pull the curtain so that there's a private dressing area outside of the bathroom itself. Hope you have a magical trip!

I actually felt less cramped with 4 adults in a room in POR, then in a studio at SSR with three people last year.

One suggestion; with that many adults, bring a surge protector with several outlets. With that many adults, everyone has a lot of electrical items that use up the existing outlets pretty quickly.

I slept on it when I was 14 (i'm a 5'4" 1/2 girl) ... it's not that comfortable, it's tiny, and it's kind of awkward.

The trundle is about 48 inches long and narrow. Room will be cramped with 5 in it, but if it's only to sleep & shower you might be OK. I'd be more concerned about 5 people sharing a bathroom, work out a schedule!

I stayed at POR/DxL about 15 years ago with 4 adults and an 11yo. I don't remember it being cramped. But we hardly spend any time in the room.

When I read this I laughed because my DH sleeps on the trundle...and he is 6'2:lmao: This will be our 3rd trip we are a family of 5 with 3 DD's 11, 10 &9 :goodvibes This trip the trundle will be his again, he said it feels good on his back.

We looooooooooooooooooove POR! Grant it we do not spend a ton of time at our room, just sleep in it and one in awhile during an afternoon break.

To the OP as long as the Adults are fine with sharing beds, it should be no problem. We always move the trundle in between the two beds.

Some pictures for reference - my apologies if they are overly large.

DD7 - then 4 - sleeping in the trundle. She's small for her age.

Other DDs, in the bed above the trundle. Its a full-sized bed, not a queen, your adults need to be REALLY good friends. ;)

DD10, then 7, slept in the trundle as well, and was quite comfortable. As long as your DS isn't too tall, I suspect he'll be fine. But beware that it is a THIN mattress - rather like a crib mattress almost. :sad2:

When the trundle is pulled out it takes up ALL the available space between the wall and the bed on that side, so the only way of entering/leaving the adult's bed is in between the two full sized beds... it does make the room feel quite cramped.

That said, we are going back to POR in 79 days - and we are looking forward to it. Yeah we will be cramped and crowded, but we are only in the room to sleep and shower anyhow, we are in the parks the rest of the time anyway. And I LOVE  POR's atmosphere and pool!

I've been looking for pics of a person in a trundle. I will be there in August with my family. Very useful info!

to the pp who suggested renting points for DVC, they won't rent a 1 bedroom to 5 people, only 4 there. ( I know, makes no sense considering it's much bigger that the POR alternative....but those are the rules......
That being said, if I were OP,I'd get the POR room, save the money, and bring along an air mattress (twin) for the 11 year old, you don't HAVE to use that trundle.... but you can still book the room for the 5 of you-

DVC allows 5 people on a points reservation for a 1 bedroom. OKW (renovated rooms), AKV Kidani and BLT have the sleeper chair that officially sleeps a 5th person. AKV Kidani and BLT has 2 bathrooms in a 1 bedroom.

If you have concerns about the trundle not being big enough, you can always bring along an air mattress. Also, the resorts do have a limited number of cots, but they hand them out on a first come first served basis.

My biggest concern with 5 people would be the single bathroom. But if the idea of that doesn't phase you, then I say go for POR. It is a lovely resort.
