Port Orleans-Riverside w/ wheelchair

A good friend and her mother are going to WDW in December. Mom gets around in a wheelchair. They do not want or need a 'disability/accessible' room.

Are their any buildings that you recommend for guests with a wheelchair?

We went in June of '02 with my daughter who has Cerebal Palsy and is confined to a wheelchair. I would recommend that they send a room request for a main level room in a building that is close to the main ones (close to the food court, Boatwrights, the General Store). We were no more than 100 yards door to food court, and we were on the main level, made things a lot easier for us.

Dmfuru, I will be vacationing at WDW for the first time in a wheelchair. To add to what DJBounce said, if you go over to the Dis' disABILITIES board (click here), you should be able to find some very useful tips to pass along to your friends. I know that those folks over there sure put my mind at ease (and gave me lots of useful information).

This is just my own opinion based on personal experience but...I would really consider a different resort.

We lasted one night at PORS cause everything was just so far away from everything else. Had requested close to bus stop but it was still a country mile, and we didn't get a main floor room and there was no elevator, so I had to go up them with my forearm crutch (and DH had to get the chair up the stairs...not good. good thing I was able to make it up those stairs!

We changed resorts to the CR after one night and were much, much happier.

I'll never stay at riverside again. It's just too spread out, and it takes too long to get to the parks. Just thought I'd put that out there for you!
