As PP noted, preferred are in AB. You could book a garden view and then fax a request for the Mansion buildings (Magnolia, near the footbridge) to get you a nice location. I think those rooms are often just as great as RF.

Thank you Lisa... I didnt even think about garden view... I'm sure that might be a couple dollars less too... I just don't care for the rustic, woodsy feel of the AB pics I've seen...

Do all the rooms have the trundle? I was thinking my 5 year old could sleep on it.

There are no trundle beds. They are Murphy beds that fold down in AB only. Check out Andre's website for pics.

Does it make any difference on getting those connection rooms if we do 1 reservation with 2 rooms or 2 reservations with 1 room each?

In theory as long as the two reservations are 'linked' on the central reservation system, it shouldn't make a difference. In theory...

Where are the preferred rooms located? I don't like the style of the AB rooms... We wanted to stay here last October but good booked at CBR with free dining when POR got too full... Trying to find a room for weekend in June but all that's left is preferred, garden, river and royal rooms.

As has been said, the four Preferred Location buildings are all in Alligator Bayou. The best choice for a guarantee of a good location and a mansion building would be Royal Pool View. Next choice would be regular River View, but with a request for mansion building rather than AB section.

According to http://portorleans.org/room-requests.php, you would have to book King and request preferred because they fall under the King booking category.

Correct, all of the King Bed rooms are sold under that booking category, no matter where in the resort they are located (preferred buildings, river views, etc). See the my floorplan layouts (linked from post #4 in this thread) for an idea of where all the King Bed rooms are located.

I recently booked a river view room for POR in September. I am planning on being put either in Magnolia or Acadian in the mansion section since we are not doing a Royal room. Are those two buildings our only two choices for a River view room? Should I still fax a room request the week prior to our trip if I prefer a top floor room?

Magnolia and Acadian are my fav locations  I request a location close to Old Man island bridge. In jan we had a river view in Acadian, looking at building with back to river we were about 5 rooms down to the right of main staircase. Wonderful room. Close to everything.

Looking forward to my second visit here in July/Aug! I am trying to stay at all the resorts, and staying with my niece, my sister and brother in law and my DS and DBIL really want to stay at POR. I guess it's not like they had to twist my arm or anything!

I am here now! We're having and awesome day so far. We have a great room here at POR. All of my requests were met. :D Love Riverside!! I'm so glad we returned.

Are you in a Royal room this time?

Congrats. Magic is in the air for you all!

Headed to POR in October. We made most of out dining reservations today. I can't wait. This will be our first time staying at POR.

Do they always/usually play older movies during the pool side movies, or do they premier or play the newer movies? Any chance they'll have Captain America or Maleficent playing around opening day or sometime this summer?

I have never seen new releases playing. The dcl plays current releases but not the resorts.

I'll be sending a room request tomorrow for arrival on Saturday. When we stayed a couple years ago in building 16, the wifi was horrible and we had to go to the lobby to check e-mail. My request is for building 17 this time around. Has anyone stayed in this building lately and how was the wifi signal? We'd like to surf the web after our little guy goes to sleep since the tv is right above his bed and not an option.

We had a preferred room booked in POR, but it was an accessible room, which we did not need. It was all that was available to book at the time. I called to ask if there was a non-accessible room to switch to as I did not want to take that room from someone that might need it. The CM was very nice and pleasant and found a room for us. Unfortunately, I was confused at what she said during the call and failed to notice that she swapped our booking to garden instead of preferred. Truly my fault, I do remember her saying garden view, it just didn't register as 'not preferred' in my head.

We are only two weeks out, so I will fax in a request as suggested in these threads. I would like to know how you all would recommend asking for something as close as preferred. Would I have any shot at all and should I even mention the snafu in the room change? Thank you!

They play some newer movies in terms of their home-video release dates, but NOT new theatrical titles.

Wi-Fi can vary by room-by-room, not so much by building. They have access point repeaters every 5 rooms or so (?) so if you get a weak signal you might find it's better by moving just three doors down. I have noticed it has generally improved (in both connection reliability and speed) since they first installed the system though.

It can't do any harm to call back, even now, and see if there's anything else they can do for you - and certainly faxing 3-5 days out (when category changes are sometimes possible, depending on booking levels) to explain what happened would be an excellent idea.

I found the WiFi really sucked actually. Basic web browsing good. But Video uploading, watching videos online, streaming wife's favorite videos in through my computer to the TV not good at all. There is also a maximum number of connections their can be and apparently while there I ran into that issue 5-7 times. So that's is why I suggest prepaid hot-spots or using the hot-spot on your phone. I use my iPhone 5S hot-spot and share it with iPads, computer, and other phones secured of course and it does a heck of a lot better than POR's WiFi.

We are leaving for Disney in 10 days and I was going to fax a request asking for Oak Manor but I see the roof is still being refurbished. Should I request another building? How disruptive is the work? I was going to request Oak Manor as it's the building closest to the transportation. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Well you can always request Parterre and ask to be in the section closest to the foot bridge to the main building. That would put you in the area closest to that and the East Depot which is the closest bus depot besides the preferable South Depot (Main Building's Bus Depot) which I never have a problem getting on a bus there.
