Port Orleans Riverside Q&A Thread 2013, Part Two [Thread now FULL and closed]

Our TA booked a River View room with a request for the Magnolia Bend mansion buildings (preferably Magnolia Terrace) and I am hoping that since we're going during a "quieter" week (we will be there 11/11 - 11/17) that our request will be fulfilled.
Any suggestions on how to push the odds in our favor?

Just read through the first post in this thread about making requests and faxing the resort just before you go, there are some links there too which will help.

hey guys, wonder if any knows the reason, or even noticed this ...

I just thought it was weird that Riverside would jump the rates on Kings so much but FQ didn't.

Yup, I noticed it, and posted about the King Room anomalies a few days ago, look back a few messages in this thread (sometime just after 10 July when the rates were first released). I even posted a graph of the rate structure, and posted a similar message in the POFQ thread too.

We will be heading to POR on August 13th. Due to the timing and discounts, we have a split reservation. 13th to 15th package at POR and then 15th to 21st room only at POR. Both garden view because that was the only available on the discount. We did online check in for the first part of our stay and I called and asked them to link the two reservations together in the hopes that we won't have to change rooms. When i called, the CM acted like i was crazy for making the request as she implied it was a given. I asked that she please note it as a request anyway and she begrudgingly did (i hope!). Here are my questions...

Should I do online check in for the second stay or would that complicate things?

Should I send a fax prior stating that we have the two reservations and hope to stay in the same room? I would do this without asking except that we will be without a fax for two weeks prior so I will have to make a pretty decent effort to do this. No big deal. Just want to be sure it is important enough.

Thanks for any help! I can't wait!

Just found out today that DD broke 3 bones in her foot.

She is in a cast and not allowed to put any weight on it. Will be this way for approximately 6 weeks. I leave for Disney in approximately 7 weeks. Her orthopedic Dr, said the trip would be fine but would have to rent a wheelchair since that would be too much walking to soon.

Do yourself a HUGE favor and look at a knee scooter. We bought one on Ebay, since they are not covered by insurance, for my husband after foot surgery. The scooter means that there is practically no "cheating," i.e., "I'm just going to hop to the bathroom and balance on one foot." It's folding and fits great in the trunk of my Honda Civic. And you don't have to worry about nerve damage from crutches. :crazy2:

Dang that chart looks like a LOT of work, thanks Andre.

Not that there is a rush at all to decide, but its looking like just going with a standard view room with 2 Queens is going to be a better idea then a Single King...

The absolute hilarious irony here might end up being that, on our previous trips we have refused to share a room with my sister and my Niece, because we like our King bed !!!

But, we were already toying with the idea of splitting a room with them next time, just to help cut the cost of their trip, now looking at the King rates, I am thinking, heck, why not !? $700 cheaper then the King room and fit twice the number of people ? :P

This is an awesome device for someone with a foot Injury. A co-worker used this for 6 weeks following a surgery, worked wonderfully and truly kept her off of her foot. She got around our large office with no problem. I think this would work great at WDW. No need for someone to push a wheelchair

Thanks for the heads up on the knee scooter. It's funny the when I told the Dr about our trip, he said it was fine, but she had to use a wheelchair, because of the amount of walking so soon. He then said her a scooter. I thought he meant a ECV-- That would be a disaster---she is only 7 :rotfl2:

Although, she may be a better driver than some. I think maybe he meant the knee scooter. I will check it out to see if it is something, given her age be able to handle at Disney.

Thanks again

Hi All! We are 22 days from our return to the Magic. We are a family of 5 booked for AB and our TA requested buildings 16 or 17 for us if possible. A few months after we booked my Mom decided to join us and booked her own room at POR. The TA has linked our reservations and put in a request that we would love "connecting rooms" as I am sure my kids will love to go back and forth between our room and Gram's room. The TA informed me yesterday that she isn't sure how successful our request will be since we need AB as a party of five but my Mom is one person in a room. This was not conveyed to us earlier when my Mom added her booking (not that I feel it would have changed anything). I am wondering if anyone has any advice beyond keeping our fingers crossed? My Mom has some mobility issues and will be renting a scooter at the parks but we want to be sure we are close to her at the resort to help her as well. Thanks so much!

Can you move one of your kids to your mom's room so you don't require AB? Would your mom be ok with one kid bunking with her? That opens your possibilities for placement. The year my mom came with us, we were also a family of 5. Our kids took turns staying with gramma. We ended up with adjoining not connecting rooms.

Does anyone know when the RFID mugs will roll out at POR???

I don't really know Andre might though. I thought they had tossed that idea, because of all the negative feedback.

But My Opinion...

RFID Mugs, That's a stupid idea. I don't mind buying a new mug ever so often but not what they are trying to seem like they are enforcing a greedy role when Disney World gets Coke Products for free from what I hear.

First, read the FAQ in the first post and also www.portorleans.org/room-requests.php. That should tell you everything you need to know about how to fax in more detailed requests, but if anything isn't clear just let us know and we'll try to help.

The important first thing is to make sure your two reservations are linked in the Disney system so they will get flagged up for the room assignment team before you arrive (and don't worry about one room only having one person it, AB is big enough to allow smaller groups than five people to stay there too).

Has anyone heard about the status of Refrigerators being replaced at POR? We will be there August 18th and really need a Refrigerator.

I broke my leg when I was 7, right at the beginning of summer. I was a very active child and HATED crutches. They were so slow and hurt my armpits. I was constantly just hopping around. Finally, the Dr. suggested a knee scooter. I loved using it. It was actually kind of fun to get around that way. It really made a lousy situation better. I bet she would love it!

I don't know when they will be coming, but I'd guess within the next six months or so. Maybe I'll be able to find out more when I'm there next? It's coming to the Value resorts first anyway.

I tend to agree with Venom. While I know they want to stop mug abuse, this is a sledgehammer to crack a nut. We'll have RFID toothbrushes next!

And what about those people who genuinely have older refillable mugs which Disney sold as being good forever?

I also don't like the top-up limit that has been discussed - if I want to chug a long drink in one while standing at the dispenser, and then refill my mug to take back to the table with me, why should I be blocked from doing that?

Anyway, there's a whole thread on the subject here: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=3136664

All rooms in Oak Manor and Parterre are Royal guest rooms.

I wonder if they will say they are invalid since it is no longer officially Dixie Landings? There probably aren't that many people that still have them anyway.
