Port Orleans Riverside Q&A Thread 2013, Part Two [Thread now FULL and closed]

Thanks for the feedback.. the "too dark" reference was for the room itself.
We have stayed at the CBR a few years back and found the room quite dark inside.. then again, we stayed at the Movies resort last year and found that room to be great...

I think it's the luck of the draw.. I was just trying to pin lady luck a little more on my side...

Were you referring to the refurbed rooms at POR. I thought the royal rooms were a bit too dark and My fiance didn't like that they did away with the ceiling fan either.

Hi.. Was hoping I could get a quick reply as I need to confirm my booking to Disney tonight pre 8pm UK time.

So, here's my question.

I have booked a preferred room at the POR for May next year. I have requested a ground floor, courtyard view.
Questions:
1. Is this a good choice?
2. Could I be a little more precise and perhaps name building numbers? Any input which is the best?

Here are my criteria for a good room.
1. Location close to food hall and pool
2. A quite location away from lifts etc.
3. Somewhere where its not too dark

(copied from other thread you posted in)

Preferred room should be a pretty similar price to Pool View (varies slightly next year, but not by too much).

All four preferred buildings are nice and close to the main building, in the Alligator Bayou section (the buildings shown in blue in the map in the first post). All of the interior décor is the same in the preferred section rooms - see www.portorleans.org/alligator-bayou.php for details and a panoramic image. There are no lifts in that section, so no worries there. I should request a "quiet area with a pleasant garden view" and that should cover your needs (i.e. avoid a parking lot view). Oh, and the upper floor would more likely be a bit quieter and maybe lighter (assuming you don't have any mobility issues of course). Asking for an outside-facing corner room is a way to get an extra window too, and hence more light.

You can confirm your booking tonight anyway, and worry about any requests later once you've had more time to think about it, as they don't really matter until a few days before you arrive.

A different perspective on the bus situation:

We used the North Depot the week of Memorial Day, which had pretty high crowds. We left anywhere from an hour to a half hour before RD, and we NEVER had any of the mob situations others described at the South Depot. One day we had a full bus pass us for Epcot. The next Epcot bus was nearly full and didn't fit everyone. The next Epcot bus came about 30 seconds later and was empty. That day we waited 20 minutes for the bus. Every other time was five minutes or less. The buses always had room for everyone except that one time.

I only stood once, though I often put my 6yo on my lap to allow others to sit, and my husband gave up his seat about half the time.

We also used the POFQ trick leaving MK one evening. It was great!

I was pleasantly surprised at how well Disney transportation worked for us.

We don't usually take the bus since we have our car, but just in case, what is the POFQ trick?

If their line is significantly shorter, then take that bus and walk back to your POR room. We did it one night from MK as well and it seemed well worth it to us.

You take the MK bus back to POFQ and then walk on the trail from POFQ over to POR and then to your room.

You can also pick up the loop bus at the South depot if it is not too late for the internal buses to be running.

Thank you writing this down now! We are requesting a Royal Guest room at Oak Manor. Love your location. We will be going May 2014.

We loved it too! The view walking out each morning was so beautiful and at night with the colors in the fountain :goodvibes The nightly movies were in the courtyard right outside the room and we loved having the river view out the side window. It was a garden view room and the requests we made were top floor and close to the footbridge (and then I also requested a deep clean because I have allergies.)

I read another resort thread that POFQ washer/dryers now took credit/debit cards for payment, does anyone know if Riverside does as well? Thanks.

They do; they do not take the KTTW card.

They do? Thanks for the update, I thought it was only the POFQ laundry that had gone cashless, I was under the impression that the Riverside ones were still coin-operated. You've been there more recently than me though.

I had to use cash the second week of June.
ETA: I used the laundry room in between Parterre and Oak Manor.

Riverside still has the coins. FQ is a test at this moment, so nothing is happening at RS for now.

That is funny, because I gave my debit card to my traveling companion to do laundry during our stay - teen boys, I never had to do this. She is also a server and has a lot of jingle, as they say. She most likely used coins and I assumed she used my debit card.

I must hate when someone gives bad info, especially if it is me!!!

If the free dining rumors come true, we may have to do the room only reservation for 2 days and the free dining package for 5 if we are able to get it at POR. Does anyone have experience with this? Is there a good chance that we won't have to change rooms? I was thinking I would send a fax and have this as my only request-stay in the same room.

We have done this 3 times in order to get free dining and have only had to change rooms once. The best bet is to link the 2 reservations and then send a fax that you would like to stay in the same room. Then also mention it upon check in to see if your request was met. If it wasn't, you can ask to see if there's a way to make it happen.

We are planning a trip for Nov 15-24. I got a FD pin but could only use it for CSR :sad2: I REALLY want to stay at POR again. We loved it last trip. Now that there is a possible general public FD discount there is hope that they will open up some POR rooms and I can snag one. Hoping for pixiedust:

I had the opportunity of FD a few weeks back but I couldn't give up POR. I'm dedicated!
