Staying at POR beginning on Mother's Day in May with my family. Our plane lands at 2:15 pm and we are hoping to make it to Epcot that same day. How long does it take, on average, to get to the resort from airport, check-in, and take a bus to the Epcot?

I realize times can vary, just wondering what time I should expect to arive at Epcot so I can plan out the day. I'm hoping we could make it there by 4:30?

Thanks!

If you arrive on time, I think it would be safe to say you'll be there between 3:30 and 4 pm.

almost forgot we are concerned about what happened to venom. would really like to know .bugs don't bother me but I hate snakes sombody tell me it wasn't snakes in the room.if some one would let me know that would be great . we will be there may24-29

Brian, don't worry and have a wonderful trip. Im not sure what happened to Venom as I haven't been on this Thread in awhile, but I've had 4 trips to POR/FQ and all have been wonderful. From time to time stuff happens, and can at any resort. It's Florida and bugs, mildew, etc are a constant problem that WDW manages to keep under control 99% of the time. So don't worry.

What is the problem... someone lmk I will be there in 4 weeks. Is it bed bugs??:scared:

They have said repeatedly that it is NOT bed bugs. Please scroll back in the thread.

However, I have to agree with a PP. Just give us the short version and then you can take your time writing the trip report to elaborate.

It did not feel very Disney to us. We were in the farthest building, hated the long and boring walk after a long day in the park (the internal bus was not a quicker way to get around). The main pool was always packed whereas POR was not (May). The food court was not good and lacked a lot of the options POR has and always seemed more crowded. We experienced some very long bus times too...1 hour at times. The best thing about the Caribbean was the pirate room. POR in comparison never felt crowded and on the walks from our room to the food court were beautiful with flowers and other things to look at. The bus service was much quicker than the Caribbean but we had to stand more as the buses were more crowded. Overall POR to us is much nicer. Oh, I also love the quiet pools at POR (even better than the main pool). Also we really missed the relaxing boat ride to DTD and the buses from DTD to the Caribbean were almost non existent. Hope this helps.

I have to interject :goodvibes While we also view POR as our fav resort, we had a perfectly nice stay at CBR. We were in Jamaica, a great location next to the quiet pool. We use the quiet pools quite a bit, and the ones at CBR are very nice too. And thought the landscaping around the resort was beautiful. We had great bus service in the 10 nights we were there. And bonus, Jamaica was usually the first pick up. And i loved the beaches at CBR. So nice swaying in a hammock under a palm tree after a day in the parks.

So IMO CBR is a very nice resort too, we just happen to love POR a little more! :thumbsup2

Online Check-in question :)

Why should I do it? If I do do online check in, will I still be able to request a room via fax or will it be negated because I've already checked in?

I've heard that on-line check in will not let me be as specific with a request as the fax process so I'm thinking it's not worth doing.

He's just not ready yet, I assume.

I know perfectly well how much it takes to perfectly craft a "this is the rotten thing that happened, and here's what you should take from it and here's what you shouldn't" sort of message. He also said that he's dealing with work and POR. It's one thing to post really quick and send out a copy/paste PM to people; it's another thing to work on the whole story, whatever it is, and then commit to be here to respond to all the people who have questions, concerns, and questions and concerns based on skimming, etc etc.

We just had a mildewy time at SSR (room 1135!) where even the non-sensitives in our group were bothered by it. As part of the fix for that (which included moving, and they even offered up a Grand Villa, which we declined but in retrospect I wish we'd taken) we had to put charging on our room (otherwise you can't get the compensation which they will ONLY give as a room credit), and that process took two hours of my husband's well deserved vacation time, caused them to increase by half again the compensation and throw in two mugs, and in the end they had to cancel then rebook our room. With the problems, we went through 4 sets of tickets (for 8 people) for a 3 night stay.

But just saying it like that doesn't tell the whole story. Doesn't tell HOW bad the whole thing was, but also doesn't explain why I would be fine staying there in the future (hubby doesn't particularly want to at least until the computers are FIXED).

Venom probably just hasn't had the time to make his post perfect.

first timer here! Ok so we ordered the whole "they get our luggage and send it to our room" thing. Do we get luggage tags to put on our suitcases? How does it work exactly? Should I expect anything in the mail from our online reservation?

I wouldn't do online check in and in fact we didn't, as in my family. With what requests we had.

Right on the nose. I am busy with jumping back into work, dealing with POR back and fourth. On top of it all I am sick but this sick is sinus, cough and sore throat. So my first priority has been to my family and myself right now. So have had no time to start a report yet. But many do know a brief idea what went down and that is what I offered to few.

Yes, it's worthwhile doing. You can't enter any 'free-form' text requests into the form, just a couple of basic tickboxes, but your requests should ideally have been added in advance to your main booking so that won't really make any difference. After you have done online checkin, you are still free to send a fax 3-5 days out if you wish - if anything having done online checkin might help them, as they'll also be able to see your arrival details, etc.

The main benefits are: you can register your credit card and create a PIN number for all your key-to-the-world cards in advance; nothing to take up time at the front desk (your welcome pack, key-cards and room number will be put together a few hours before your stated arrival time, so it's all there waiting for you even if you are checking in quite late); when MagicBands are introduced, they will have been pre-made for you in your chosen colours and with your names on (otherwise you'll get generic grey ones set up at the front desk); you might even get 'Mobile Lobby' checkin service, where they can check you in using an iPad, rather than even needing to queue for the desk at all. The room assignment team suggest it too by the way, they say it generally speeds the whole process up for you.

The only downside I've heard anyone say is what happens if your requests have not been met and you want to change from the room you have been assigned? Well if that happens you're only in exactly the same situation as if you'd queued up for normal checkin anyway, you can still ask if there are any other options available and they can move you if one is found. And with the new RFID keycards they probably won't even need to print you new cards, they'll just re-assign the ones you've already been given.

So all-in-all, I can't really see any good reasons why not to do it. There are lots of plus, and no real negatives that I can see.

As long as you are based in the US, and assuming you have registered for the Magical Express airport transfer service, you will be sent yellow luggage tags in the mail. These tell the baggage handlers at Orlando airport to retrieve your bags from the flight and they are taken directly to the hotel and brought to your room (usually a little while after you arrive).

If you don't get the tags for any reason (we don't in the UK for example) you can still pick your bags off the carousel and give them to the Magical Express staff, who will then arrange for them to be sent to your room in the same way.

I registered online, but registered for the magical express with an agent on the phone. I'm Canadian, was someone going to tell me me don't get the tags? I reserved at the beginning of January, should I have the tags by now?

How far out is your trip? You won't get the yellow tags until 3-4 weeks before your trip.

Don't worry, USA and Canada are both included in the program, I should have said that. It's overseas/international flights which don't get the advanced luggage tags. If you gave all your flight info to the M.E. phone agent you should be fine, you'll get your pack in the post a few weeks to a month before you are due to fly.

I don't know whether you'll need to go through US Immigration at Orlando airport (I assume you do, unless you have an indirect flight) but if you do then you'll need to collect your bags to go through that process first, and then drop them off again into the baggage handling system before you take the monorail over to the main airport buildings. Don't worry, it's painless enough.
