Port Orleans Riverside - Just back....

I love the POR they have good food and IMO all the grounds are nice and the rooms are nice too. I thought it was relaxing and a great resort. (IMO)

Oh, don't get me wrong - It was very nice. I just didn't care for the look of our room. Can't say much about the food as we didn't eat there much.

Well I can only say this...

why can't other mods have trundles??? If they are the exact same sq footage then every mod room should be able to house a trundle bed. I am not clear as to why this is not the case.

Does anyone know the answer to this question?

We stayed in the AB section in March. I can say I was so impressed with the resort as a whole...and this Sept I requested Oak Manor...want to try out the mansion section. I can tell it is a different look and feel...but I guess we will try it and see, I highly doubt they will put a party of 2 in AB if they really do reserve those for parties of 5

OK, I have to get back to the AB/Mansion thing. Here's my feeling. I understand the Bayou rooms are used for families of 5 (which we are). However, Disney should change this. When you choose a resort, you're chosing one based on budget and theme that appeals to you. The 2 sections of Riverside are as different as night and day. They should be different resorts I think. I love the look and feel of AB, but didn't care for the mansions. If you request one section over the other, you should get it. If you book ASMovies, you get Movies. Not Sports.

I know what you mean. I love the AB section, but I don't like the mansion section. Last time we were put in the mansion section, I said lets try it. I didn't like the room and asked if we could be moved to the AB section and we were able to. We had a king room and a standard room for our party. They couldnt' get our rooms next to each other but a few doors down from each other which was okay. My mom even commented that she like the AB section much better.

How many beds are in MB?

Is there still a trundle?

We are staying in POR in November and I just assumed that we would be in AB. Maybe I should call back with a request.

We have dh & I, 6, 4, 3, & 1 year old with us.
Hoping for AB.

Isn't that a party of 6?

The infant does not count in the room total. You are allowed to have 5 plus an infant in AB. But will it be crowded.

Looking over the maps with the new smoking areas. Are they right at the quiet pool or just near by. It's hard to tell. The smell of smoke bothers my sinuses and I'm hoping it is not right a the quiet pool.

Yes. :cutie:

DH & I in one bed, 4 & 5 year old in the second bed, 3 year old in the trundle and baby in the portable crib.

We did the same thing last year.

I was just wondering how many beds are in the Mansion rooms.:wizard:

I hate that you didnt get the section that you requested. Seems like requests are denied more than they are granted...at least when requesting in advance.

Definitely ask in person next time. When we are at CBR and our waterview room was of a quiet pool, I politely called and told the front desk that I was really hoping for a true water view and they basically let me choose where we moved to =)

Hi! We are staying at POR in Sept. I was told that I would have the AB section due to the fact I have a party of 5. What do they do in the mansion side with a party of 5? Do they bring in a cot? Thanks in advance. Chris :confused3

I have stayed there before, but I never knew about the different types of rooms. Can someone explain a mansion versus the other rooms. Thanks

I thought AB was the only choice for five. We are considering this for next year, but I think it will be too squishy for us.

I'm curious too about how they switched a party of 5 to the Mansions? We are doing a grand gathering with 2 groups of 5 and wanted to stay in AB. We could not be comfortable in anything less! Would prefer bigger, but budget dictates and I love the atmosphere at POR.

There are 2 sections - Magnolia Bend and Alligator Bayou. Magnolia Bend is the mansion section. Rooms are a bit more formal looking. Alligator Bayou is another section where the buildings are more rustic looking. he rooms themselves are also more rustic, sort of Wilderness Lodge. If you look on allearsnet.com, they have pictures of both rooms.

BTW - The pics of the room they have on allearsnet for Oak Manor is the exact room we stayed in - 9412. Kind of cool.

how did you fit 5 in the mansion rooms? I thought they did not have trundles? I thought I read on your post that you had 5, id this correct? Thanks Chris.

If you're referring to me, 2 of our kids are 5 months old and slept in port-a-cribs. Our 6 year old slept in one bed and my wife and I slept in the other.

The buildings at Port Orleans Riverside (originally named Dixie Landings, incorporating the idea that you were along the river and bayous leading away from New Orleans) change as you go from from the main building (MB) counter-clockwise around the river.

The buildings nearest the MB are Aligator Bayou (AB), more rustic in styling, like you're further away from New Orleans up into the bayous.

The buildings further away ALONG THE RIVER WALKWAY are Mansions (M), more refined in styling, like fantasy huge plantation homes, like you're closer to New Orleans (and indeed you are closer to Port Orleans French Quarter -- originally named Port Orleans French Quarter).

What I find so fascinating, the transition isn't sudden between AB and M -- there's a gradual refinement in building styles and materials used and landscaping. POR is a really georgous resort and the theming is wonderful.

snip...

I don't think they realy assign rooms before you get there, at least this hasn't been my experience. The CM checking me in has always found my room for me, and usually took out the map to let me pick.

I think the key to getting what you want is to very politely say "Is it possible to get a room in . . ."

I have no idea whether they assign before, or not. You have a terrific point when you suggest a POLITE request. I also think the simpler and less complicated your request is, it probably helps.

I'm planning a split stay at Disney to have a Disney experience. I don't expect exact cookie cutter rooms like I would in a Hampton Inn or Embassy suites. Nice places to stay, but not Disney. I'm ok with being a little flexible to be on-site.

Our family really, Really, REALLY, liked POR. Our room was on the back side of Acadian Mansion, We had a fairly short walk to the bridge onto oLe man island. The thick landscape made you feel like you were away from everything. It was QUIET and RELAXING, as opposed to the massive crowds at the parks. I had wanted to stay in the AB section like many others on this post but... I cant complain.:cool1:

I've stayed at DxL/POR 4 times. I requested the mansions each time and each time I ended up in AB. Ya never know

I don't know the answer, but would like to. We stayed in CBR this past April, and LOVED it. My youngest (of 3) is turning 3 this year, so I can't ever stay there again :sad2: without doing two rooms (out of our budget!)

The CBR rooms are actually bigger than CSR or POR/POFQ. Not much, I think about 20 extra square feet, but this makes me think a trundle would work better at CBR :confused3

Is there someplace official I could suggest this??

A couple of years back, I had a split trip. My first few days were at POR and the next 5 days were DVC.
The portion at POR, I was travelling solo and I got AB, which I had requested.
I guess Disney loves me more. LOL
