Port Orleans Riverside FAQ thread - Royally Refurbished for 2011

A few people confirmed over on the Theme Parks and Stratgegies board that both POR and POFQ now have wifi.

One person commented that some of the outer buildings at POR are a bit iffy, but sounds like it just needs some tweaking.

A bit of info I picked up from another source indicates that the current wi-fi may only cover the lobby, entranceway, bus stops and main pool area (a service which is also launching at other WDW resorts) rather than full resort-wide in-room access just yet... We'll know soon enough anyway.

I do know it's definitely working in the main building now though. (Thanks! :thumbsup2)

We are currently in 3133& 3134 and it's working in both!

Venomhatch,
I noticed that for the last few years you have gone to Disney at the beginning of February. We have gone in late Jan/ early Feb and in 2010 we froze. I realize it was a very cold year that year and even in March, people froze that year. Since then, we go at the beginning of March but it causes problems for my kids in school because of testing. Can you tell me what your experiences have been weather wise the weeks you went? I don't like wearing sweatshirts the whole time or not being able to swim. TIA!!

Well we have had good luck with weather during our time frames. I mean maybe one or two nights it gets a little chilly and we have hoodies we wear with those nights. I always end up the family mule carrying all the jackets, supplies, trinkets, etc in my pack. So we have them when we need them. I won't say anything about rain because we have been fortunate. I'd say mid 70s during the day maybe a bit chilly in the evening, but not bad. We swim and usually wear t-shirts and shorts.

Florida winter weather is unpredictable, I live here. Check out the forecast before you leave, but be prepared for anything.

I am originally a Floridian by origin, born and spent a lot of my life there in Orlando. Yeah I do gree with you on it being unpredictable but so far I have been blessed with the times we go.

WI-FI is UP-N-RUNNING as I type this on my IPad from POR...bldg 36!!!!
All of our devices are finding it!

Excellent news, glad it's working for you. What SSID (wireless network name) are they using, so I can update all the details? I assume it is using simple Open security, rather than you needing a password or anything?

We are staying at POR from Jan 4-11. We are a group of 13 with 4 room reservations. I am going to send a fax the week before to request rooms close together, we also did this when we booked our rooms. I had originally requested either Oak or Magnolia but should I be worried about the work going on with the new royal rooms??

Faxes are no longer looked at, because the new computer system installed last year sorts them automatically. As long as they are on your reservations, they will be looked at. I suggest you NOT do online check-in with such a large group.

You can check Andre's schedule regarding working going on during your week. He has been keeping it up as people return and provide update info. They only close one building down at a time, so both buildings won't be closed. As well, the work on the royal rooms isn't scheduled to begin until after you leave, if they stay truly onschedule.

KCmike- beautiful as always! :thumbsup2

cab0899- I would phone reservations and request Magnolia Terrace or Acadian House, near quiet pool. The reason is that both buildings have just been refirbished, and that location near the quiet pool between the buildings puts you very close to the bridge over to Main Pool, and main building. Great location.
We had a new room in Acadian House in Aug, and they are really nice.
On your request have it noted the parties you are traveling with, and ask for the reservations to be linked.
I agree with Missytara to not do on-line check in, and they don't look at faxes anymore. You just have to phone reservations to have your requests added.
Then again at check in remind them that you are traveling with several parties.
