When I called in January to reserve our Military room for June, I also was told the only room available with military discount at POR was one of the Royal Rooms. I was just looking for a basic room and asked about availability at other moderates. The only other military room available was a Pirate room at Caribbean Beach. We decided to give the new rooms at POR a try.

We booked a couple of months ago for late August and it was the same, only the RGR was available with the military discount. I thought it seemed odd. I wasn't even wanting a RGR.
Yep, I thought the same thing.
We booked our dates back in August (we are a family of 5, so AB is for us), but I wanted to add a few days. They couldn't do it (and haven't been able to) and because of that, we are doing a split stay at Beach Club. I finally gave up last week.

We DO have the military discount on our POR stay, but again, I booked it in August of last year. I imagine the refurb of AB is partially the reason it is unavailable now, though.

You cannot do that. Your POP card deactivates the day of checkout. Best to wait til you get to POR. It has to be done at the concierge desk after check-in.

Wait a minnute now I'm confused I thought that park tickets are valid for 14 days after you use the first day.

We are staying at POP from Aug 19-24 we have water parks and more 5 day tickets for a total of 10 tickets. We then are off property from the 24-27 for Star Wars Celebration. After that we are staying at POR from Aug 27-Sept 1. We plan on using the rest of our 10 tickets during this stay.

Will we be able to do this or will our cards be deactivated? If we can't do this how would I use the rest of my tickets within the 14 days?

I had originally thought that, too, that you could use the ticket portion of your KTTW even if you had checked out of the room and couldn't use it as a room key anymore. I've seen posts on other threads regarding split stays that say otherwise. Good luck in getting a definite answer. :goodvibes

Ok, I booked our trip and did the Royal Guest Rooms in POR with a river or water view, I can't remember which one. Looking at my reservation it says...
Disney Resort Hotel Room Type: Fairway Villa

Is this correct? I don't know what that means. It's not a building name or location that I can figure out. :confused3

Doesn't sound right at all to me, I'd call back and get that checked.

According to the Disney Parks blog, all of the POR room renovations are set to be completed by June 2012.

The same post also states that "more than 500 rooms" have already been converted to Royal Guest Rooms, which isn't true either (256 have been done so far, the rest haven't even been started yet and are due around 13 April). I'd take some of that info with a pinch of 'old-press-release' salt.

Definately call back. Villas are only in DVC and fairway view is at SSR.

That is kinda funny.

Its driving me crazy, I'm stalking the thread waiting for pictures. We are traveling April 17-24 and I can't wait. I was wondering what the availability is for the week we r traveling, so I checked. The RR's are no longer listed but all the other rooms types are available. I also checked the week of the 14th sat-sat. I just hope Disney did not bite off more than they can chew getting the other building finished. Once the pictures come out everyone is going to want the RR rooms.

Believe me, when the Contractor did not meet the target date, they most likely got an earful. They won't miss a date again. Also, it will be a quicker process because they already have about 250 under their belt already.

The first ones are always the hardest. My guess, being in the business, they had issues with the fiberoptics.

I was thinking the same thing with the first delay. Something was backordered. I think once the pics are released forget it. It's going to be really hard to get one.

I feel like a kid "are we there yet" and my mother yelling NO!

I tell you what. I am an architect and I would love to meet the designers. If that were something you could do, like Lunch with an Imagineer, I would do it in a heartbeat. I would have to skip the spa, but it would be a once in a lifetime experience.

I picture a group sitting around with their sketchpads doodling away. The design of the faucets is just breathtaking. And whoever thought of the headboards was ingenious. I can picture someone laying in bed with their kids, turned the opposite way on the bed and suddenly coming up with that idea. I love managing projects now, but sometimes I miss the old days bouncing around ideas.

This year I won't be going to Disney and next year the group I am taking won't be able to afford it. My last solo trip was in 2010, so in 2014 I am going RR riverview.

This is our first trip back since 09 because of family wedding, and then we had our son. I wanted to wait until he was at least eating table food. Diapersin Disney I can deal with but bottles and jar food no way! I am starting to get really excited more than the kids. I think this time is so much worse because of the hype over the RR. We stayed in AKL in 09. I thought Bella waking up to the animals in the a.m would make her remember it more. Funny part is she talks more about being to short for the stitch ride.

I personally cannot wait for POR I love the style of the resort. I have always wanted to travel to new Orleans now I have the best of both worlds. Maybe our next trip will be to AoA for my son - Cars! Not sure if I could so a value though.

We are going to be staying in a Royal Room in July and can't wait to be there. But, I have been avoiding this thread as I don't want to see any pictures before we arrive. I want to be totally surprised by the magic! I may be the only one. Anyone else out there wanting to be surprised?

Just noticed we will be there on the same dates!!! Hope your surprise is wonderful!!!

Thankfully my e-mail confirmation shows RGR, Riverview. I guess I'll have to call; because that did look funny to me too. I've searched internet wide and can't figure out what that means. I'll report back when I have the info. From what I can find, I'll be in one of two plantation buildings.

I have to say, this is the first trip we have taken (in 20 trips) that I am MORE excited about where we are staying than the parks. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the parks, but I am SO EXCITED to stay in the RGR and explore and enjoy POR. :lovestruc I can't wait....52 more days!
