I know I've read this somewhere, but I just need a quick yes or a no.... So, are there toasters at the food court?

I was wondering what everyone thinks about getting a preferred compared to just putting in a request for a room. I know a request is just that a request and you take your chances, but we are not sure what to do. This is our first time staying at POR and we will be with another family, no little little kids. So we were wondering how far is it from the main building if we would request building 26 compared to a preferred room? We would like to be in a somewhat central location, but not completely away from everything. Any information you can provided is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

My pref is The Mansions. We like Acadian House or Magnolia Terrace, and put in a request for a location close to the bridge over to Old Man Island. This will put you close to main pool and a short walk around that will get you to food court and lobby. You will be close to the bus stops too at either the North or East Depot.

A little vent...

Already had my reservation made online. Called to add another room for my parents. These were my requests:
1) first floor because of wheelchair for my daughter and mother
2) connecting or nearby rooms
3) refurbed rooms
4) a recliner for my mom's room (this was listed as a choice on the special request for people with disabilities - she has heart trouble and can't sleep well lying down, so a recliner would be so helpful)

Well, CM proceeds to tell me...
1) first floor - okay
2) no connecting rooms, but should be nearby - okay
3) the refurbs are bedding only and no AB rooms are done yet, and only 16, 17 and 24 will be done by my arrival on May 20 - I tried to explain to him that this was incorrect, and he insisted that he had info directly from the resort that was updated daily and it was the only info that could be "confirmed" - yes, I know that he is wrong, wrong, wrong
4) he never ever heard of requesting a recliner and said the special request people hadn't either - I told him it was right their on the website, honestly I hadn't heard of it before either, but really it was there.

Taking a deep breath and will call back another time to confirm what requests were actually entered for our reservation.

Question to the board - anyone ever request a recliner before? I'll check over on the disability threads too, but thought I'd ask here.

Thanks for any helpful thoughts...:confused3

Boy was this CM misinformed wow! The refirbs are the total room. Everything was redone, top to bottom. We had a new room last Aug, in the mansion section- Acadian House.

It seems some of the newer CMs aren't very knowledgable and if this happens, just phone back to speak with someone else. Don't waste your breath arguing with him/her.

My oldest will graduate High School next year. I plan to devote all my available resources to help her through college and plus I have twins just starting H.S.. We will probably take little trips but unfortunately no Disney trips for awhile. Sad I know. The "band" trip was a complete surprise and we will have to get creative just to afford that one. We are excited about a return to the world though.

You should revisit Disneyland again. It is so much fun! Don't tell anyone but Disneyland is our favorite park. Hope I don't get burned for saying this on the WDW side of things. I still have a special place in my heart though for WDW and P.O. Riverside. WDW defintely has DL beat in resorts and food but not so much in parks. Just my two cents.

We will probably do Riverside again as its the most affordable for our party of five. I love the lush feel of Riverside and its scenic views.

Congrats! I have a daughter in college so know how that goes! My youngest.

I keep thinking I should make a trip down to DL, I haven't been since I lived in San Diego, and there was no Calif. Adventure
But my mom lives in Florida, in assisted living. So any vacay time I have it seems is used to go to see her, and of course fit in a WDW trip while there!!

I made my reservations yesterday and put down my $200 deposit. How do I know what room I got?

Leslie

Resorts/hotels are not like cruise lines where you can pick your cabin, because everyone gets on and off at the same time.

There are so many dynamics that could change between now and the time you arrive, there is no telling what room you will be in. All Disney guarantees is that you will get a room on property.

If you want to make requests, you can do so by calling CRO and adding them to your reservation. Make them short and concise, list them in order of importance and try not to list too many that they cannot fulfill them.

Go in with an open mind and you won't be disappointed. I have seen more than my fair share of people at the check-in desk who make multiple requests, and are not happy at all. It is a lousy way to start your vacation by having too many high expectations.

Instead of 26 I would request 16 or 17. Last June we were in 16 and it is the easiest walk to the food court and next to the quiet pool. and about the same walking time to South and west depots. We thought we would get the parking lot view(LOL - we never enjoy the view so it does not matter) but we got GV. I will request this again in 2013 when we go again but it is off to Myrtle Beach this June.

Yeah I agree. We stayed in building 14 and it was right there next to the food court, at least 16 or 17 you have quiet pool, laundry, and food court so close together.

How much are the refillable mugs these days?? Dh and I got them 5 years ago when we were there for a week. Trying to figure out if it will be worth it for our short visit coming up. We are not on dining plan, will likely eat 4 breakfasts at POR. Maybe 1 or 2 other quick meals.

Thanks

I can't post links yet but from the POR.org website

Refillable Mugs

All of the Walt Disney World resort food courts offer special refillable insulated mugs. These can be purchased for a one-off fee (currently $14.49 plus tax) and can then be refilled at the resort’s drinks fountain station as often as you like during your stay. For more information, please see the Refillable Mugs page.

Thanks! And would anyone by chance know how much a cup of coffee and/or regular size soda is? $14-15 seems high to me but I should run the numbers.

Oddly enough their site doesn't have drink prices listed, or at least I don't see it. I am guessing if you refill a couple time a day it will more than pay for itself.

I don't know the exact amount; I have had the dining plan for the last couple of years.

When you get there, inquire at the food court about the cost of a soda; I am sure it will pay for itself, even if for a few days.

Pondering POR for our next family trip. Can anyone tell me if the bridges to 'Ol Man Island has any steps? ODS has CP and is typically on wheels for anything more than a very short walk, was wondering if the bridges would be an issue. Thx :)

from looking at the pics from www.portorleans.org and from google maps it doesnt look like there are steps. Hopefully someone who's already been there can answer your question.

Your mug voucher is like a meal credit. When you redeem them they are simply scanned off your card. Very easy!!

We leave in 2 days and I have my packet. There was no voucher for the mug so it should be attached to the KTTW card like the dining. It was listed in the description of the dining portion.

Thank you both! Just wanted to make sure we wouldn't miss out on our mugs if we missed our Mickey Mail (our vacay actually begins a week before our actual Disney check-in). We've always had to purchase our mugs, so having them included in the dining plan was new (and awesome) to us. Thanks again! :goodvibes

There are no stairs on the bridges. I was there last year you will be fine.:goodvibes
