It's something fairly new I think. They did it during special events like Halloween in the past, but seem to be making it a more regular event now.

Currently it's Wed, Fri and Sat I believe, with this week's offerings being Bolt (Wed 25), Mulan (Fri 27) and Meet the Robinsons (Sat 28).

Not sure if it's just a trial or will continue.

Wow! Can people who are at POFQ in May, June, and July please update with info concerning movies at the pool?

A couple of years ago, we stayed at AS Music. The kids were excited about pool movies. I set aside a whole evening for us to lounge at the pool and watch a movie. Can you believe it rained buckets that night!? :headache: They showed the movie in the food court instead of at the pool, but it wasn't the same as floating in the pool while watching a movie. This would be a fun thing to do at POFQ!

Can anyone comment on the strength of the hair dryers? I have pretty thick, long hair, I'd like to not have to pack my dryer, but I usually have to.

You can not call the resort directly as there is no public number to use. The number given as the "resort" number is actually a call center. There they will answer the phone as the resort based off of what line it comes in on.

When you check in, make sure to mention you really need a King bed. If there are none available, you could ask if you could be moved the next day. If they can not do that due to bookings you can ask for a refund of the booking difference or ask about being moved to an equivalent room at another resort (aka King at another mod). Just be polite and patient while they work with you as I am sure the front desk CMs are just as frustrated about the situation as you are. They want their guests to be happy and something that is out of their hands is now causing issues.

Thank you for the advice. I was actually able to find a number online for the front desk at POFQ. The second time I called I explained the situation and the person I spoke with did not redirect me, but instead said he was making an extra note on my special request for a King and that I should call again 3 days out to confirm this extra special request (above and beyond just reserving online). Crossing my fingers.

Blow dryers are little ones and the are no help to my thick hair....glad I brought my own. Movie wasn't at the pool it was in the courtyard between building 5 & 6

We are here at POFQ now and they oversold the king beds. Wanted to switch us to SSR but I wasn't having it so they put us in a queen bed. Building 5 gorgeous room and the location is great. No longer serves taco salads so DH is bummed ha ha. POFQ is so quiet but we walked over to the POR and it is insane!! Just waiting for the boat to go back to our resort and the line is sooo long!

Question: did they refund the difference between Queen & King? I'd transfer to a Deluxe besides OKW & SSR (I don't see the appeal) but otherwise, I'd want to stay at POFQ. I'm fine with the Queen beds...really the only reason I booked King was because with the discount it was the only thing available. BUT I would be annoyed if I paid extra for the King and didn't get the difference back...

I think your best bet is to do online check in and list an earlier arrival time. WDW just has a tiny tiny percentage of king beds and even if you were willing to switch resorts I doubt they could find you one at that late hour. We reserved a king at AKL a few years ago and paid extra. We didn't get the king or a refund since our room was discounted. It was just a regular promotion like anyone gets. Honestly they were not even that apologetic and basically said it happened constantly.

Since I did not have a room discount (instead we have free dining), should I expect to at least be able to get the difference (about $125 total extra) for not getting the King bed I paid extra for if we end up with 2 queens?

Okay, I am going to try the 3pm check in with the online system instead of the original 9pm. Worth a shot.

Yes I was refunded the difference and when I asked if I could go to any other deluxe the answer was no, you can have SSR or take the queen beds. It was a no brainer for us as we do not like SSR.

Good to know! Thanks Nicki, enjoy the rest of your trip :goodvibes

Not being mean, but if you already are going to be "hard pressed to go back to Disney" because of something that hasn't even happened yet, then maybe you are going into this trip with the wrong attitude to begin with ;)

Okay, you're right. I was being overly dramatic. Honestly I don't plan on going back to Disney for several years anyway, but there are many vacation spots to choose from around the world, and Disney will not be at the top of my list if they don't honor my King bed request. It is something that is very important to me and I value places honoring their good customer service. Things like that do leave a bad taste in my mouth.

My husband is a big guy and I would like to be able to sleep in the same bed as him on a trip that we have scrimped and saved for. He was a teacher and got laid off, our area is flooded with unemployed certified teachers. My salary is about 25% less than it was before the recession hit. He now works as a store manager 60 hours/6 days a week and gets Thanksgiving Day, Christmas day, New Years Day and 7 days vacation each year. I would like my one week with him on vacation to be in the same bed. I don't think it is alot to ask.

I paid my trip in full back in November 2010 for our June 2011 trip. Out of the multiple hotels we've been to since we were married, only one has ever honored our King bed request. I am tired of it. You should be able to get what you pay for, especially at a place that prides themselves in customer service and the overall experience. I usually have to fight tooth and nail with (non-Disney) hotel managers just to get the difference in price back. I can't stand when hotels oversell their kings. They do it on purpose. I thought Disney would be different, I guess I was wrong. Still crossing my fingers but not holding my breath. I won't let it ruin my trip, but I will let it change my mind about my expectations for customer service at Disney. For the prices they charge I should get a king bed if I request one more than 6 months in advance.

Does anyone know if there are any special tricks or things I can do to make sure I have the best chance of actually getting my King Bed that I reserved for POFQ? I am worried when I hear about them being oversold.

The last time I stayed at a Holiday Inn they oversold the kings and my husband and I were stuck in a queen---he is a big guy so this is not comfortable for us. I was hoping that because Disney is so "magical" that they wouldn't be the type to oversell their King beds, but it sounds like they are anyway.

Our flight to Orlando comes in late and we won't be at the hotel until after 9pm on our check in day. Does that mean they will probably have already given out all the King beds for the day? I know they will refund me the difference if we end up in a room with 2 queen beds, but it would really disturb our whole stay since we don't comfortably fit together in a queen. I will be very disappointed to spend all this money and then have to sleep in separate beds.

I tried calling POFQ directly and asked to make a confirmation for my reservation, but they just redirected me to an automated reservation line. Is there a way I can call again and insist that we need the King Bed we reserved? Can I have them make an extra note about needing one due to size limits, or is there still a good chance our King bed will be given away to an earlier arriving guest?

Thanks for your help. I am so frustrated that I am having to worry about something like this when all the other details are taken care of.

I completely understand your worry! My husband is 6'5" (and a really floppy sleeper) and I am 5'9" so sharing a queen bed is not really comfortable for us. I can tell you, sorry to say, that in our 9+ trips to Disney we have always requested a King and have NEVER received one (even with special notes about our height.) This results in us often sleeping in separate beds, but whether we're in separate beds or sharing, we're normally SO exhausted that it's not the worst thing in the world. We are in Disney after all :goodvibes

Andre, do you think that they will also be having this at POR? My DDs would be over the top if they added this! This trip to POR is a surprise and anything else that comes with it, is just added Pixie Dust!!!

I've not heard anything (not sure quite where they could do it to be honest) but don't forget that POFQ is only a ten minute walk down the river. You could let the kids watch a movie while you take a swim or have a drink from the pool bar for example.

Typing from my I phone so forgive the typos, waiting for soarin so I can respond to your questions. Yes they had a movie on Friday night but I don't know what it was as they were setting it up as we left for dinner.

Could you let us know where they are doing this? I was assuming they were using the grassy courtyard area between buildings 5 and 4 (which they have used in the past for movies) but someone else mentioned reports of the screen being put up over the pool somehow?

Andre

I just booked our Disney Vacation at POFQ for Aug 28 - Sep 4 :cool1:  :cloud9: :cheer2:

I am sooooooo excited. Now to work on ADRs! :wizard:

I wasn't able to put in a room request at the time of booking. Should I just call the resort directly or try to add it or should I add it on online? I couldn't find a place on my reservation for room reqests (once I got my confirmation number). Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

During our visit a couple of weeks ago...the Movies were set up on the grassy area between building 5 and 6.

Congratulations! pixiedust:

Yes, call and add your room requests but you won't get anyone at the resort when you do, it's a central reservations number. Good luck! I've always gotten at least two of my three requests at POFQ.

Morning from the POFQ! Movies are set u on the grass between building 5 & 6
