You will definitely get a room in Alligator Bayou if you book a preferred room, have five people in your party, or three people in a king room.
You will definitely get a room in the Mansion section of you book a Royal room.

Otherwise, you can request which area you want and they might give it to you.

You can request a section, though there is no guarantee. If you have 5 people as a PP stated you'll get Alligator Bayou. We always request mansions and its always been granted, but there's 2 people in our party so I think that helps.

I would book Preferred. That way you are sure to have AB and you will be in the most convenient area of POR.

It's a matter of opinion. I'm considering staying and think the Mansions are much prettier, and don't like the look of AB, so I would only book a Royal Room to guarantee a stay at Mansions (& enjoy the Royal Room's extra magic). I'm very into ambiance and Disney magic, though, which many are not (or they just might prefer AB's ambiance & find that more magical). To each his own.

We love the mansions I agree with PP that its all personal preference. We don't care for AB and wouldn't be as happy if placed there. The theming isn't as much to our liking. But, we've never had a problem getting the mansions.

You'll find differing opinions on this...I'm in the Aligator Bayou crowd. The lush, relaxed feel appeals to me more. I have booked preffered for two reasons. 1. I'm guaranteed Aligator Bayou and 2. Preffered is closest to all amenities.
