We are going in November and will be spending a day or two before and after the cruise at a Disney resort. We don't want to wait for the bus to pick us up at the resort and planned on getting back to the airport in the morning to catch a bus to port. I'm starting to think it might be more convenient and cost effective to hire a car service. Anyone do this with small kids that need to rent the car seats? We have 2 adults and 2 kids!

We didn't want to wait at the resort for a bus either since we wake up early. What we did, is take the Magical Express (free) to the airport early saying we had a 11:00 ish flight, and then were on one of the first buses out of the airport. It was much better for us to wait at the port. We were so excited.

That's what I'm thinking we will do too! I want to scope out prices on some other options also to see if it's close to the same cost for a car over the bus but we'll see! We did the resort to port last time and I was so anxious all morning waiting to get to the ship and bummed when we got on the boat as almost some of the last!

So do you carry your luggage to the airport and transfer it to the DCL there? I have done the DCL from resort several times and it is super convenient. Initially we hated the idea of showing up to the ship after 1pm, but we actually grew to accept it. It is better than the idea of taking luggage all the way back to the airport and then transferring. I'm curious how much of a pain that is.

We looked at shuttle services and it seems you can break even around 4 or 5 people compared to DCL bus. The biggest issue was a vehicle big enough to carry that much luggage. A town car isn't going to work for a family of 4 or more. There are numerous options, though, so just search online a bit. It is a trade-off between price and convenience, just like everything else with Disney. I have seen Meers at the port with big vans, so I bet you can probably get into one of those and get to the port really early.

Yes, you have to manage your own bags from your resort to the Magical Express bus, and then (once at the airport) from the ME bus to the DCL transfer desk. There you will turn it over to them and the next time you see it will be onboard.
