Right now I have reservations for POR standard room booked thru the gp deal. I can get a garden view room at the passholder discount rate for $9 less. Is it worth the hassle to call? How much better is a garden view room? Thanks!

That's $9 you can use to buy Beigenets at FQ!

Sent from my HTC HERO CM7.1 using the DISBoards App

I wouldn't call - the standard rooms are great and you can use that $9 on something else.

Am I reading this right? You can get a better room for less? Yes, I would without a doubt call.

Yes, I can get a better category room for less, but I am just wondering what the difference is. Exactly what is the difference? I'm not sure of what the different categories mean at POR. How much better is a garden view?

Now that I type this out I realize it sounds crazy....who wouldn't want a better room for less??!! LOL However after spending an hour on the phone last night getting it switched from VWL to POR I'm not all that excited to call back! lol

*edited to add: the passholder site was down last night, that's why we didn't do it at the same time. She told me that the gp and the passholder rates were basically the same so it shouldn't matter.... but then when I checked this morning I see that the passholder rate is the garden view

Standard view will pretty much give you a parking lot or undesirable view. Garden view will give you foliage, grass, and fountains. Check the beginning of the POR thread for more info.

Have they released Passholder rates for 2013? I'm not seeing that listed anywhere. Where can I find this?

Thanks!

i would call but then again i have nothing but time on my hands and a better view plus $9 is pretty awesome.

I think garden view is worth it over standard view. You experience the resort a little more if you have the garden view.

I will always pay for a better view at a deluxe. At a mod, not so much. With the curtains closed, there is absolutely no difference to the rooms. With the curtains open, everybody and their granny can look into your room, since the windows open onto the public walkways. So you reap the benefit of your more expensive room for about 30 seconds every time you come in or go out the door. :confused3 JMO.

I agree with your thoughts on mods. If I were to upgrade it would be for a preferred building location.

However, the OP said it's less expensive to take the garden view room, so I would jump on it.

Right! I would call for that upgrade for less money in a minute. :thumbsup2

I would do it even if you had to pay $9. We had a garden view room in Alligator Bayou. We were in building 26 and had a great view of the foliage and other buildings. We were in the middle of the resort, surrounded by the theming and felt like we were inside the "Disney Bubble." On our last night we stayed in a standard view Royal Room. Not only did we have a parking lot view which was less magical, but since our room was on back side of the building it was farther away. We would have been unhappy with that room for our entire trip.

Tarheel Girl 1975 just hit on exactly what I was going to say... Since the standard rooms often face the parking lot, they do tend to be in the backs of the buildings which may be further away. So in my mind it has less to do with view and more about possible location. Of course you never know what location you may end up in but I think Garden View could possibly end you up in a better location.

^^This. We had a waterview room at POR and while it was nice to have the quiet pool at our front door, the only time we seen it was when we were either leaving, coming, or actually going to the pool. Other than that, we could have had a standard view. But I would have upgraded to a preferred room but that was sold out. And we had a long walk to the food court.

I'd phone and switch. As everyone said, standard view is in back of buildings looking Out at parking lots. On the other hand you'd be closer to bus stops, lol.

How did you get AP rate? I've been checking the pass holder page on wdw website daily, and only see discounts thru Dec.

Having been to POR last year I remember telling my dh that if I was looking at the parking lot I would not be happy at all. I guess we had a garden view although I don't think that was a category I could choose at the time I booked. We were in 37 facing in towards resort...not the p lot.

As others have said, standard view is basically a parking lot view. There are multiple rooms at POR who's entrances are at the edge of the grounds with parking spots outside their doors. That being said, we always book standard room because we don't care about the view and have always been given a room that over looks the fountain, which I probably would have considered a courtyard view or garden view. The parking lot was in the distance but we weren't on top of it. If you get a chance to call, I would do it, but if you forget or don't have the time, not a huge difference IMO.
