POR vs. POFQ - is there a preference?

Hi there -
I have booked POR for the first time and I am wondering if there are any opinions on the differences between the two resorts (POR & POFQ.)

I will be traveling with 2 boys (10 & 2) and I booked POR because it looks like the activity pool (with slide) is at POR? Perhaps I am mistaken, is there also one at POFQ?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks! Sheryl

Mainly the styling. POFQ looks like a clean stylized version of the FQ in New Orleans. BELEIVE ME THE REAL FQ IS NEVER THAT CLEAN OR QUIET. and the POR looks more like a down south plantation idea with manor houses and such.

I have not been there to stay yet but being from louisiana it will be neat to see how Disney interprets my home state!

POR is quieter, more peaceful and relaxed than POFQ.
While they both have food courts, only POR also has a full service restaurant for a buffet breakfast, if you like a big breakfast.

I've stayed at both and loved both! We stayed in the mansion section of POR- truely beautiful!!! Both food courts are about the same to me- except POFQ has beingets!
We prefer POFQ becuase:
1. smaller- not a far walk to anything from any room
2. buses- the two resorts share buses and POFQ is the first picked up and the first dropped off- will have a better chance of getting a seat on the way to the parks
3. beingets!!! :p
You can't go wrong either way. POR does have a sit-down restaurant and POFQ doesn't, but this isn't a problem for my family. Good luck deciding! Both are beautiful!

POFQ also has a pool with a slide. It's the pool with the dragon/sea serpent slide. Hope this helps.

recently returned from POFQ -- have stayed at POR in the past (as DXL).

Either resort would be wonderful. Of course YMMV. I think the biggest drawbacks to POFQ are: No sit down restaurant and no remarkable lounge. But these things are unimportant to me.

Another consideration: Bike & boat rental at POR only.

But POR is only a few steps away from POFQ.

Both are absolutely wonderful resorts!

Just stayed at FQ over this past wknd and loved it! The bus service was great! Didn't wait more than 5mins tops at all the entire wknd - coming or going to a park. And FQ IS the first to be picked up and dropped off;) We just had a stnd room and were in bldng.1 which is one of the furthest rooms as far as walking distance and it was still very close to everything -- you cannot go wrong no matter what you book as far as walking time goes. Both POR-R and FQ have a main pool with a slide. At POR-R they have the Ol'Man Island pool - kind of themed like a scene out of "Tom sawyer/Huck finn" your boys would love it! The FQ pool is themed with a big sea serpent and cute alligators playing musical instruments. My ds loved it - he's almost 4. You can use either pool no matter which you stay at as they are sister resorts. POR-R has lots of quiet pools too through out.

Check out this link http://allearsnet.com/acc/fac_hot.htm#moderate

you can look at pictures of both the resorts and get info. on them ;)

Have fun! You can't go wrong with either one:wave:

Please let us know which one you decide to stay at!!
P.S. One more vote here for French Quarter. So quaint, the music is wonderful, jazzy!! I love it there!!:p

Thats a tough call! We had always stayed at POR since it opened (back when it was called Disxie Landings). This past trip we chose POFQ and I wasn't expecting to love it as much as I did. It will be hard for us to choose next time which to stay at. I think I like POFQ a little better. Its so quaint!

Although I wanted to stay at the newly renovated POFQ, I chose POR again because we really enjoyed the quiet pools.

Boatwrights at POR, is great. They have banana stuffed french toast, YUMMY!

I cant wait to be there in 6 days! I will definitely be checking out FQ this time! Gotta have those beingets!!

Someone posted that POR was quieter than POFQ brought up a memory of our stay at POR, or Dixie Landings at the time, in the mid 90s. We had a room in the mansions, at about 2 in the morning this family comes in the room next to ours and its party time. They are laughing, yelling, turn on the TV loud and kids are bouncing on the beds, they just act like there is no one else in the building. After about 20 minutes of this we call the front desk and someone comes to their room and things quiet down. Luckily that was our only night in that room with those neighbors.

POR rooms in Alligator Bayou have trundle beds. You may be charged extra if someone uses the bed though...

Update - I missed our deposit date for POR, so when I realized it I called and the water view rooms at POR were gone. :(
So we are now at POFQ! They had water rooms available!
Odd, because they were sold out when I called initially. Perhaps the same happened to someone else. So if I took your water view POFQ room - sorry!

We are really looking forward to our new adventure at PO & I appreciate all of your feedback!

We love POFQ, never stayed at Riverside.

We stayed there many times and my son loved the pool when he was smaller. He is now in college and still wants to go to WDW with mom and dad.... So the pool is not as much an issue now, but we love the small size of the resort in general. We had to stay at WL last year because of the renovations. WL is a small resort as well. But for a moderate, we love POFQ the best.

Usually, the bus service is really good. Most of the cast members there are very friendly as well. The food court is good. The cook will even fix special orders if asked. One year they discontinued the red beans and rice, but they made me some anyway.

We will be there in July...:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

1. Generally has the 1st bus stop to the parks.
2. Nice pool with dragon slide that your kids will like.
3. Rooms are newly renovated.

I think you'll have a good time. POR is adjacent to POFQ, and you can walk or take a boat between the resorts.

How long of a walk is it between POR and FQ?

Great question, we were just going over the resort maps and wondered how long of a walk it could be between Riverside & FQ.

Can't wait!!!

Are the carriage rides at the riverside only? so you would have to walk over there? the boat to downtown disney is at the french quarter right? is their a playground at the french quarter? tia.

we stayed at the riverside back in 2002 and my daughter did love the water area and playground. it was quiet. we did have a far walk to the pool area though. I dont recall having to stop at the french quarter since I think it was closed at the time. We are now trying the french quarter in July. the pool looks like the kids would really enjoy it. ::MickeyMo
