POR vs FW

I will be finalizing our May 2019 trip plans tonight, and I need some advice on our resort. I have booked a pool view royal guest room at Port Orleans Riverside AND a cabin at Fort Wilderness for May 7-10. I have a golf cart booked for Fort Wilderness, as well. I am torn between these two resorts and I desperately need help to sway me one way or the other.
Our trip is May 4-11, family of four (children are 4 and 11). We are staying DVC May 4-7 at Animal Kingdom Lodge-Kidani and May 10-11 at Boulder Ridge. This is our first trip to Disney, and we will be visiting Magic Kingdom on Sunday, May 5 and Tuesday, May 7, as well as Epcot on Wednesday, May 8. The remainder of our time will be spent in the pool at the resorts, mini golf, Disney Springs, and possibly a half day at one of the water parks. We have never been to Disney, so the planning process has been exciting and overwhelming at the same time. I truly appreciate any advice!

I went with Fort Wilderness. I feel like the opportunity for quiet time outside of the parks will be nice for our family. We have 3 1/2 days total outside of the parks, so it will give us time to really enjoy the amenities at our resorts. Although I was sad to see the royal guest room go at Port Orleans Riverside, I think it was the best choice to go with the Fort.

I think you'll love FW! It's our absolute favorite, it's so nice to have quiet time away from the parks, and my kids love all the things there are to do there!

I’ve stayed at both and love both for different reasons! I think you’ll enjoy having the space in the cabins. We found them to be very quiet and peaceful. Stop in at Crockett’s Tavern! One of our favorites! And you can always hop on a boat to MK or explore the resorts on the monorail loop! Hope you have a great time!
