Which would you choose and why??? Is there a big difference between the two?? Our party will be me and dh, our 2 boys (8 and 4) and MIL (60ish).

Also, is there a building, area, room, ect. that you would recommend that we request???

Thanks!!

I have to say, if you ask for a "waterview", you may be disappointed. All rooms are a fair distance away from the Sassagoula River, and your view would be from inside your room or the outside walkway/corridors. I always stay standard at POR, and ask for a corner, garden (no parking lot) view. Never been disappointed yet.

I've stayed in Building 14, 18 and 38, all on the AB side. All were great, but I prefer Building 18 (FYI: used to be smoking optional but I never smelled anything): it's the second building on the river walk and has the quiet pool right behind. It was close to the food court, buses and Ol'Man Island.

Have a great stay!

Since there aren't balconies in the rooms, the view is fairly inconsequential. I wouldn't pay extra for it, but I wouldn't turn it down in an upgrade, either.

I always pay for waterview, just to be sure that I dont get stuck in a parking lot view room.

Just back from POR, we were in AB section, building 39. We had a garden view, no parking lot. I would not pay extra for waterview.

does any one know which building/room I might request if I am staying in the Mansions section? I would like a corner room on the third floor, that much I know. We are paying for King bed? Anyone know of a room like this?
so far my only request is mansions section. should I call and add corner room , third floor or just wait for check in?

any help very appreciated.

Have stayed in both types of rooms: standard and waterview at POR and really IMHO there was no difference betwwen the two. We were at the parks for the most part and did not sit in the room.

I've seen pictures of various views at the POR, and I honestly would stick with the standard room. If you go with the water view room there is a good chance that your "water view" will be a distant glimpse of light off the Sassagoula River. Plus, you would be looking at the "water" through the outdoor corridor. However, if you choose to go with the standard room, request a garden view. :)

We have stayed in 14, 16 and 39 and we always book a standard room. We have never gotten a parking lot view and this summer we had a great corner room in 14 that had a great view of the river. I could sit at the table and had a great view while I ate breakfast. Our friends were in building 18 and were very happy there.

We get the water view room only because I don't want to look at a parking lot. We had a quiet pool location last year and loved it so much we requested it again this year. Por is a beautiful resort!

I booked water view. We will be in AB section as 5 of us, and last time we stayed there we had a corner room building 14 that looked towards the parking lot. I really hate parking lot views and do not want to open my door on a morning to see rows of cars:snooty: ;) ;)

I wouldn't pay extra for the water view. Hardly ever are you looking out the window, in fact most often our shades are drawn. Remember you don't have a private balcony, you see people walking past your room when you are looking out the window. I would pay for the view staying at a deluxe, only because it is a private space and you don't have to worry about people looking in.

I'd always pay for a water view room - not for the view but for the proximity of the pools.

We paid for a waterview room when we went to POR two years ago.

We actually had a pool view rather than a river view and I was initially disappointed the the "view" was really a glimpse of one of the quieter pools provided that you stood at the window (you certainly couldn't see it from anywhere else inside the room), looked across the walkway, over the wall, over the grass, over a hedge and over some more grass. I think there was a fence involved somewhere too!

I vowed at the time never to pay extra for a water view room again.

Last year, we returned to POR, this time without the water view upgrade.

We had a garden view which, again could only be seen if you stood at the window. In this respect, I didn't miss a water "view" at all.

What I did miss though was being able to open the room door, stroll a few yards and be beside the pool. Instead, we had to gather up towels, sun cream, sun glasses, book, wallet, camera, drink etc etc etc and walk half a mile (or so it felt) to the nearest pool.

This year, we've paid for a water view - not for the view but to be close to a pool for those early morning and post-park dips.

As previous posters have said, you actually see very little from your room, wherever it is.

If you have the blinds open, everyone walking past can see you (not good for their health if I've just stepped naked from the shower - lesser things have blinded men!).

If you're laid on the bed (and chosen to risk the blinds open) you can see the sky.

If you're pretty much anywhere in the room other than at the window, you can see the wall of the walkway outside the room.

If you're not fussed about being close to a quiet pool then don't bother with the upgrade. Save your money and buy more Mickey Ice Creams!

We paid for a waterview once and will never do it again. Our "waterview" consisted of our room facing one of the quiet pools but you couldn't see it because we were on the ground level and there were a ton of trees and shrubs between the building and room. It really wasn't it for what we got, but some people must really like that type of "view" because WDW charges more for it. :) We've never had a bad room at POR and the overall resort is beautiful.

I will never again pay for water view.
I have one word for you - rip off.

I paid in 2005 - we ended up listening to screaming pool goers all night.

No thank you.
