Im running the WDW marathon, and right now, my mom and I (66 and 39) are staying at BWI. I am pondering switching to POR in a Royal room, and adding a night, the cost would be significantly lower plus an extra night... I have stayed at the Y&B and BCV many many times, so i know the deal at the Epcot resorts.
What I'm wondering is if we stay at POR, and if I go to sleep early the 2 nights before the race, is it easy enough for mom to sit outside if she wants to at POR? (im a deluxe snob here, but wanting to try the mods, why not?)
the main reason (other than location....) that we are currently staying at BWI is so that Mom will have a balcony...
thoughts?

The moderate resort rooms open to a walkway. She can pull one of the chairs outside and sit there, but she'll have people walking past her from time to time.

If she wants to wander a little farther, there are also benches along the paths between buildings, and she could also hang out at the main building, in the lobby, food court or lounge.

My DH often sat outside our RR door and watched movies on his laptop while the kids were going to bed. He sat right down on the walkway and leaned against the building. Our floor was pretty empty during our stay though.

As mentioned, it's an outside walkway, not quite the same as having a balcony. But POR has some nice areas as mentioned to sit along the river, the gazebo by Magnolia terrace is nice. And there's River Roost lounge that has a fun entertainer some evenings.

If you're not too far from Old Man Island, there are some tables at Muddy Rivers that are a good place to sit.

POR is where we always choose to stay. We usually pull the 2 chairs from the room out onto the walkway and relax with a cocktail while the kids are going to sleep. Not quite as nice as a balcony....but it works!

I love the walkways around POR. I'll grab a cup of coffee from the food court then sit at one of the many benches along the river. So nice & relaxing!
