I will be staying at POR FQ for the first time in October. I have heard so many references when talking about POR. Help me straighten this out. How is POR related to FQ and Riverside? I have heard people speak of Mansion, Magnolia Bend Aligator Bayou. How are these related to POR? Thanks!

There is the POFQ which is where you are. It is designed to look like the French Quarter in New Orleans. It is it's own hotel.

Then there is POR (formerly Dixie Landings) which is now PO Riverside and it is another hotel. It has two sections. The Mansion side which is supposed to be more like the parishes and then there is the Alligator Bayou side which is supposed to represent the Bayou, upriver communities.

Magnolia Bend is one of the buildings in the Mansion side, each building has it's own name. If you pull up the map you will be able to see how it is layed out. They are sister hotels so you can use the amenities at either.

If you go to this link you can click on photos for each and it really breaks down the different sections http://allearsnet.com/acc/faq_hot.htm

OK. That makes sense now. Thank you

Also, although they are two separate resorts, they are "sister resorts" and you can use the facilities and both. There is no sit-down restaurant at POFQ anymore. The walk between the two is about a half-mile, the sidewalk goes along the river and it is a very nice walk. You can also take the bus or the boat.

Not to start anything here, but I did love when POR/Riverside was called Dixie Landings. It sounded so much cuter and there was less confusion as to where the heck you were.

*who will always think of it as Dixie Landings anyway*

LOL! I had to laugh! My kids look at me like I'm nuts when I call it the Wed Way People Mover, but I can't stop!

I wasn't happy when they changed the names of the longhouses at the Polynesian either.

Tink,

If you look at the controll panel as you board the "TTA" is says WED WAY PEOPLE MOVER right on it!

It is very easy to move inbetween both of the FQ and RS resorts as the walkway runs along the Sassagoula River (about an 8/10 minute walk). FQ has already completed its rehab and now RS is getting its rehab in sections as well (from what I understand, most of the mansion section has been completed and various parts of the bayou homes will be going through rehab in sections). The only sitdown restaurant between the 2 resorts is at RS and it is a very nice restaurant with excellent meals. Being from New Orleans, FQ and RS are excellent representations of areas that I live and work in but of course Disney's version is a lot cleaner. Have fun and a great stay.

I never understood the name change either - DH and I will always refer to it as POR - don't like the name change. (See my signature) and also hence my screen name.

Chalk it up to Political Correctness....... But changing a name did not harm the fun! When at Riverside - OAK MANOR, When at French Quater - Building 5! And DO NOT MISS BOB JACKSON!

We still call it Dixie Landings, and I couldn't even tell you the new name of the Wed Way. :earsgirl:

When I was at WDW in May, I was at the MK (I think) waiting for my bus back to POR. As I saw the bus coming around the turn, the lighted sign actually said Dixie Landings! So it's still programmed in there somewhere. :) But by the time the bus got to me it was back to Riverside.

Awww, thanks for letting me know. :) Sadly, the WED WAY PEOPLE MOVER will be closed for refurbishment when we visit in a few months. I will be sure to check this out on another trip, though.
:)

Dixiegirl, I sure can see why it will always be Dixie Landings for you too. :sunny:

You know, there's a short story in there somewhere. ;)
I read something on this board about a haunted WDW bus.
