POR needs rehab bad got upgrade to AKL

For other future vacationers thinking about staying at PO-R, I stayed at the Oak Manor from 1-6 Dec and the room was quite nice. Two of things I like to check first are the bathroom/shower grout and shower curtain. Both were very clean, sans mildew. I enjoyed my stay the whole time.

The only issue I had was the thin outside walls of my room. The first two nights, I woke up at around 11:30 PM due to a baby crying which lasted for about 10-15 minutes. It sounded as if the family was hanging around outside for a while before going inside their room. I hope the deluxe hotels have better sound proofing.

We were at POR from Dec 14-21. We stayed in Oak Manor and I had faxed 3 days in advance and got exactly what I asked for.

Check in was a breeze and our CM was great. He had a lot of fun with our 16 year old "young adult". I mentioned in passing to my DH that I liked the keys/passes alot better when they had the actual resort name. CM asked us to please stick around a few minutes after he finished checking us in. We said ok and he said really, just stay. After a couple of minutes he came back with a key/pass that was pink instead of blue. On it he had typed welcome to POR Norris family. Have a great time. We loved it and he shrugged it off, saying I just happen to know how to do it.

Our luggage handler CM was wonderful too, wondering if we were warm enough, giving us a tour and stopping to explain stuff like which depot to use and refillable cups. When we got to our room he noticed we didn't have a guide for the tv. We told him we don't watch tv at WDW, but he knew we would want the weather channel. He was back in about 2 minutes with the guide.

Our room did have a stain on the carpet by the door. Everything else was fine. The airconditioner things that sit outside every few feet do make a lot of noise and are distracting when taking a walk.

Bus service was fine, no long waits or crowds. Food Court fine as well.

Walking around this resort is beautiful and next time I will try AB.

I guess my whole point is the friendlyness of this resort more than made up for that little spot on my carpet. We have stayed at WL and I still like the moderates better. They feel less like a hotel with their beautiful grounds and we loved the boat ride to downtown Disney.

I think if you have POR booked you will enjoy it.

when we upgraded we had to pay $65 more for our whole stay. We could have had a savannah view but needed two rooms close together so we were near the pool which was fine with us. We could go right up from the bus using our key cards in doors that no one uses. I did like the POR landscaping an views but not our room I am sure other rooms are nice. It was not a pain moving because we really hadn't unpacked much.

I have never heard anything about Building 14 being "reserved" for anybody. I'm sure they place guests with special needs there because of the proximity of the parking lot. It's a large building and has a pretty good number of rooms. I've stayed at POR twice and was in Building 14 both times. Request it if you want it. 15 and 18 are also good locations.

I have never heard anything about Building 14 being "reserved" for anybody.

When they gave it to us, she mentioned that it is usually reserved for handicap, and people who have trouble walking long distances, but there were extra rooms not spoken for. I assumed that's more the bottom floor, since they have more ramps than the other buildings. and it did seem we saw a lot more wheelchairs there, than when we were in 18...and it is easier to get to the cafeteria and parking.

We did not mind packing up and moving that morning as a storm was passing through so we would have to wait anyway. I was sooo looking forward to POR. I guess they just have to spend sometime rehabbing the inside of the buildings. The landscape was wonderful at POR we did enjoy that and the food court clean and nice. I am sure every room is not bad we just had two that needed some work. all ended up great so we were not disappointed with disney

We stayed at POR in October (Acadian House) and I was very disappointed. The room was supposed to be non-smoking, but there was a smell of smoke in the room, there was a cigarette hole burned in one of the chairs, and the non-smoking sign had been removed from outside the door (you could see the glue where it had been). Also, one of the comforters had several large worn places (almost holes) in it. We've stayed at almost every resort and this is the only one I didn't like. It was only for 2 nights, so I didn't complain, but I probably wouldn't go back.

Just back from weekend 1/10- 1/13. Stayed at AB Bldg 36 and no problems. No mildew, no shabbiness on the linens/spreads/curtains. Clean carpets, springy beds. Like you I was worried about room condition but I had no concerns once I got to my room!
