Our first time to POR in the mansion bldg magnolia and our room was dirty there was a hole in the wall and the bed needed to be replaced. Needless to say we had to complain after no one could sleep. We were very pleased with our discussion with the manager he did offer to move us or replace the bed but not what we were looking for since it was sooo bad. We got an upgraded to AKL Loved the rest our stay it was simply magical. Had a great time seeing the animals. :Pinkbounc

I would stay at CBR but not POR again until they update the resort.

Wow!
Anyone have any reports of bad rooms at CSR so I can request it? haha.
That's great disneyjulie!

Hi disneyjulie,
We stayed at POR from Jan 1-4 and were originally supposed to stay there through the 8th, but couldn't take it anymore. We were in the AB section, all the way in building 25 and our drawers smelled like mildew. Busses were 45 min late sometimes and extremely crowded. Mind you, we are used to staying in the deluxe resorts. We did not feel any disney magic while at POR so we decided to upgrade to Beach Club. We complained to disney and they gave us the most beautiful room at BC (we could watch Illuminations from our balcony !!!:) :)
After we left POR, our vacation was magical.:)

I don't think we'll ever stay at POR again.

OH GREAT!!
We leave for POR next week-Jan 15. We had read all the good reports about the AB rooms so thats what we requested. Now we read that they need rehab. Hope some one assures me that we made the right decision.
When you upgraded, how much extra did it cost?(just in case)

We were at POR for 10 days over Thanksgiving. We have been going there since it opened, and were perfectly happy. We stayed in AB 27 this time. In the last 3 years we have also stayed in AB 14 and 15. No complaints!! Haven't stayed in the Mansions in a long time, so can't go there. The main pool should be closed for rehab during your stay, but there are plenty of quiet pools, if you can live without the slide. Do try to see Bob Jackson's show in the lounge. (Weds through Sunday) What else ya wanna know? Have fun.......

We stayed at both POR in the AB section and at AKL. We really enjoyed POR. Our room was great and we loved the AB section. The landscaping is absolutely beautiful. We also loved AKL. You have to remember one is a moderate and the other one is a deluxe resort. You do get what you pay for.

deannab,
POR is not a bad hotel. It is disney after all, but my fiancee and myself are used to staying at the deluxes. I missed having a balcony, a king bed, and either walking, going by monorail, or boat to a theme park. I really loved the rustic, outdoorsy feel to the AB rooms. Our building was really quiet and we slept well. The food court and restaurant was nice. We were also there during the holiday crowds, which made the transportation horrible. We waited 45 min. one evening for a bus to Epcot. After the wait, we didn't feel like going anymore.
We are annual passholders, so our rate was $86 with tax at POR and when we upgraded to beach club it was $188 with tax. It was a big price difference for the last three nights, but worth it for us.
If you stay at POR, you will still have a wonderful Disney stay, just don't expect a "deluxe" feel.
Feel free to ask me any other questions!:)

Hi there.. thats quite an adventure...

Was it a problem packing and moving and unpacking again?

What was your room like in AKL? Did you have savanna view?

>>^..^<<

Sorry to hear about your POR room. Congrats on the AKL upgrade!

We've stayed at POR at least 8 times and have never had a bad room. Stayed in the mansion once and AB the rest of the times. Most recent visit (Christmas - I wrote a review on my return) we were in AB Building 34. It was quiet, clean and relaxing!

We've also stayed at AKL and enjoyed this resort very much. The rooms are pretty small for deluxes and the resort doesn't have as many amenities as other deluxes, but it is fabulously done. Don't think I have to stay there again, but I sure am glad I did. The savannah is worth at least one night's stay for me!

As for us, we will continue to go to POR, while enjoying other resorts too. POR is our 2nd home! :p

Wow, we were at POR Thanksgiving Week in AB Lodge 25, Room 2526 and didn't have a problem. Now the carpet was a little worn but the room was clean and housekeeping did a great job. We were very pleased.

Bus service was good and the walk to the lobby was lovely. It might be a little long for some folk but we didn't mind.

If we ever go again, we will probably choose POR. We like the laid back out doorsy feel that it has. We went and looked over the WL and thought that it felt too much like a "hotel".

To each his own.......

Oh dear I had doubts about staying at POR for the majority of our stay, Now I am going to change to ASMO. I really like *new* rooms. I am not too bothered about the landscaping. We are staying at a luxury resort for the last part of our trip anyhow, so I probably wont miss POR.
:(

We stayed at POR Bayou bldg. 14 for three nights in Dec. and loved it. No complaints except that checkin took 45 minutes. The resort was very nice except they were getting ready to rehab. the pool. We did not mind as it was a little to chilly for us to swim anyway. If you eat breakfast in Boatwrights, the meals are so large we would split them and my wife would still be unable to finish hers. A good money saving tip I hope...smjj

We stayed at POR Bayou bldg. 14
smjj... did you request Bldg. 14? I've heard they save it for handicapped and disabled. We requested it our last trip but ended up in 15 (which we also enjoyed). ~:D~

The recent POR rehab was outside only (mostly painting).

Building 14 is reserved for guests with special needs, but if there is room available, they will honor requests for 14. I've stayed in 14 twice and it is certainly very convenient to the food court! 15 is convenient too - especially to main bus stop.

As with all resorts, some rooms will be better maintained than others. All of us have read stories about room nightmares from the Grand Floridian to the All Stars. Overall, Disney properties are well maintained and the service is excellent - especially over most hotels in the Orlando area. To those planning on going to POR soon - don't worry. And, should you have a problem, address it right away as these folks did. Disney wants you to be happy!

We were in 14 last May and asked for it this past August, but it was being refurbished..as was two other buildings. They were also replacing all of the beds, and doing deep cleaning on several buildings in the resort in a couple of buildings, although we didnt' see where it needed it. I think it's one of the nicest, and cleanest ones we've stayed in. Our grands prefer all stars, and we are staying in Music this month because the rate was so good..but we'll be back to POR in May, God willing. My husband loves the shade and the wonderful places to stroll around. The parking is great too.

Just to let future guests now- We stayed in Parterre Place in the mansions section over Thanksgiving and it was wonderful! No mold, mildew, spots etc...it was VERY clean. Besides a couple bus mishaps we had a really great stay at the POR.

SusyQue:

Yes we did request this bldg. I guess there were enough empty room to accomdate us. I think if we stay there the next time we may request bldg. 15 or 18. They are almost as close but are a little more sucluded and in the woods more. The bayou section is just like living in the woods..smjj

Also wanted to add my thoughts to those already here. We stayed at POR twice in the last year, both times in the Mansions, and we were perfectly happy. Our first trip we stayed in Acadian House which was beautiful and the second time we were in Oak Manor. Both were very clean and VERY well maintained. The only disapointing thing for us was watching ignorant people throwing their garbage on the ground STEPS from their rooms.

My husband and I are leaving in 8 days to stay at POR. It's our first time with no children. Last few times the kids came with us. This is our first time at POR we have heard it is a wonderful place so we are excited. Hopefully our room will be okay but you know what WE ARE ON VACATION!!!!!!!!!:bounce: :Pinkbounc :jester:
