We're staying at POR, requested the Mansions, for our honeymoon in early Feb. for 7 nights. Any romantic spots in particular to be on the lookout for? From what I've read and seen in pictures it looks like it will have some gorgeous paths... Has anyone done the carriage ride?

Thanks:)

Diswedwish, welcome to the Dis! And congrats on your upcoming honeymoon. I stayed at French Quarter for the first time last month and just fell in love with the place. I loved all of Port Orleans, as a matter of fact, and plan on staying at that resort again in the future.

I was vacationing with my young daughter, so I can't answer the "romantic" part of your question regarding the resort. We did attend Bob Jackson's show in the lounge at the Riverside and we had an absolute ball. He is quite the entertainer and had the kids up on stage and the adults conga'ing through the aisles. If you and your sweetie are looking for something fun to do, I would suggest that.

Here is the link to Dreams Unlimited Travel's "Around the World in 30 Days Tour" webpage regarding the PO-RS resort (formerly called Dixie Landings). And here is their other link regarding Port Orleans - Riverside. The link to streaming video on the second link I gave actually works, so please view it.

My daughter and I took a carriage ride at Fort Wilderness (the one at PO wasn't set up yet). Even though I was with my young daughter, I can definitely tell you that the carriage ride was romantic (it made me really miss my husband). I will definitely take a carriage ride with my husband on our next joint vacation, *sigh.* I don't have many photos (I didn't think to really take any, silly me), but what I do have is found in my on-line photo album: click here to view my FW Carriage Ride photos.

Last year we got AB, a King bed room. It was the first time in about 8 years that "mousekeeping" did anything with the towels. She made lovely little hearts, etc. (like she thought it was our honeymoon). We really liked it.

I've always found the boat ride from POR to be a very enjoyable experience, especially late on a nice evening. It is typically a full boat, and may not be so quiet if you get one of the more "entertaining" skippers, so it might be questionable as to whether it fits the "romantic" category. But my wife and I have always enjoyed it. :earsgirl: :earsboy:

For a more pricey option, I recently read where Disney is now offering a "New Year's Eve" cruise from Port Orleans on some nights. It is a guided cruise that takes guests from Port Orleans down the Sassagoula River and to the main lake near Downtown Disney for a spectacular view of the nightly Pleasure Island New Year's Eve fireworks display.

The cruise departs at 11:30 p.m. The cruise costs $170 for up to four people, and includes sodas and a bottle of champagne. Now that sounds romantic! :teeth:

Congratulations and have a wonderful trip!

You will not believe how romantic this resort is in the evening. I have never stayed in the mansion side of POR, since we have 3 kids so we need to sleep 5, which alligator bayou sleeps, but the mansions are very romantic looking. Anyway, the walkways along the river, wow! Extremely romantic and quiet. There are benches along the way too to rest. You will love this resort!

I stayed at Dixie Landings for my honeymoon in 1998 before going on our Disney Magic cruise. We thought it was great. I don't recall what section we stayed in except that it was on the second floor. We loved the boat to downtown disney and took a round trip cruise without getting off once and we had the boat to ourselves on a nice warm afternoon. It felt very romantic as we strolled around on all the paths. We also rented the double bike which in our case wasn't very romantic but it sure had us laughing non stop. I don't think there was a carriage ride during our stay. We were not on a honeymoon package but we had a different towel animal every day, postcards from Mickey saying Congratulations, Enjoy Your Honeymoon etc. We loved staying there.

This is just my opinion, but I really prefer FQ to Riverside. It is soooo much more intimate and the grounds are beautiful. We stayed at DxL - sorry POR - this past September and we stuck out in the last set of Mansions in timbuktu. Riverside is just too big IMHO. We stayed the first two nights of our honeymoon at FQ back in 2000 and loved it there. We got a HUGE gift basket from the front desk when we checked in - not sure how or why. I've stayed at Riverside twice and really prefer FQ - I just think its more romantic.

I've said it before and I'm in the minority I know, but I offer a different view on the Bob Jackson show - we thought it was loud and obnoxious. We wanted a drink later one night - the pool bar closed (which was a mile away it seemed like) and our only option without walking to Scat Cats was Bob Jackson - we hated it. We prefer to go to PI or BW for that level of playing, we like our resort lounges on the quiet side.

I definitely recommend FQ though. If you want to spluge - I suggest the honeymoon rooms at WL - 4 rooms on the seventh floor - two have MK views. We ended our honeymoon here and LOVED it! Of the suites at WDW these were fairly reasonable, but I'm not sure what the rates are now?

Good luck & Congratulations!

Melissa
