POR - Disney’s Fleabag Motel

Booked a week in mid-October on a recommendation from a co-worker. Fingers crossed these issues are worked out.

OP, did they give you a hard time about your complaints? Or did they offer to move you right away?
Not going to lie, I am not excited about staying here in Oct. Looking every day to see if there is a switch I can make.

The supervisor we dealt with agreed that the rooms we were given were unacceptable. He first offered to move us to another room but when I told him we didn’t want to be at POR at all anymore he agreed to call around and see where the was availability.

For $300 a night those rooms are unacceptable. Heck, I don’t find them acceptable for half that price. OP had a completely valid complaint.

The comparison a PP made between the room’s cleanliness being no worse than their own home is absolutely ridiculous. Some posters on this board will find a way to defend Disney to the death no matter what. It’s a shame.

We had the same experience and of course some people defended Disney. We did get a free stay out of it that I put in front of our Yacht Club Christmas trip this year but I am going back to Port Orleans in a month but French Quarter this time before our Beach Club stay. We like to book a night or 2 before our main stay so we are close to Disney Springs. Here was my report from this July .. https://www.disboards.com/threads/first-and-last-time-we-will-ever-stay-at.3761859/

Thx for posting buildings with issues all.
I will only stay Preferred at POR , and request bldgs 14 or 18. ( honestly have gotten one of them each time thankfully)
We ve not had any problem that’s been mentioned and hope not too for my upcoming visit. I too take no Mousekeeping, as others have mentioned and wonder what impact it is having.
Good luck all!
And where does one find the mgr email for each resort?

I stayed in Alligator bayou in July, and it was refurbed and was clean, I think the Magnolia rooms are being done now so ask for Alligator bayou.

Actually, we were in Alligator Bayou, building 35. So, while it was a supposedly refurbed room, it was filthy. See my comment above.

I mean, I've seen much worse looking toilets in houses that people were trying to sell, so that could be true.

I can't remember which of the buildings we were in, but luckily our room was clean, although a bit dated. I do agree that housekeeping at POR isn't what it should be, though. I had to ask many times to get my sheets changed.

Honestly I think this is part of the problem and I used to be one of those people. Issues at Disney resorts are overlooked so much just because it IS Disney. I have a friend who manages high end resorts all over the world, he took his kids to Disney and stayed at the GF for the week. He was amazed at the shortcuts/lack of attention to detail at a resort of that level, I just remembered him repeating this or that would never fly "in the real world". LOL

Personally I think just accepting it or complaining to friends is doing everyone a disservice including Disney. Make noise and make your dollars talk too, it's the only way to force improvements. Otherwise you get what everyone just accepts. It's a shame and it hurts my heart to book offsite but a $300 run down moderate room compared to some of the other offerings just isn't comparable these days IMO.

Totally agree and your paying 2x that at GF. Like I said it's not just POR but most of WDW resorts. And I am also a firm believer in letting management know when there is an issue, and do not call, you need to speak with the manager face-to-face.

I think it's included in the thanks for visiting or whatever that's in your room. The name's posted on the portorleans.org website.

For ANYONE who has a stay at either PO resort, I wholly recommend checking out portorleans.org. @andrewilley is pretty good at keeping everything updated over there.

Maybe so, but they don't scrub the tub and toilet during daily housekeeping.

They may not scrub it, but they should be checking the tub and toilet during daily housekeeping and cleaning when necessary. Same with surfaces, which should be done daily. It seems like these things aren't done at all, and they are definitely not being done when housekeeping is declined during a stay.

Just returned from a trip and thought I’d put a PSA out about Riverside’s horrible housekeeping situation. We booked three nights at POR for our Galaxy’s Edge preview.

The first room we were assigned was the most disgusting hotel room we’ve ever stepped foot into. Scuffed and scratched walls with paint missing, dried mystery substances on the walls, dried toothpaste on the bathroom mirror, cobwebs on all of the lights. The toilet hadn’t been cleaned in weeks. And the piece de resistance, the door was so warped there was a 1/2” gap all around it. Went to front desk, they said they’d move us. Waited three hours before we got into our second room, which wasn’t much better.

Random hairs stuck to things, the bathroom light was falling out of the ceiling, the shampoo dispensers were broken and rusty, a broken light fixture over one of the beds, mold on the shower curtain rings, dried brown substance on the wall around the toilet paper holder.

Eventually we complained and were moved to another resort for our last two nights but we can’t unsee what condition these rooms were in.

Went looking to see if anyone else had this issue and found others on the boards talking about it too. Seems like this wasn’t out of the norm for Riverside. They have a serious housekeeping issue. I’ve attached the pictures I managed to snap before I was too grossed out to continue.

We’ve stayed at value, moderate and deluxe resorts and have never seen this level of filth and disrepair. If you are thinking of booking or currently booked at POR I would strongly suggest you rethink.

it stinks that happened but we've stayed at POR several times and never had a room look like that or anywhere on WDW property for that matter. While I find the toilet and hair situation gross and that definitely falls on housekeeping, but the rest sounds like wear and tear on the rooms but as PP have mentioned, that's all refurb related but knowing your first room stunk, they should have done their best to get you in a newly reno'ed room but that's not always easy.

Did you contact the property GM? What resort were you moved to??

Honestly, I don't care if it's wear and tear. I don't care if it's from careless guests or that they let guests opt of our housekeeping. A room in that condition should've never been available to guests. If it looks like that, they waited too long to refurbish and need to not have them in inventory until it's fixed. I moved to a different resort. I had a royal room and since those haven't been done, I'm not dealing with worrying if it's going to be nice or not. They charge too much to put people in rooms that look like an old motel 6.

We stayed there in May in building 28, I believe. it was one of the refurb'd rooms. It was clean and we had none of these issues.

This is to be expected when they allow DOGS to stay in the rooms!

Are you kidding?

This has zero to do with any of the problems we had. Dogs did not cause a dirty toilet, hair left in the tub, stained counters, a coffee pot COVERED in dust, with an old used coffee pod in it along with old coffee in the pot. A dog didn't cause the baseboards to be filthy and a dog didn't cause tile grout to be grungy.

What a ridiculous comment and part of the reason Disney isn't held accountable for their faults. DISNEY is the one responsible for their properties. DISNEY is responsible for the maintenance and cleanliness of a room before they accept money for someone to stay in it. If they can not repair/clean a room then it shouldn't be rented out until they can. Period.
