Just returned from a trip and thought I’d put a PSA out about Riverside’s horrible housekeeping situation. We booked three nights at POR for our Galaxy’s Edge preview.

The first room we were assigned was the most disgusting hotel room we’ve ever stepped foot into. Scuffed and scratched walls with paint missing, dried mystery substances on the walls, dried toothpaste on the bathroom mirror, cobwebs on all of the lights. The toilet hadn’t been cleaned in weeks. And the piece de resistance, the door was so warped there was a 1/2” gap all around it. Went to front desk, they said they’d move us. Waited three hours before we got into our second room, which wasn’t much better.

Random hairs stuck to things, the bathroom light was falling out of the ceiling, the shampoo dispensers were broken and rusty, a broken light fixture over one of the beds, mold on the shower curtain rings, dried brown substance on the wall around the toilet paper holder.

Eventually we complained and were moved to another resort for our last two nights but we can’t unsee what condition these rooms were in.

Went looking to see if anyone else had this issue and found others on the boards talking about it too. Seems like this wasn’t out of the norm for Riverside. They have a serious housekeeping issue. I’ve attached the pictures I managed to snap before I was too grossed out to continue.

We’ve stayed at value, moderate and deluxe resorts and have never seen this level of filth and disrepair. If you are thinking of booking or currently booked at POR I would strongly suggest you rethink.

The toilet rests solely on housekeeping.
The others, I'm more appalled that a guest can treat a room like that because bangs and scratches on walls are from them most of the time. It's not like they can repaint between each guest. You can always tell when a resort is ready for refurb.

I agree that most of these are maintenance/refurb issues and I get that Disney has their schedule, but honestly, this amount of wear-and-tear has gone beyond what they should allow. For what people pay at Disney, I do expect it not to get that far before refurb. Those pics look awful.

I’m see more than just stains in the toilet bowl. I see cobwebs on the light fixture and hair clinging to the underside of the toilet. The toiletry dispenser appears to not have been wiped down. The metal is covered in watermarks and smears while the conditioner is oozing slightly. All of those show a decided lack of attention by housekeeping.

The wall scuffs and chipped paint are wear and tear on a room that is in need of a soft good refurb. But mystery stains and mold are not maintenance related.

Those pictures are disgusting, OP. I completely sympathize with your complaints. I highly recommend contacting the resort manager about your dissatisfaction, complete with pictures and room numbers. The name and contact information should have been in the room.

That's extremely disappointing. I agree with pp that you should definitely contact disney and let them know of your experience.

I’ll agree that housekeeping is subpar. We stayed last summer and there were fingerprints on the mirror from a prior guest that remained our whole stay. There were crumbs under the table from a prior guest that remained our whole stay. And there was a shiny gold star glitter piece, about the size of a penny, on the carpet from a prior guest that was right in the entry way when you walked in. I left it there assuming they’d pick it up with the vacuum the next morning but that remained the whole time too. So that tells me they are doing the bare minimum between guests and even less during a guest’s stay. Seemed like just making the bed and replacing the towels because wiping of mirrors, surfaces, and vacuums never took place.

ETA: Our room was also in Acadian House, like OP. Although I doubt the issue is confined to one building.

That is appalling! No way I’d stay somewhere like that, much less for Disney prices!!
We stayed at pop after a refurb last year, and in GDT this year, and they were both amazing. I think my new way of choosing a resort will be how new or newly refurbished it is.
Those pics are SO gross!

Ridiculous. We had trouble there 4 years ago and swore never to return. I've seen at least one other recent thread about this.

This is unacceptable, especially for what they have the audacity to charge per night.

If a room is that bad, take it out of the rotation. Someone should be inspecting these rooms. It's a housekeeping and maintenance issue. I would have been livid.

Somebody should be inspecting these rooms- housekeeping! Every day when they go to clean. And they should have the authority to report anything that isn’t right to their manager who should pass it on to the appropriate person.

I'm waiting for someone to defend Disney on this one by saying housekeeping doesn't have authority to report damage to rooms. :sad2:

I’m curious of the building number for this room. Mansion? AB? Preferred? I do see a refurb is definitely in order and Overall I think the room is quite dirty. Those are two separate issues. Each needs to be addressed.
I would definitely contact disney mgmnt with pix, room location/number and dates on sight, along with your total dissatisfaction of your “ home away from home”.
I have chosen POR ( preferred) my next visit, and I won’t change it, but Will be more conscious of checking things out and dealing with it, if needed.
Thanks for sharing your experience OP.
I think one of the worst things for Any establishment is a negative Social Media Posting with Pix proof calling them out. Let’s hope they respond.
POR has been our home since Dixie Landings days.. this is just plain Ol Sad!

Thanks for posting. We are booked at POR for a visit; haven't stayed there before. Disappointing, and no alternatives are currently available even remotely affordable for me. I'll keep checking.

Just had the same experience. And I 1000% agree POR has a serious housekeeping and maintenance issue.

We stayed at POR in the mansions last year due to a great promotion we received. The room was tired and in need of refurb, but clean. Due to the same promotion, we decided to stay in the Bayou earlier in August because those rooms supposedly have been refurbished. To put it bluntly, our room was disgusting when we arrived after a long day in Epcot (checked in when we arrived at WDW in the morning, went to the park and returned in the evening).

There was hair all over the sinks, counters, and tub. The toilet clearly had not been cleaned. There were stains on the bathroom wall around the toilet and stains on the bathroom door. Dirty bath mat. Folded towels under the sink that had dirt and leaves folded into them. There was dust on every surface in the bedroom area (table, shelves, nightstand etc.). The table also had a sticky substance on it. Dirty sheets on one of the beds. Crumbs under the bed. Security lock on door broken. I called the front desk and asked to be moved. They said there “weren’t any rooms available,” offered us $75 and to have a housekeeper come up. At this point, it was 10:00. I should have gone to the desk and insisted to be moved, but we were exhausted.

The housekeeper who came to the room was very kind. She cleaned everything thoroughly and changed the sheets. After my son and husband fell asleep, I was still so upset that I emailed the POR general manager. It was the first time I ever cried at the beginning of a Disney trip.

To his credit, the manager called me the next day when we were in the MK. He apologized and asked what he could do to make it right for us. I said all I wanted was a clean room. He had someone come and do a deep cleaning for us while we were out and had a manager verify the room was clean. It was spotless when we returned that night, but I still wiped down everything with Clorox wipes because I couldn’t get the room’s original condition out of my mind’s eye. We also declined housekeeping for the rest of our trip as I didn’t want them anywhere near our room again.

I should also mention that bags of dirty towels and garbage were left outside rooms overnight. These were clearly housekeeping bags. We saw this when walking back to our room in the evening on several occasions.

In over 15 years of Disney trips staying in several different resorts (WL, BC and POFQ), this is the first time we’ve ever encountered anything like POR. We won’t ever return to POR. The promotion was nice, but I would rather have paid 10 times as much to avoid that experience. A clean room is ALWAYS a requirement, regardless of cost. We will return to POFQ and WL next year, which we adore. I hope people keep complaining about this as something desperately needs to change at POR.
