If we booked 1 King room & 1 Preferred room for our family at POR, would we have a decent shot at getting adjoining or connecting rooms, or at least rooms in close proximity to each other? Would linked reservations be enough or would we have to make a request on our reservation?

TIA!

You have a shot at it, but there is no way to know if you will get them ahead of time. Have your reservations linked, and have it noted that you would like connecting rooms. And keep your fingers crossed.

Since preferred rooms are all in specific buildings (ie there are NO non-preferred rooms in those buildings), wouldn't you have to reserve 2 preferred rooms and request that one be a king room and also put in a request that they be adjoining or connecting?

I don't think that you can reserve a non preferred and a preferred room and expect them to be even in the same building.

The website said in order to get a king in ANY category I have to book a King. So that's why I was wondering. I would book a preferred King if it were an option. You have to pay a premium to get a King room so its not like I'm asking for a free upgrade to a preferred room.

I wasn't suggesting that you were trying for a free upgrade at all. Just that all of the preferred rooms were together in their own buildings. If being in adjoining rooms, getting a king, and having the other as a preferred are all important for you, then it might be tricky.

Since you can't book a preferred king room, you have to decide which has priority- the preferred location or the king bed. You can book a preferred room and request a king bed and adjoining rooms with the other preferred room. Or you can book a king room and ask for a preferred room and adjoining. I think your odds might be better with the first option, but no one could say for sure. It might be better to call and discuss all of this with a CM, rather than doing the booking online.
