POR advice?

They were completing the last two buildings in AB last week. All the buildings are now done.

After reading this thread and because there is not availability at CBR (as of right now) for our time frame, we have decided to make the switch to POR!! While reading this thread I really couldn't find anything negative about this resort, I'm really impressed. :goodvibes

We love PORS... It's spacious, beautiful with a sit-down restaurant, food court, pools, etc. It's great! We stayed in the mansions... kids might think the bayou is more fun. A room near the bridge is good... closer to the foodcourt/restaurant.
Enjoy!

Princessknb,
That is exactly our situation. We tried to get CBR (June 2-10) in a pkg. with pin (we cancelled our room-only for that time at CBR to get it) and there were NO available rooms. Why is that, do you think? CBR is not one of the more popular resorts although we love it. (I've called 7-8X to ck. availability)

So, POR was available and we took it to save money. It sounds nice, though.

Have something lime green and I'll look for you!

Sorry, I forgot that I had a question b/c I was so excited to see someone else at POR at the same time that I will be there.

Anyway, where does the boat from POR drop you off at DD?

LSUDis,
Guess what, my agent was able to get us the CBR (i guess it's a matter of timing). I still think the POR is a nice resort after reading comments on a lot of other websites also. :cool1: :cool1:

The boat drops you off just a few steps away from the Rainforest Cafe. It's in the Marketplace section. You'll love POR and the boat ride! Have fun :goodvibes

my family and i went to port orleans in january 2004 we stayed in building 14 which is really great as you are near to reception and dining hall, and the bus stop if you are going to use it is just around the corner.and we liked it so much we are going back in august 2005 and have asked for the same building.

Thanks again everyone! This is great advice and I am so excited about this resort. I hope I don't have trouble getting around this place with two small children, but knowing all I have learned from this thread should really help out.

Is it best to call CRO or the resort to try to put in room "requests" for this place (such as I want to be near the main pool and main building, etc.)?

Based on what I just read about the CRO and the problems they are having, I would call the resort directly. I think that's what is recommended anyway. I hope because that's what I've been planning to do.

We were going to stay only 4 nights at POR then 6 nights at the POLY, but after reading so many good things about this resort and reading quite a bit of disappointing remarks on the POLY we didn't think all the extra expense of the POLY would be worth it. So, we changed to all 10 nights at Riverside and so glad we did. Just can't wait to get to that Florida sunshine! :sunny: This PA weather is just too cold, snowy and dreary! :cold: :sad2:

Have a great time at POR everyone! :wave2:

:teeth: Your post has made my day! Long story, but I have been debating moving our res from POR to Poly because we have an option to spend some free nights in a friends condo. We would have to cut our on-site stay to fewer days in order to move to Poly but we have 5 plus an infant so we have to choose POR or Poly. EVERYTHING i've heard about POR is fantastic but I began to fall under the Poly spell after reading so many posts about it :faint:
After reading this thread I am soooooooo excited about our choice and I am keeping us at the POR! Thanks! :wave2:

Hi again! I know many people LOVE the poly, but I stayed there a couple of years back and we really did not care for it. The convenience with the monorail was great, but otherwise, for the extra money we had to pay, I didn't think it was worth it. That is why we have switched to the mods (plus my DS is scared of the monorail  ) and enjoy them.

This will be my first PO stay though, so I too am glad to hear such nice things.

:teeth: Another confirmation for my decision. This board helps so much. I think the people who go to DW without it are like  ya know?

So the renovations at the POR is all done now? Anyone been there recently that can confirm this?

This board has been so helpful in this thread, thanks to all! :wave2:

Hi ktink: Yes, there are waterview rooms in both sections. Just 2 weeks ago we had a waterview room in the mansion section. Our room faced one of the quiet pools. We were just a stones throw from it. Some of the rooms in the mansions face the river while others face the pools. Either way, you won't be disappointed. POR is beautiful! :sunny:

Thanks for the reply, sorry I post so much I forget where to look :confused3 At first I thought I would be set on a mansion room but the AB looks nice too so I think I'm just going to play it out and see what we get rather than make a request. This thread just makes me want to :Pinkbounc

We are staying at POR for the first in May. I have decided not to make a room request, that way if it cannot be met, I won't be disappointed. I hope this new philospohy works ... I usually want to plan as much as possible

Feel free to pm me if you have any questions that have not been answered for you - as you can see from my signature, I have been to this resort numerous times and absolutely love it!!

I made the switch from POP to CBR to POR!!! I just have to try this resort because I have read so many positive reports!!! :goodvibes :cool1:

I can say that POR is our favorite resort and we love the alligator bayou section. That section has the safes in the rooms, plus it is just anicer walk with all the wildlife. We usually request building 14. It is close to the lobby/food court and also to the quite pool and not but a hop , skip and jump from the theme pool. My kids prefer the quiet pool, less people usually there to bother them I guess.

POR is a great resort for people who have kids. The food court is very acomadating to different tastes....with my three picky eaters, we can always find something they like...and not always the same thing everyday!!

The resort shop is very nice as well, that is actually one of my husbands favorite shops. They have a guy that we have only taken the time to see once (last year) who plays the piano in the lounge. He is great and needless to say we will be making plans to see him while there this year. We are booked to go in June as well.

We tried to talk my girls into staying at the CB this year but they put up a fight to stay at POR, we still called and checked on CB, but they can only allow us there if we get two rooms...4 people to a room. We also considered Poly, but with the $$ we save, we thought we could do more character meals, etc.

Anyway, I think that the POR is one of the best MOD resorts!!! We tried the CS one year....we stayed one night and transferred back to the POR (then it was still Dixie). We did not like the llllooonnnggg walk from the room to the lobby/food court...we did not like that the food court was more expensive than the rest of the MOD's (This is probably because, as we later learned, it was the only non-disney owned food court in Disney!). And there was not a lick of shade anywhere on the property (which I know goes with the theme) but one of my daughters and myself are very fair and turn into flames when the sun hits our skin  , this resort was not for us. We have stayed at POR ever since.

Good luck and I hope oyu enjoy your stay at the POR!!

Hello, I am trying out a new hotel that I know NOTHING about on my visit in June. I am taking (at least my two older kids, ages 5 and 7) and possibly my mom, staying at the Port Orleans Riverside resort.

I have never been there, and am looking for advice on getting around, good things to eat, the pool, best rooms, what to expect, etc.

I just like to be prepared as much as possible and am hoping to get the good, bad and ugly from people who have been there. Thanks! :wave2:
I'm going to the POR and I absolutely love it. It's rated the best Moderate resort, some even wondering why it isn't considered a deluxe resorts. I've stayed at many resorts at Disney but I love the POR the most. You're going to have a great time!

The pool is a very nice one with a waterslide and waterfall, with a bar really close to it. There is more than one pool. There is also a food court that is so amazing. There is so much variety that you can't eat everything in one trip!

You should LOVE the POR. Have fun!

Thanks again everyone for all the POR advice! We are really excited! I still cannot decide (since I am now for sure travelling alone with my two little ones) whether or not I should try to request a bldg, but since I have heard so much nice things about this resort, it sounds like there are no bad rooms..... :cool1:
