Although this isn't the official SSA list, I just found this listing of the most popular baby names for 2007. I must say, I'm glad that for the first time in years not a single name on either top 10 list is anything that I would even consider naming my children. Perhaps now is the time to get conceiving (while the names I like aren't popular). Any thoughts on this year's leaders of the pack?

I've liked the name Olivia for years, before I even thought about trying to have kids. When DD was born at the end of 2006, we didn't consider it because it was too popular. I was a little irritated that it was so popular now. We went with something that wasn't even in the top 1000 instead (or maybe it was like 956th or something)!

I like a lot of those names. I'm surprised that the boy's list hasn't remained more traditional. Those names always seem to get passed down.

Kayden, Hayden, Jayden are the top names here. There are classes at the elementary school with several Kaydens per grade. The other two are a close second.

I looked at the most popular name lists to make sure the names I picked weren't on them! There are a number of names on the lists I do like. Overall, I tend to like classic names.

I've always liked unusual (but established) names. The only ones I really like on that list are Emma and Jack. I only truly dislike five of them (which I won't list, so as not to offend).

The list is somewhat surprising in that many of the names were almost unheard of 10 years ago. But I like that! I should say that my name was very popular the year I was born, as there were usually several girls in my class with the same name. I hated it!

I know little girls with most of the names listed, and a handful of the boys' names.

When I was naming my boys, I looked for names that were not unusual enough to get them beat up on the playground, but not trendy and really popular, either. As it turned out, each name appeared in the Top 20 for the year of that son's birth. So I'm relieved to see neither in this year's Top Ten! :rotfl:

I love a few of the top names, Sophia (Sophie) and Isabella (Bella) coming in tops! Beautiful!

I really don't like any of them. Maybe it's a good thing I'm past child-bearing age. I've always liked Sara and Stephanie and Stephen. I must have a thing for S. My DH hates Stephen. My sister named both her kids starting with a J. Oh well.....:rolleyes1

I have an Olivia and a Isabel - they weren't popular when I picked them out when they were born...but there sure is a lot of little Olivia's and Isabels now :)

I can relate-Neither of my girls names were that popular when they were born. My Sophie is 9, and my Mady who is 12. Her name is Madylin, not Madison, but everyone assumes it's Madison, when they hear her nickname.

The list makes sense to me. I don't think I know any Jaydens, but other than that all those names are very very common around here.

Thats about what I would expect too. I hear Aiden ALL the time around here. And know kids (in some cases several) with each of those names.

I feel bad for my sister who had an extremely popular name growing up and swore she'd never do that to her kid. Her infant ds name made the list, and her top girl name is #1.

Of course, when we brought home our youngest son this year, we chose a name barely even on any list (Micah) and now I know 4, and seem to hear it everywhere.

About a year and a half ago I was just thinking that if I ever had a boy I would love to name him Kaden. I thought I came up with it on my own and was so clever. I had never heard the name before. Well, exactly 2 days later I enrolled my dd in her daycare and the owner's son's name was Kaden (same age as my dd). A few weeks later I met another Kaden. Now it's everywhere. Glad it became popular BEFORE we decided to try for another baby.

Of course my dd's name (Kylie) was practically unheard of around here until she was born. Now I know of 3 others that are around the same age as her. I guess we all had the same idea in 2005. She is the only one that spells it the way she does though so I guess there's that. I don't regret her name though.

I am not sure what we will name our next baby. We won't even know what it is till the first week in Feb. (granting baby cooperates) so we have time. I do like knowing what is popular and what isn't to help me narrow down names. I used to really like Olivia but it's too popular right now. I know at least one child for almost every one of those names on that list.

 When we looked at Sophia for our girls name it was popular but not the top one! I really like it, but I liked Emma too and that was #1 last year, so we didn't use it. Sophia was in the 20s I think. Oh well. At least our last name is unusual.

My almost 11 year old son is Jack... when we named him I only knew little old men named Jack... no kids... now there are TONS of them. Our dog is Madeleine (aka Maddy) because we couldn't name Jack that... for obvious reasons.

I work in a Pediatric office and we have lots of patients with the names on those lists.

I have an Isabella born in 2004.. I didnt realize it was even that popular.. I got it from a Soap Opera and when I heard it I was like thats it!!!! than and they fact that we call her Belle.

Yikes.. when we were expending out 4th in 2005 Sophia and Olivia were on my list .. Along with Athena and Ivy.

I am glad I had a boy lol

For the boys list there is not one there I would use

I know someone who has a daughter named Micah.

Wow, out of 5 kids, only one made the list (Jack), but he's actually John, and we call him Jack - I don't like using nicknames as formal names.

My Jack is really Jonathan and I wish we had just named him Jack... it really fits him.
